Hey Guys!
Many of you may have heard about the Backbeat Jazzfest Series by now - but we've added NEW ARTISTS so take another look! :: 20+ evening shows presented by Backbeat Presents at four of the top venues in New Orleans. This year Backbeat is partnering with the Louisiana Campaign For Tobacco Free Living to make all shows as part of the series SMOKE FREE!

A few highlights of this year's stellar lineup include Dirty Dozen Brass Band featuring Booker T with Hill Country Revue; Big Sam’s Funky Nation, (Grammy Award Winners) Grupo Fantasma, Soul Rebels Brass Band and Brownout!; Tim Reynolds & TR3 w/ On The One; Ghostland Observatory w/ special guest tba; Cyril Neville (Album Release Party) with Tab Benoit & Jumpin Johnny Sansone PLUS The Wild Magnolias with Big Chief Bo Dollis and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux; Soulive with the Shady Horns & special guest Nigel Hall + Benevento/Russo Duo with special guests; Medeski, Martin & Wood with DJ Logic; Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue (late night); Toubab Krewe; Marco Benevento Trio / Bustle In Your Hedgerow, and many many more!
Check www.backbeatpresents.com for the full lineup and ticketing info - and if you're on Facebook and would like to get in on our up to date announcements, additions and friendly banter, click the below link and become a group member of the 4th Annual Backbeat Jazzfest Series.
Backbeat Presents will present shows at The Studio At Colton Theater for the first time. The Studio At Colton at 2300 St. Claude Avenue, is a post-Katrina grass-roots conversion project of an old public school. Through the sweat of the residents, classrooms have been renovated into artist studios space and there is public assembly space including a 1000 capacity theater with a large built-in stage. It has a large open space in front of the stage and some theatre style seating toward the back. The Prospect 1 International Art Biennial featured some events and exhibits there and it is where Krewe du Vieux held their Mardi Gras Ball this year. It is located on the burgeoning St. Claude arts corridor that has generated a good bit of development interest from the artistic and real estate communities. It is walking distance from famed Frenchmen Street and on a major bus line (and 1 block from the Hi-Ho Lounge).
All Show are 18 to enter 21+ to drink and are non-smoking!
Here's the lineup with links for more information and tickets. If you're heading down to Jazz Fest this year and are looking for night shows to hit, it is DEFINITELY worth your attention!
Initial Lineup of the 4th Annual Backbeat Jazzfest Concert Series
And Meg you and Boz ARE gonna make it for at least a day...we'll figure that out next weekend when I come down.....
ya know - we never did get a chance to talk about this
I might go for one weekend to ease the pain of not going to Roo. I think we may go on the Wilco day. My friend lives in NOLA and I have been promising her a visit.
Except if you want a drink...the bartenders are ridiculously slow and discriminating!
Well...smoke free is all fine and good....since i don't smoke...but...
Slow and discriminating bartenders? In NOLA?? Ummm...I think I'll take braving the smoke thanks! LOL! I need my drinks in a reasonable timely and decent fashion more than I need a total smoke free venue....feed me good strong drinks and I can deal with most anything else!
I'm liking this...except I have a 7:20 am flight the next morning:
Sun. May 3 Ropeadope 10th Anniversary Party! $20/10pm Marco Benevento Trio and Bustle In Your Hedgerow: Marco Benevento, Joe (Downstairs) Russo, Dave Driewitz (Ween), Scott Metzger (Rana) Performing the Music of Led Zeppelin
this is now the finalized lineup, and there are tons of additions. it's a pretty awesome blend of New Orleans funk and some new school jambands. should be TONS of fun, so check it out!
