Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
If you don't want to pay the price, then apply as a volunteer and you'll get your money back at the end of the fest. Plus you'll get fed and be treated better. Its what I did!
Do they have veg food and showers?
Just askin' - need to keep my options open this year....
Cheapest ticket for Metallica's next show (12/12, Ontario, CA): $57.50 plus taxes and fees Cheapest ticket for Widespread Panic's next show (12/30, Denver, CO): $61.00 plus Cheapest ticket for Phil Lesh's next show (12/30, San Francisco, CA): $45.00 plus Cheapest ticket for My Morning Jacket's next show (12/27, Chicago, IL): $35 plus Cheapest ticket for BB King's next "normal" show - he has an upcoming show for $150 a ticket that must be bought in 4, 5 or 6 seat sections - (12/27, Los Angeles, CA): $56.50 plus
(Pearl Jam, Jack Johnson, Robert Plant/Alison Krauss and many other "top billers" have no currently scheduled shows so I can't check them.)
My point is, that's $255 with just as small sampling of artists. It's hard to say that the prices arent' comparable, either, since all of these artists had significantly long time slots similar to a solo headling slot. (Quibble about Lesh if you choose but he did play two slots.)
By my (okay, Wikipedia's) count, I show 79 artists performed in 2004 (back before Roo was a "scam") at $164.50* versus 146 artists in 2008 at $209*. (* Using troo's figures above.) This figures as $2.08 per artist in '04 versus $1.43 per artist in '08. It sounds like they are actually providing a better value now, from a strictly numbers perspective.

Yes, staff camping supposedly has free showers. As for the food, some items aren't necessarily "veg", they just don't contain meat. Also, they provided me with two meal tokens last year. The tokens allowed me to purchase food from designated vendors around the fest.

One thing that seems to be forgotten but has been stated by Farman in previous press releases is that VIP ticket cost is used to offset GA ticket prices. The larger than normal increase in VIP cost this year is being used to keep GA prices stable and allow more budget minded 'Rooers to still make it out. Business ideas like this show that Bonnaroo as a business is still thinking about their customers and is far from ripping-off or selling out. They are doing creative things to make a profit AND take care of the customers. I wish more business acted this way.
I will admit scam was the wrong word to use that was the ticket shock talking. I will hold to my point. I'm sure someone can find the exact numbers but didn't AC entertainment make a profit of 26 million off Bonnaroo last year? If you want to go, then go. I wouldn't tell anyone not to go. But I buy early bird tickets every year and this year to me seems ridicules. Its not just the prices of tickets but the $10 showers, or the $4 bags of ice. Anyone remember the water situation in 2007 I think? The art of such and such has been there how many years? What happened to the Vendors? Lets all smoke a fatty and ride the same ferris wheel, stand under the same bobble heads, be charged $6 for a 8 oz. beer, and jump out of the way of a hundred golf carts. From where I'm sitting 2 early bird tickets $460 minimum with fees. Last year $303 for 2 early bird tickets. yes sir here's 500 bucks. oh, you'll tell me in a month or two who's going to be there, no problem. Lets hit the batting cage.

Nope, no early birds last year. I still paid less this year than last year.... and I bought my tickets as soon as they went on sale last year, got 2nd tier. I don't recall a water situation in 07. I remember free water, which I will never complain about. I don't even get free water out of my own tap... what was it?
Anyone remember the water situation in 2007 I think?
Not sure I remember any water situation in 2006, 2007, or 2008. Plenty of water - lots of fun - sure there was some dust in 2007 - but it was during a freakin' drought - WTF? I mean what do you expect when the entire region is in drought.
And as for $10 showers - not sure where you were taking showers - last year I only paid $7.00 - sure it is only $3. but that is $3 towards that $4 bag of ice that you had to buy because you did not plan well enough to bring enough or get enough dry ice to keep your regular ice frozen.
I think the point of most of the responses here is this - great - you don't like the price that is being charged - it's pretty simple - DON"T PAY THE PRICE AND DON'T GO! Because I can tell you - with the attitude you have - I would not want to run into you there and have to listen to you bitch about eveything going on around you and how unfair it all is and much of a scam it is that Superfly is out to make money.

really? more of these posts...
its is pretty simple. If you dont like what they offer or how much they are asking you to pay, no one is forcing you. im pretty sure Bonnaroo never made a promise to not increase the price of tickets or to restrict the lineup to only the bands people of past Roo's will enjoy. theres a million other festivals to go to, why bother continuing on about this. Just because you once though Bonnaroo was the best fest, and now all of a sudden it just isnt for you for whatever reason, then move on? i dunno even how to reply to these type posts or why i do. You will either like Bonnaroo enough to go, or you wont. If you do, awesome welcome to these boards. If not, why are you here complaining about why bonnaroo isnt for. Go to the Roth, Bisco, ACL All Good or whatever youre into this summer and talk about THOSE festivals THERE, hell even rip on Roo THERE where other people will agree with you. Its just so pointless to make these threads and aggravating at the same time.
This is weird.... the water in 2007 was so full of sulfur a rotten egg wouldnt touch it. I find it interesting diffrent views seem to be so taboo. Apperently people are not allowed to have an opinion or voice it. I do take offense to the ann coulter refrence ( I am a fellow roo'er). Point is last year's last tier is this year first tier and as long as people are willing to shell out more and more money without knowing what they are paying for companies will continue to up the prices and lower the quality of the product.

Different views aren't taboo. Everyone has different opinions. Don't get upset just because someone, or in this case several, people happen to disagree with you.
Bonnaroo was always about making money. It's always been a business. Personally, I still think it's a good deal for the amount of bands I get to see. They've hardly gone up on their prices. I paid about $275 in 2006, and about $300 the last two years. I don't see how that's racketing the price up that much

I think this year they are going to get rid of the ferris wheel and offer rides in UFO's ;D
I bet that would change his mind
I like this one "I will hold to my point. I'm sure someone can find the exact numbers but didn't AC entertainment make a profit of 26 million off Bonnaroo last year?"
"We've always tried to reflect people's diverse music collections," says Jonathan Mayers, president of Superfly Presents, co-producer of Bonnaroo with A.C. Entertainment. "We don't want to dismiss our core in any way, but . . . as great as Widespread Panic has been to us and has been a really big part of what we've done, we can't have Widespread Panic every single year."
And here's the grosses from 2004 and 2005 from same article...
"Mayers stops short of saying Bonnaroo talent bookers were responding to a jam-band scene that lost some commercial clout during the past two years. Bonnaroo's gross and attendance dipped in 2005, to $13.4 million and 76,049, respectively, from $14.5 million and 90,000 in 2004."
"I don't think that (dip) consciously entered into it," Mayers says. "From a creative standpoint, each year we want to keep our programming fresh."]
[/size]
And here's the grosses from 2006 and 2007 according to Billboard
"Bonnaroo once again sold out at 80,000, but an increase in ticket prices led to a gross in the $17 million range, organizers say. That's up from the $14.7 million gross last year that made Bonnaroo the top-grossing festival in the world, according to Billboard Boxscore."
Those were the easiest numbers I could find without trying too hard. I couldn't find 2008, but I think attendance was much lower in 2008... 65-70,000 maybe? I remember a lot more space.
And I assume they made less in 2002 and 2003 then in later years, but i couldn't find the numbers
Anyways, thought the thread could use a few actual grosses, and the actual articles have a few other interesting pieces of info, take it as you will

Actually, Inforoo is FULL of diverse viewpoints and (mostly : is extremely accepting of them. But....opinions are expressed one way...venting is a totally diff thing. This year's 1st tier tix are EXACTLY the same price as last year's. If there is a difference it is in the service fees, of which, the local community and charities (other than the city/county/fed taxes of course...) get MOST of that. So....it's not exactly lining the pockets of the rich execs here if there is ANY more $$$ there...
And...sulfer SMELLS nasty as Hades like rotten eggs but....has no taste. Not to say that the water didn't taste arse-nasty...but it wasn't the sulfer. It is well water....which is gonna have a LOT more minerals in it than any processed tap water which is probably what you were tasting...NOT the sulfer.

GA tickets cost exactly the same as last year on every tier. If you are going to rant like a douche , at least get your facts straight.
EDIT!!
I spoke with the international union of Jesse's We formally disavow his comments, if indeed his name is Jesse.

I understand that you have your own opinion but I don't understand at all where you are getting these numbers from. I'll say it again: first tier 2008: $209 and first tier 2009: $209.

i just want to pop in and say someting about this. im not even going to roo this year so it doesnt really matter to me but, the difference is, in 2008 tickets were the same price WITH a lineup.
So people this year are expected to pay the same price as last year for first tier without the lineup, basically.
i think that's what is bothering some people, but i could be wrong.
^^^ See, my take on it is that they are giving those of us who have faith in the Bonnaroo brand to lock in first tier prices.
Last year I would have purchased tickets before the line up was announced but there was no opportunity. Instead, I waited until the line up was announced, went online a half hour before tickets went on sale and hit refresh until they opened up -- I still didn't get first tier because of the push even though I had completed my purchase and received my confirmation email by12:09.
If I am willing to show that sort of faith, I like that I am not being forced to compete for the best available price with people who were on the fence and not convinced until they saw a line up. That's clearly what has happened this year since 24 hours later there are still first tiers available.
In addition, if they do not sell out by 12/31 those first tier tickets will still be available for those who need a line up.
Finally, I think that it's pretty solid of them to open up an early-bird option for layaway tickets. Yes, you end up paying more than if you waited but you get to spread your payments over five months and don't have to worry about it selling out on you. A lot of festivals are just concerned with selling tickets and, though I'm sure Superfly/AC is as well, they are doing so in a way which gives most people who are interested a reasonable shot.

I guess my two cents goes as follows...
I have had the opportunity to go to several different multi-day festivals and can honestly say Bonnaroo has to be near the top if not the top in the catagories of value, friendliness, diversity, good vibes and easy access. I realize that times are tough economically and yes, money needs to go a long way. My opinion is this, where else am I gonna go that has this kind of following and is pretty much guaranteed to be the best time of the year for me? I mean it is only December and I am SO counting down the days ALREADY!
I have seen so many bands I would have never seen (MIA, Ghostland Observatory, Mason Jennings, James Butler trio, Hot Tuna, just to name a few from years past) or possibly even heard of. I have nothing against people who choose to go somewhere else. Austin City Limits, Rothbury, Lollap....there are a lot of great festivals. I look at the people up here and the passion they are displaying already before a lineup is even announced and I wonder...how can you NOT wanna hang out with these people and enjoy great music in beautiful Manchester?

Your assumption about bigger profits may be a bit misplaced. I buy VIP and this is a big jump. I'm kinda glad they gave up on the food. It had become a big hassle anyway. GA seems very reasonable for a four day music festival. Profits are a factor of revenue vs. expense. With the mortgage on the farm they just bought and the general state of the economy I'd say they are going to be stretched just like everyone else. Music festivals all over the country are going to take a hit. I do hope they get headliners more to my liking this year.
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
