Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
On a side note, DMB has been all over the boards as a big ROO rumor. If Phish does play, there's no way they will be there. I could see them headlining an ailing Rothbury or possibly even an Allgood or Wakarusa.
"But the festival is going to sell out one way or another. They don't need to do anything more to sell tickets, they know they have a sell-out on their hands. "
It didn't sell out last year, not even close. Now we're looking at a severe economic downturn in 2009, and it would seem that from a business standpoint, you would need something to spur ticket sales.
Metallica headlined last year. Phish will be headlining next year.
BIG Difference.
Bonnaroo didn't sell-out last year because a lot of the regulars jumped ship for Rothbury. With Phish at roo all those people will come back. I guarantee a sell-out.
you guys are gunna hate me but im not a huge phish fan. And this sounds exactly like the zeplin rumors. Lets shoot for seger, dmb, mmj, kol, oar... bad fish would be sick too. let me know what you guys think.
This is very very different from the Zeppelin rumors. I take it you haven't really followed this as closely as some of us have.

Furthermore, the festival actually did come close to selling out. Last count I head was over 70,000, which means they only fell 10,000 short. You think Phish can't cover that ground?
"Severe economic downturn" is speculatory at best. I'm not suggesting that, by any means, things will get a whole lot better. But saying "severe economic downturn suggests that we are enjoying some kind of prosperity. We aren't. We have been in a recession for over a year. Many attribute the lacking ticket sales from last year to the economy. For a lot of people, the price of gas was a big obstacle (it was for my parents, who decided no to go, after calculating the cost of driving an RV 13 hours each way). However, the gas bubble burst. Even bullish projections have us paying less than 2 dollars a gallon for gas around Bonnaroo time. Last year, it was double that. I would argue that, although it is still 6 months away, the economy (mainly due to the price of gas) is no more of (if not less of) an obstacle this coming year than it was last year.
Plus, everyone knows that recessions don't affect hippies.
This is just conjecture. Last year Rothbury did hurt Bonnaroo. How much is debatable but it certainly got Superfly/AC's attention. With Rothbury in limbo at this time, it seems that the Phish/Boss leak might be timed to KO Rothbury. Like I said it just a theory.

Interesting suggestion. As I mentioned before, I don't think Superfly leaked it, for the reasons I outlined.
But you are right about Rothbury - this might be the knock-out punch. From what I've heard, everything went on hold over there last week. Perhaps they got word of Phish at Bonnaroo, and decided it wasn't worth the effort, because their target audience will be locked in for roo.
Yeah it looks like, if the leak is real, it came from the Phish camp. That doesn't mean Suprerfly didn't encourage it.
I've always believed that they do encourage bands(like Zac Brown) to put Bonnaroo on their webpages' and Myspaces' for a day or two before removing them, in order to build buzz.
Some of you people need to pay respect where its due. Phish is the reason festivals like Bonnaroo exist. Believe me I enjoyed the festival much more when Kanye West wasn't involved with it. With the exclusion of Radiohead and Tool I have found most of these "diverse" headliners over the last few years to be boring and uneventful. Forgive me, but it was "our" fest before a good number of you even knew it existed. A ton of bad shit has come with Bonnaroo's more "expansive" direction. I'm not saying Phish crowds aren't sketchy, but most of them know how to do a fest properly and handle their shit. Many of the people attracted to Bonnaroo's recent line ups seem to be incapable of doing this. The whole atmosphere has sucked the last couple years. You homos can go listen to Belle and Sebastian or whatever while Trey is melting faces and Cactus is pwn'ing souls.
You guys really don't get it. Seriously. Pay respect where it is due.

If Rothbury is on hold, it's because of the land issues, not because of competition
^I doubt that they would play Roth even if it was on for sure. It is to small a venue.
At least Trey and Mike (not certain about the others) are personal friends with the VP in charge of booking Rothbury. Trey made it a point to have Rothbury be his first show back last year (seriously. it was complicated and he made it happen).
So, if Rothbury happens, and if Phish really is playing festivals, they will play Rothbury. There are definitely some "ifs" there though.
ps. Rothbury was small last year, but they have plenty of room to expand and were already planning on doing that to some extent this year

i had to log on just to smite you. there are better words to express your opinion.

Oh, they're FRIENDS. Well, hell, OFCOURSE they are going to play at Rothbury.
There are a hell of a lot more IFS concerning Phish playing Rothbury. Sorta like when you were claiming that Phish would not play Bonnaroo but they would play Rothbury. Now they can't even get a land issue resolved and you think that they can go from less than half capacity as Bonnaroo to expand enough to have Phish at their festival.

I don't understand why people care about this little number that is called karma. It doesn't bother me either way.
I guess it just gives the rest of us an indication of whether you are a Summers breeze in a sack or not.
When I first got here this was a place to get information about Bonnaroo. Now it's mostly a place for dumbasses to say dumbass stuff. This place has really jumped the shark the last few years.

I think thats because you started posting more. I see a direct correlation.

well gee - that is the pot calling the kettle black
and - I had no idea that people actually used the phrase "jumped the shark" Guess I must be out of touch with the younger crowd - LOL

What a joke.
You're from failHIO so that explains everything.
Dude. Don't talk down to me.
Folks here don't know a lot about Rothbury, and I happen to, so I'm sharing my info.

Musical festivals like Bonnaroo existed long before Phish did, and will continue to exist long afterwards. While the style of Phish festivals probably did provide some inspiration for Bonnaroo, I think it's highly speculative at best to claim that Phish is the reason festivals like Bonnaroo exist.
Who decided that it was "your" fest, anyway? What gives you and yours the exclusive right to enjoy Bonnaroo and not anyone else outside your subculture? Last I checked, you don't own the farm, you don't own Superfly, and any member of the general public can buy a ticket if they want. I won't deny that there has been a shift towards the mainstream over the last few years, but if you're too narrow-minded to enjoy the non-jam bands, that's your problem. Maybe the reason for the change in atmosphere over the last few years isn't due to a more diverse lineup attracting a wider audience, but because of the air that elitist snobs such as yourself carry around, constantly criticizing anyone who is not in your little circle.
And please, explain to me what I "don't get", because I'm really not sure.
Your homophobic slurs show that you are clearly incapable of formulating a solid argument without resulting to personal attacks on others. And for the record, I would take a Belle + Sebastian show any day of the week over a Phish show. I give Phish lots of credit for rocking out for a quarter century and helping to reinvent the jam band scene during the 90's. Just because I'm not a fan, that doesn't mean I don't recognize their achievements. But that's just me - I don't go around calling other people "homos" because they prefer something else.
So, in conclusion - get the quack over yourself, dude!
^Clarity I am not trying to talk down to you, however I do feel that if Phish plays festivals Rothbury would not be on the list for all the reasons you have brought up that Phish would not play a festival. Whether or not you like Bonnaroo they have a proven track record for handling a 80,000 plus rowdy crowd. This would Be Rothburys second year, and if they had Phish they would easily be double the size of last year, plus you would get gatecrashers galore. I don't actually think they would want that for a second year festival but I could be wrong. I just do not think there is another festival in the US that could handle what Phish would bring.
I maybe shouldn't have been a wiseass to the guspatrick earlier, but he made a smart remark first. Bonnaroo is in my backyard, and I still love it and always will even when I go to other festivals.
Also technically the model that most of these festivals follow is very close to say three nights of The Dead at Deer Creek which was happening before anyone had ever heard of Phish.
