I am really skeptical of posts that are like, "My friend said such and such" or whatever...I know it gets me smited, but I just refuse to believe it until I hear it from the horse's mouth...
Ditto.
If nothing else the 45 fake phish "tour schedules" based on the same sourcing that all turned out to be bogus ought to drive that point home.
I'm getting [glow=red,2,300]so[/glow] souped for this tour....
"When Phish steps to the stage late-night at Bonnaroo on June 12 and 13th in front of 80,000 people, what do you think will be the result? Monster-sized Phish of the likes we may never have seen before. With a musical message to send to a generation that largely missed them, and a diverse audience that will not automatically love what they hear, Phish will crush these shows like none other. With two nights of gargantuan grooves, I can guarantee you it’ll be worth it musically. I keep trying to convince myself that I should skip it and side-step the unbelievable hassle and nonsense I will have to deal with to attend the ‘Roo, but the thought of what will happen there is drawing me in. With the industry and the audience in the palm of their hands, you know Phish will step to bat and rip the cover off the ball– we are talking massive festival sized crushing. I have read everyone’s posts about the misery of the festival– the crowds, the heat, the cops, and the corporate rape– but will any of that matter once swimming in the bombast of the summer’s murkiest Mike’s jam? The magnitude of the Phish could be too much too miss. Any way I cut it, it’ll be pretty hard for me to sit by and wait for St. Louis!" phishthoughts.com/

i think it's just based upon speculation from the rumors he's been reading. but from what i've read almost 90% of the roo rumors include a late night set. what i nice surprise that would be. we'll see.....

Where does he read this stuff? from people who have never been to Roo?? "I have read everyone’s posts about the misery of the festival– the crowds, the heat, the cops, and the corporate rape"
Yes the heat sucks but welcome to TN in June, be thankful it isn't in August!! The rest I dont get - the crowds are there no matter what festival.

The heat is bad. Fortunately, I've lived in Georgia for most of my life and can handle it. The Phish Festivals were always either up north in the Summer (70 degrees) or down in Florida in the Winter (80 degrees). The heat isn't a problem for those who are prepared.
Phish fans just don't want to share the band. It's theirs. Not yours. The problem is that they are delusional. They will come up with any excuse possible to skip out on a festival they feel is a johnny-come-lately of the Phish festival formula. The people who liked Phish for the right reason (us), loved them for the music. The music is why we also love Bonnaroo. They can't seem to grasp that 6 sets of only Phish isn't nearly as good as 4 sets of Phish and 100 other great bands. Their cost benefit meter is broken.

The post is from a Phish board. There is a (common) breed of Phan that considers all non-Phish music an insult to their ears. They vomit in their mouths at the thought of Phish playing the stage as the pre-headliners that come before them, and at the thought having to watch Phish with lay people who (gasp) listen to music besides Phish.
The heat will be there (after a cold ass winter in New England, prolonged exposure to the sun is one of the things I look forward to most). The crowds remark is just dumb. The cops, lets just say i wasnt looking over my shoulder the whole weekend. Corporate rape, you're in America. F'n deal with it. If you would skip a festival because it has corporate sponsors help improve the experience of the fans, get off the internet because apple and microsoft are 2 of the biggest corporations in america. Without them, and the contributions they've made to society over the past 25 years, you wouldn't have a message board to btch on. Which has corporate advertisements all over it.
To all of these "phans", get off your high horse. You're not a music connoiseur or elitist bc you only listen to Phish. You're ignorant and closed-minded which is the opposite of everything Phish stands for. They are playing roo because they are tired of playing for you sniveling babies, and would like to play in front of fans of Music for once.
You should follow Phish's lead and check out Bonnaroo. You might learn something. If not, good riddance. We'll watch your favorite band drop two of their most epic sets ever and nobody will miss you one bit.

is there a curfew even on sunday? arent the grounds open till sometime monday after noon anyway, whats the difference if they play till one or three
Bonnaroo is in a residential area... and where Superfly has probably worked out a 24 hour deal with the town for Friday and Saturday night... I'd think there would be a curfew for music on Sunday at some point (1AM?) because the people of Manchester have to get up for work in the morning. This may also be why there has not been a Thursday all-nighter yet
^^haha. I had to get that off my chest. I feel much better now
You did good!! lol
Well I consider myself a phan but like you said, because I love good music. I saw the Grateful Dead and Phish countless times and was at Big Cypress, and let me tell you, the closest thing I have found to that vibe is Bonnaroo. The first time I went to Bonnaroo, my first thought was how much like the Big Cypress set up it was, only more bands. I think the Phish fans who are festival haters or Bonnaroo haters will have a change of attitude once they experience it.

Just my guess
Umm.... Bonnaroo is on a farm... pretty much in the middle of nowhere - sure there are some houses within an ear shot - but I think Centroo is located in a way that even the closest residents could silence the stage by closing door or shutting a window. Think about it - you can't even hear the music from some of the campsites....
Anyhow, last year Porter-Batiste-Stolz played until 4:30 am on Thursday night. Maybe not a true "all nighter" in the 'Roo sense - but still - it is better than in year's past. This past year Thursday was really more of a "full half day" meaning music started at 4pm and lasted until 4 am ... If I remember correctly in years past the music on Thursday didn't start until like 8 and only lasted until 12 or 1
I'm not sure that there is some hard law or accord with the city that says "music will end at midnight on Sunday" - I think the Sunday night headliner does their 4 hours and they are ready to go home themselves....
Don't get me wrong - I would love nothing more than having music until 7 am on Monday morning - but I think sometimes people tend to give the bands the benefit of the doubt and blame the promoters for the length of sets. ie. "Band XYZ would totally play for 8 hours if the man would let them" I think sometimes bands don't want to play forever - sometimes a mood strikes them and something special happens and they go on a marathon which is my favorite part about Bonnaroo - its really one fo the only venues where a band can play for as long as they want (late night at least)
On a side note - does anyone remember how long Umphrey's McGee/The Disco Biscuits show lasted in 2006? I want to say it was from like 1am - 7am

I'm digressing - does anyone else remember when Sasha wrapped things up in 2007? I want to say it was like 9am - does that seem right? I know the sun was up for like a full hour before he tired out - I also remember like 1,000 people who weren't tired and wanted more tunes - then everyone spontaneously started banging on anything that was within sight...

Well put my friend. I'm not even really sure about this but I don't think Mr.Miner has been to Roo? I could be wrong. But a lot of people talk trash about Bonnaroo. But that's okay. More dancin space for me is the way I see it. It's too bad for these Phisheads who think badly of the Roo. There gonna be missing some of the greatest Phish has ever played. Sucks for them.
On a brighter note. MonkeyShirt that video is utterly priceless. Karma my friend. That vid gave me the Bonnaroo spine-tingly vibe for a second. I felt like I was in the hot June Tennessee sun with some of my good for friends for a minute there sitting here in the middle of January with snow on the ground. Thanks man. I'm ready for Roo already. Please come fast....

that is a priceless video. Where did the music go????? lolz
Great post about Phish too.. . I cant wait until I finally get to see them. Plus the possibility of Mike Gordon playing with another band is almost certain too!
yeah the security gaurd taking away there sticks at the end is priceless. first are we in primitive times now? a stick is really gonna cause that much damage if used as a weapon. im pretty sure i could do worse with my bare hands. but the best part is that the wooks aren't even phased by it. they look a little dumbfounded at first but then the just continue bangin the thing with there hands! lol. thats some good shit

haha! the kid in the beginning with the bandana and white t-shirt and then banging the giant stick at the end is my friend that was there with us, he was telling us about this that morning.
I will never, as long as I live, understand the mindset that says, "I won't watch my favorite band play, because they are preceded and followed by other musicians with whom I'm unfamiliar."
Seriously. It just does not make sense to me.
Usually, at my job, I can't get by without trying to understand where people with odd or unusual ideas are coming from.

Baffling.

but i am sam is a great movie and i dont understand it either...a great band at a festival with 100 other great bands...NOT A GOOD FESTIVAL??? must have been droped on the head as a baby

^^^^^ also Karma to above funny quote I've heard that where did it come from again?
Karma bro could not have said it better myself. I have been a huge Deadhead since 1984 and Phish fan since the later 80's and seen both bands more times than most of these elitist 'phans'. Been to some Phish only fest's (Lemonwheel, Big Cypress) and countless other music fests over the years. To be so close-minded as to only want to see Phish is just lame. and like you say follow Phish's lead. I mean look at the diversity of cover songs that they do and realise the wide extent of their musical influences that got them to where they are today as a band. But if you can't get over yourself...good...don't go to 'roo and allow me to have phun without your bs vibe.
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."
