Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
how long before the first show are people gonna camp the front of the stage?
Good question. It amazes me that people will sacrifice the rest of the day at Bonnaroo just to make sure they are close for 1 band. For the first show, I will probably start way back in the crowd at the start of Phish. 30 minutes into it, thousands of people that aren't really into Phish will leave. I'll then see if I can get a lot closer (without being obnoxious of course). If that strategy fails on night 1, I may be forced to get there early on night 2.
I've seen them only once even though I've been an avid listener for about 10 years.
Roo's show will be my 3rd show. (Can't wait for the party that will be Mansfield!!!!!)
and as for the getting up front I've pretty much decided to get there early. im thinking atleast a couple acts before them. i plan on bringing quite a few glowsticks to launch from upfront as well. lets replicate the IT Ghost jam!!!!!!!

but camping out the main stage isnt really that big of a deal i dont think, you are gonna see some incredible acts throughout the day. Of course youll miss a lot, but that is inevitable.

I'll go ahead and say it, and you can smite me if you want, but if you are going to camp out at Bonnaroo's main stage to be up front for Phish, that is a rookie mistake!!
I like being close too, and Phish is my favorite band ever, but up close at GA shows leaves little to no dancing room for Phish. And IF YOU'RE NOT DANCING, YOU'RE NOT "SHARIN IN THE GROOVE."
Give me space and give me lights. I'll be the kid in the middle of the field spinning in circles.

while this may be true, i just wanna see the boys together up close and personal. i may or may not stay up front but it's always been a dream of mine.

I hear ya. I wasn't talking specifically to you illyb, just a point of reference.
Here is my experience at Big GA shows. You get up close early. You stake out a spot, and think "this is awesome! there is no one here! I have plenty of room and I am super-close." Then 10 minutes before show time, the crowd will fill in all around you, forcing you to stand up b/c people will literally be standing on top of you. When you stand up, the crowd will fill in even more around you. The lights go out, and there will be a massive crush to the front, and you will have no room what-so-ever, and you will be PISSED b/c all of these f*ckfaces who intruded into the spot you staked out for hours. You will inevitably step on toes trying to dance, and you will have to throw some soft elbows to get these people to clear out. But don't be dissuaded!! Once you start dancing like a crazed bafoon, the crowd will clear out around you some.
I realize there is a pit area at the main stage of Roo, so maybe it will be better in there, but this is just my experience of every GA Phish show I have ever attended.
Hey now. No way it counts as much. I had to walk 7 miles to get there after waiting 26 hours in traffic. If you did that for the simulcast, then you can count it
Ok I have seen Phish around 70 times I'd guess never really counted this includes Lemonwheel and Big Cypress. My first time was in 1987 last time was 2003 New Year EVE. I will not be seeing Phish again until 'roo. And as far as getting up close at big festival shows is concerned. Gouge is right you'll end up being pretty uncomfortable etc.. etc..My suggestion is if you want to see the band close a fest. is NOT the situation to do it at but hey to each his own. Personally I am way to old for that and do not in any way need to be close. I'll be out in the field dancing my ass off and enjoying some space (hopefully)
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

^ Bitterly hot and miserable. Whenever I hit up the daytime shows, I don't spend more than 2 hours or so out in the sun without taking a good long shade break. As long as everyone agrees not to start lining up too early, we shouldn't have a problem.

Actually its not that bad. I was on the rail for Pearl Jam last year and you just wait off to the side of the pit against a wall which actually gives you pretty good shade. It was actually pretty enjoyable, of course you will have to deal with douchebags trying to jump in line before the show starts but just make sure that you work together with the people who have been waiting all day with you and should be fine. While I generally would be against waiting all day to be up front for one band if its your favorite band and you will probably never have an oppurtunity to see them that close again then its definitely worth it.

^As much as I LOVE Phish, I will be seeing them in the 2 -'Villes beforehand, so I won't be hanging out missing other shows to get up front. But you def. made it sound less severe than I thought.
No, I have heard of a simulcast though. There is a formal petition online somewhere in support of the simulcast.
I think you mean "webcast." A simulcast means showing it live in movie theaters.
And neither is happening. The fans did set up a petition, but the band wants this to be a no pressure situation. In their words they want to "ease back into this," and so it is off the table.
I think it is a great idea though, b/c I was at Hampton in 2003 when they re-united the first time and it was a sea of ticketless. I think a simulcast/webcast would cut down on that.
