bonnaroo always pays for the cops. i talked to a local in the wal mart lot in 07 and he said they all basically work overtime all weekend and bonnaroo pays for all of it.
in light of this whole phish paying to have cops at the show... is there any chance that they will pay to have more cops at bonnaroo?? and if so where would the cops be allowed... only outside or possibly inside too? i don't know i just got freaked out because of this article: www.nme.com/news/phish/43337 .. and how they mentioned bonnaroo in it.
yea, Phish is going to totally ruin Bonnaroo. The police will be EVERYWHERE!!!!!
This was said in pure sarcasm by the way. You won't notice a difference. As has already been clarified, every major band that plays a big show in a big arena has to cover costs of the increased security demanded for permission to play.
You could phrase it as "Phish paid the police the arrest their fans" or you could phrase it as "Phish played 3 nights in Hampton and followed the rules required for them to play there"
One is incredibly biased against Phish and is intended to try and give them a bad rep to their fans, the other is just what it is.

From Bonnaroo Email:
Congratulations to Phish and their crew for an incredible reunion last weekend in Hampton. Visit the Bonnaroo message board to discuss these shows and their upcoming tour, including two very special sets on Friday and Sunday nights at Bonnaroo 2009!
They keep saying very special, so I think there is something to that 3d rumor. Also, if the 3d thing is true, and has been in the works for months now, I think we'll be getting a little bit more than the Polar Express 3d at your local theatre. You gotta give Phish/Kuroda the benefit of the doubt that this will be unprecedented awesomeness.

oo okay i gotcha. i didn't really realize it was something they had to do so they could play the venue... cool. it just made me feel a little uncomfortable. haha.

If it is true they must be putting a TON of work into it, from reviews of the other shows that have done this I think it would be pretty damn awesome.

so if this 3d rumor is valid... and you didn't want to be sober while experiencing Phish live in 3d... not some bullhonkey Jonas Brothers movie... what would you take to enhance the experience? ...im thinking portabellos as well.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey
at least there were no stampedes in hampton. who knows what could have happened if there wasnt all the policea. it was what it was.
This is my major beef with people badmouthing Phish and the hiring of extra police.
People would have died that weekend if those police weren't there to control the situation. I don't know about anyone else, but I for one am glad the police were there to quell the situation. If you got caught and busted, I'm very sorry, but that's kind of part of the game, really. If you have illicit substances on you, you might get caught and busted. That kind if the way it works if you choose to partake. You have to accept it as a possible consequence.

I found something very disturbing on the Hampton mp3........After Theme from the Bottom, you can clearly hear some girl referring to.....'the bass player'... ::shudder::

Phish paid for additional police presence for crowd and traffic control. Does anyone know if that money was also used for undercover officers who made many of the arrests?

So waht? It's most likely her first show. I saw Bisco last week and I can't tell you any of their names. At least she knows Mike Gordon's nasty on bass even though she didn't know who he was.
If you go to PT threads there is a link to some torrents that are a video a guy made the first night. Pretty high quality and worth a look. If you can not find it just PM me.

lol I hope Mike didn't hear that
the bass player hah. its mother fucking cactus! or michael "soft g" gordon.
^^Yeah, I agree- don't miss either show. With any luck there will be collabs abound (D. Byrne plz) on Sunday, and heavyarse Catcus bombs to the domepiece on Friday night (not that there will be a lack of bombs on Sunday, night brings out the beast in all of us ).
For the first couple of shows I saw by Phish, I found I didn't really need any extra-curricular support if you will. The energy that this band brings on stage, in my opinion, is unmatched by anyone touring right now (what's that, Bruce? Oh, a knee slide across the stage? Hmm.). ...then again, if you do find yourself full of shittakes or what have you, you'll probably need a CAT scan after the late night set
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

while I'm going to agree with you, I'm also going to say that she maybe could have boned up on some Phish knowledge before going.
If you wanted to make Hampton your first ever shows, that's fine, but also recognize that you are extremely lucky and should show the band some respect by at least knowing their names.
It's not the fact that it was her first shows that bothers me, it's the fact that she chose those shows and didn't bother to even care enough to learn their names..
yeah, I've been to first shows for other bands before and not known every name of every band member, but these shows were extremely significant. They were not normal run of the mill shows. I view it as sort of disrespectful.

I'm at that point right now where I absolutely will not miss a single second of either Phish show, regardless of the conflicts for the late night. Even if it's NIN, Volta, or Mule.
Phish trumps all! Sunday night was the greatest thing I have ever seen. I keep thinking back to the night, listening to the set, and looking at the pictures/videos of the show. Something happened that night. Call it a planetary shift, or what have you... but I'm convinced that my life is better now after seeing Phish. Never before has a band brought tears of pure joy to my eyes just by doing what the do.
