The only thing that worries me is that if phish plays, tickets will sell out faster, and to phish fans. Not that I have a problem with phish fans, I don't think I ever met any before actually, but I just don't want that because I need to wait for a good chunk of lineup and maybe roth/allgood lineup to make my decision.
I kinda wanna see where the Dead go(if they go) =) I need to see them, or whats left of them, before I die, and to be honest if the Dead played bonnaroo over phish I'd be much more excited.
Im not a huge Phish fan but thats admittedly because ive never really given them a chance, that will change if they will be playing Roo.
My question is how quickly do people think tickets will sell out if this rumor is indeed true? Ive seen alot of people saying it would sell out quickly but I have a hard time believing that 80,000 tickets would sell out that quickly but obviously you Phish fans will know alot more about their popularity then I would.
Im in the buy tickets regardless of lineup cause I love the roo and I will most def. check out Phish if only to see what all the hype is about but I know that I wont be able to get tickets until pretty close to the festival so I want to know how worried I should be about not being able to get tix. Thanks

I'm going to say it:
There are a lot of people around here who have only been to one or two Bonnaroos. Oh, you like Metallica and Pearl Jam, so you decided to check out the festival last year? Great. I'm glad you had a good time. But guess what? Bonnaroo is going to return to its roots this year and jam out. You don't like it? GO TO ANOTHER FESTIVAL. I'm sure Lolla will have some headliners you like (and there will probably be three of them). You already go to Lolla? Go to Coachella too. Phish playing two nights at 'roo is an homage to the fact that they are the band that made the festival possible.
There are a lot of people who left this community last year after the line-up came out. A lot of roo veterans dropped out and went to other festivals because Bonnaroo deviated from earlier years' jam formats. Hopefully, two nights of Phish will bring these people back. Bonnaroo used to have a vibe and an atmosphere that was parallel to none. 80,000 people on the same wavelength grooving along together. Last year, however, Bonnaroo was a strange amalgamation of different kinds of people. There was a much higher rate of d.ouche bags per capita last year. Maybe you were one of them. But now, with Phish playing two nights, Bonnaroo can return to its previous glory. There will crunchy granola heads everywhere. Thousands of people won't get robbed like they did this past year. And order will be restored to the world.
There are over 100 bands at 'roo every year. Why flip out because one band (who happens to be the biggest draw) gets two shows? I sat through Metallica. I sat through Tool. Now I'm getting those hours of my life back. Go ahead smite me.
As I've said before, I'm not really a big Phish fan. I would say I'm a casual fan at best. Never been to a Phish show, only have like 2 Phish albums in my catalog, and they aren't part of my regular rotations. But Phish at Bonnaroo sounds perfect to me, because it will bring the old crowd back.

Well the hampton reunion 3 nights 14500 per night sold out in 3 tenths of a nanosecond. Realistically though this will not sell bonnaroo out so fast you cant get a ticket in the first two weeks. I just would not wait until mid April to get my tickets either if it is that important to you either.
I'm just trying to remind people of what the festival and this community looked like a year or two ago - call me nostalgic.
Hey, I was there, too. I remember.
But Phish isn't some magic salve that will wash away Bonnaroo's reputation. The cat's too far out of the bag. The Bonnaroo you knew is dead. Long live Bonnaroo.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about Roo selling out instantly. Superfly probably has a quota their trying to hit with the presale, and this rumor is likely out there in order to hit that quota. I also believe the payment plan will still apply for the next go around when they release the lineup.

Wow.....all it takes is one band playing Bonnaroo and suddenly all the naysayers are back on board....for how long? Till they have another lineup you don't like?
I'm completely down with Phish being there...look forward to it if it pans out....I don't even mind them playing two nights....but I don't like the condescending attitude of people who slammed Roo last year acting like they have won back their inheritance with Phish playing Roo again. It's a music festival.....an AWESOME music festival...but it will always go for what they think will sell....cause it's also a business. Love it/Hate it....or go back and forth...it's not going to change to the point that it's only one type of music or another.

I find it more amusing to see people who have hated on the festival for not booking enough acts like Phish in the past few years rooting for the two nights of Phish rumor to be untrue so they don't have to go back to liking Bonnaroo again...
I think Phish, coupled with a strong undercard, could revive the old 'roo.
Only if Phish can jam so hard they reverse the rotation of the Earth and send us back in time to when every theiving wook and drunken frat guy in a 700-mile radius hadn't heard of Bonnaroo.

i thought bonnaroo was about acceptance of all music?
i wasnt a metallica fan at all, in fact i didnt plan on watching the performance. but i watched chris rock so i stuck around and watched them, and they put on a very good show, and they respected the fact they were there. i didnt have any problems with anybody there, and saw many of the metallica fans at other shows appreciating the music they heard.
i have no problem with phish being there for two night, i have never seen them, but have heard very good things about their shows so i will check it out and am sure i will have a great time. i would prefer they got 1 late night and 1 headliner though so that we could have 3 headliners, not to mention the late nights are the bigger attraction for me then the headlining time slot, so i would love to see phish doing a late night stage set(maybe the same time as MMJ last year?)

Bonnaroo is about acceptance of all music. I accepted the fact that Metallica played last year - that doesn't mean I have to like it. Acceptance and appreciation are different things.

im more happy for those who live close to roo and want to see phish more than anything....mulchy for example (who is internetless..) is gonna be SO FUCKIN down and ready for this....im just happy for everyone. if phish is there you guys are gunna have fun

note taken, however it just bothers me when i still see people say Metallica destroyed Bonnaroo like i see so often here and other places.
i didnt like Metallica and in all honesty didnt have much respect for them, after i saw their set last year i gained alot of respect for them. you could tell they were really excited to be at Bonnaroo. they respected the fact that they were playing Bonnaroo and like i said they put on a hell of a show.
If Phish only headlines one night, Superfly will probably book Nickleback to play the other night.
A bit of a stretch imho...but so what? Skip it. Take a nap....get ready for late night...whateva....Nickelback is DEF not to my taste either but as a lot of peeps have said...it's about having choices. You can choose to go or not....choose which sets to see or not...there's a LOT going on at Roo ALL THE TIME....do what you want when you want but slamming on every band you don't like and wishing the bands you DO like play "all the time" is pointless.....
^^^You say this now but what if Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers get booked, and suddenly the women's restrooms are filled with junior high girls...
Hold on...I just remembered there are no women's restrooms. Only port-a-potties that would undoubtedly traumatize any tweener girl unfortunate enough to inhabit one.

It was a joke. Nickleback playing Bonnaroo is more than a stretch, it is unfathomable. I was making light of the fact that some of the recent headliner choices have progressed more towards mainstream rock. I don't spend all my time slamming every band I don't like and wishing bands I do like would play "all the time". I don't really feel as if my posts have really done that either. I commented on how I didn't care for Tool or Metallica - I didn't trash either band. In fact, I respect Tool a lot, they just aren't my bag. The point of my comments was to illustrate the fact that not everyone is going to like every headliner every year.

i personally dont think anyone needs to freak out and buy a ticket right now because they think they won't be able to get one if they do announce Phish. i think it's a little silly that some people who weren't planning on buying tix til later or even at all jumped the gun and bought tickets today just in case.
phish will announce a tour. and a lot of phish fans would rather just go to their own show instead of a 4 day fest. Who knows, phish might even have their own fest at the end of the summer.
So while I wouldnt wait til the last day, I think you will be okay for a bit... at least wait and see if they are even on the bill if you are not ready to buy a ticket yet.
LMAO!! So true....I can't imagine Hannah Montana using a port-o-pot!
But....really....Roo isn't about "selling every ticket" anymore...it's WAAAY beyond that. Yes...selling tickets IS one of the metrics in being a successful festival...but at this point it's really beyond that for Roo. They have outgrown having to sell EVERY ticket just to make ends meet. They now have to continually prove that they are the most relevant music festie in the country....and that's a LOT to shoulder. You can't do that on the backs of any one band (or on the backs of Hannah Montana and the Jonas Bros - LOL!)...it's about more than selling tix now for them and that's why I think it's premature to say they are banking on Phish fans to break the bank this year. They are looking at what lineup is gonna keep them on top in the industry.
And I totally agree with your concept that everyone isn't always going to like every headliner....that's basically my point as well. I just went at it from a diff angle...
