I definitely stand behind the jay-z statement, maybe not from the clue itself, but in general...same for coldplay ecspecially since coldplay and jay-z announced they are working together...or doing shows together...or something....but since this isn't exactly clue oriented I digress
yeah my "answer" to the clue is just personal opinion. When i first saw the clue my mind went to jigga. I think its a very good fit for jay-z at roo...BUT...i'd be SUPER EPICALLY PISSED if Coldplay palys roo. Parachutes and Rush of Blood are great records but these last two were so bad. Plus the fact that they ripped the Viva La Vida from Satriani haha
my instinct tells me we will get a new clue tomorrow. i think i remember that djjd never gave us a clue on the weekend, and it would make sense to get one on the monday after xmas.

Assuming the AC/DC reference is to "Astro", why couldn't that mean the White Stripes?
The he/she angle works (Jack/Meg).
Also Jack White goes back and forth between his 2 bands: (Rac's played Lolla in 06, Stripes 'Roo in 07, Rac's every festival in 08) Sticking with that pattern would mean Stripes touring in 08.
I know the whole "not touring bc of Meg's anxiety" deal (which I always thought was made-up so they didnt have to answer questions about being broken up), but I still think this is a real possibility.
Peronally, I'd rather see the Raconteurs again, but would be ecstatic either way (maybe both?) I can dream...

Just like last year, I think too many people are thinking of artists they want to play 'roo, then projecting the clues on to them. They simply are not going to let any big cats out of the bag this early in the game. Perhaps the clues will be deliberately vague, so that they cannot be solved. But they are not going to tip us off on a name as big as Jay-Z with the first two or three clues.
I know I've said it a dozen times now, but I think something in the "Edison" department is our best bet.
a tv is normally powered by AC (plug in) .... portable radios are powered by DC (batteries)
thus.... TV on the Radio at ROO '09
hell even the " / " looks like it could represent the words "on the"
edit.... after finishing the pages, looks like this was already mentioned
Definitely not dumb at all - in fact, this makes more sense than most of the answers I've seen here. I didn't know enough about electricity to make that connection, but I'm glad someone did.

was this the full clue? it starts off with the word "but", which makes it look like something should've come before it. has anyone thought of this?
just thought of something...
when you think of this clue, what does it make you say?
it makes me say "who is like ac/dc that's not in europe" - which translates to WHO IS TOURING THAT WON'T BE IN EUROPE - which is making me think it might be THE WHO
i googled the phrase "bands like ac/dc" and in the first result you get a link to a forum listing van halen, the who and queen - which none of these aren't really like ac/dc - the only way they are like ac/dc is that they are classic, mainstream radio rock
another link that comes up by googling this is some australian band called airbourne
maybe it will be the so-called "greatest ac/dc tribute band" called ACtion in DC...think about it...not really a huge named band clue...we had LeZ Zeppelin last year...maybe they thought why not get another tribute band...so maybe this ACtion in DC band will be a thursday tent headliner...but god i hope not...i never much cared for ac/dc, so i won't lose any sleep if i never see them or any tribute band to them in concert
I could swear we got clues to both Metallica and Pearl Jam last year. And the PJ one was really, really easy.
Yea, we did; and from what I've heard, the big wigs were not very happy about it. Moreover, those clues came (if memory serves me correctly) just 48 hours before the line-up came out, which is why I don't think we will get any clues about big names this year, especially not this early.
it makes me say "who is like ac/dc that's not in europe" - which translates to WHO IS TOURING THAT WON'T BE IN EUROPE - which is making me think it might be THE WHO
But it doesn't say "someone who is LIKE AC/DC," it's "someone who IS AC/DC"...and anyway, most of our clues are wordplay and riddle type things, not something as simple as telling us a similar act. And I don't think a clue this early would be for such a big name anyway. Not that I wouldn't love to see the Who at Roo! (Although, can you imagine how complicated it would be having the Who play at What Stage? If they ever book Yes or The Band none of us will ever have any idea what's going on!)
I still think the clue refers to an individual person as opposed to a group or band. Just because its "someONE who IS AC/DC." In what way can AC/DC describe a person?
i think i remember that djjd never gave us a clue on the weekend
I'm pretty sure that there was a Saturday afternoon that just went ballistic with clues last year. I remember I wasn't at work but I don't work a M-F schedule so it's possible it was a weekday but I think it was a Saturday.

oh, of course. you don't eat someone's brunch then toy with them maliciously. but we are all quite daft, in the best ways possible.
from what i can tell: there are three actual clues, one of which is lost to faded memory, but could by phishy? ac/dc clue has to be tv on the radio. dear science was huge and right around the time ac was probably signing the big ear clue is just an example of what this all is influenced by, and i wouldn't be surprised to see dan deacon come out of those artists. i saw dan deacon with girl talk...
so: phish, tv on the radio, and dan deacon. that's my vote.
Well I don't remember anything about the clue phishy or not, also it was said last year at Bonnaroo when the reunion was not even being discussed. Big Ears could refer to the festival AC (Todds company) is putting on in Knoxvegas, hmmm neagtiveland at Bonnaroo. That would be stupid.
