"BIG" announcement? Widespread Panic??? Don't go down that road again! They have been hyping this announcement up quite a bit on their facebook too, and they've had some pretty solid line-ups in the past, so I'm expecting something a little bigger than wilco or wsp (although wilco would be fantastic).
oh, and don't forget that they have enough room for over 80,000 people...
That would be "big" for them. I hate to throw around the P word so loosely, but maybe they have Phish. That was qualify as biggest announcement. The Dead would be the other band to come to mind.
I love this festival, and this announcement has be intrigued, and a bit worried.
Part of what I love about 10k is the fact that it's smaller. It's a centrally located permanent venue. Real bathrooms and showers that don't cost extra.
I could maybe see Phish playing here. Trey was supposed to play two years ago but had to cancel after his arrest. Maybe he's coming back with the rest of the boys?
The kicker? it's not big enough. Sure, the campground is large, but the central festival area is not that large. There's a reason the attendance is around 15-20k.
10KLF I think will always keep its small festival atmosphere. As far as festivals go, you can't beat this one. I specially like the VIP camping with electric hook ups. Oh and don't forget the best food item there, the beef sundae. Mmmmmm, it's heaven baby. We may miss Roo this year but not 10KLF, it's just too convenient.

Hell yes the beef sundae is delicious!! it took me a bit to get past the disgusting name abefore i got one, but damn it was good. The oof-da tacos are tasty, too. Anyway, 10k just sent out a message on facebook:
10KLF has announced a few initial artists for this years festivities during Snowball this past weekend with Wookiefoot:
They are:
Daave Matthews Band Wilco Trampled by Turtles Wookiefoot Widespread Panic
More announcements to be made 1/21/09, so stay tuned!!!
This "big announcement" and the super big announcement that is supposed to be coming from Summer Camp is making me wonder if Phish is going to flood the festival scene this year. That's one way to keep any one fest from being overwhelmed.

My guess is that Wilco isn't a headliner. They have something 'bigger' in store. I wanna say that it's Phish but my bet is The Dead.
My gut feeling says it's the Dead. I like the bigger bands, but some of the best shows I saw last year were the smaller bands playing on the Saloon stage. They serve Newcastle too in there, Mmmmmm. Anyways, the excitement is building!
i'm excited for all the lineups for festivals near the east coast (and even in the midwest). I never decide which one im gonna hit up until the lineups are out...10klf is sounding pretty exciting this year though, I must say.
alright, I'm convinced it's going to be 2 nights of panic headlining, and one night of phish. Trey promised to pay 10klf back for missing his headlining spot in 07. If that's not the case, then one night phish, one night panic, and one night DMB. Phish seems like the only way they can live up to the "biggest announcement ever" hype!

So are we expecting a 10klf announcement tomorrow only, or is there a possibility of a late-night tonight? I haven't followed 10klf in past years so I'm not sure what their internal clock is like...
They are announcing at noon central time tomorrow on their website, but i think one of the local radio stations here is going to break it at 7:30 am. I'll be tuned in as soon as i get to work tomorrow morning!
If Phish or the Dead are not on the line up, I'm not impressed. 2 nights of WSP? I don't think I can take that. Maybe Roo will be my fest this year and the one in my backyard won't?

I really hope that is not the big news. I was hoping this vs. Mountain Jam but ... If this is what they are gonna give us...

there was a very slim chance i was considering going. but with that lineup, its a pretty easy decision. Not that its a bad lineup, but its just not the best for my money considering the travel plus the ticket cost
Talk about a top heavy lineup. After Umphreys there is a huge drop off. I guess the thing to learn from this is that whenever a festival says "Big Announcement" you should just be prepared to be disappointed.
official announcement just came over the radio...panic wednesday and firday, wilco headlines thursday, dave matthews band closes on saturday night. does dave matthews really count as big news?!? sheesh.

This is a BIG annoucement for a small festival like 10K. People were expecting Phish and The Dead, lol that festival site wouldn't be able to handle the amount of people who would show up for that. This festival prolly holds like 25k max. Widespread playing two nights at that fest is big since they were the first big headliner in 10K's history and haven't played in like 3 or 4 years there. Unlike Bonnaroo who books them to headline every year. Not to mention it's probably the best place for a festival, yes even better than Rothbury. Permanent free showers and bathrooms where you can actually wash your hands afterwards. Free ice cold clean water pretty much wherever you go. Camping in the shade,a temp that doen't go above 80 the whole weekend. And of course most of these bands have played Roo, the festival scene is so watered down it's hard to get a bunch of bands no one has head of and sell tix.
