Has anyone used one of these hammocks, specifically this brand? It has good reviews, and compared to waking up in a puddle of sweat I think it might be a good investment? amzn.to/LJlhIA
Quoting an oldie for the pic and relevance. Bought this for 2013 Roo and some camping later in the summer. Thought it was great when it came, and I took a nice nap in it. The first night of Roo it started to rip across the center seam, and got worse the next few nights. Still usable, but probably won't be after another 5 or so nights. And holy shit that thing is uncomfortable. The stiff nature of it doesn't cradle you at all. I was shocked that it made my knees hurt, since I couldn't lie even halfway on my side, and when on my back it actually made me knees hurt because of the stiffness and poor shape. Bigger, more traditional hammocks are great, but if you want something that will fit in a tent (just fits diagonally in a 9x7 Coleman - would not fit the shape of a 9x7 Walmart tent), get a dang cot and be done with it.
So it is cheap, portable and reasonably easy set up, but it rips easily at the seams (200 lbs shouldn't be too much), and it requires 11+ feet for the stand to open.
Amazon will have an EZ-up 10X10 Pyramid as one of their Black Friday Lightning deals today at 6pm Central time. It's currently listed around $200, not sure what the Lightning Deal price will be but if you're in the market for one, this might be a good time to buy.
I wouldn't pay more than $50 for a 10X10 EZ UP unless it had some special features (maybe side walls?). Inevitably there will be deals throughout the year for $50 10X10 EZ UPs
Yeah. Academy has consistently had a 10x10' EZ Up for $50.
That one on Amazon was the true 10x10 with the straight legs though. The ones from Academy have slanted legs making them 8x8 at the top. I didn't see what the deal price on Amazon was though. I've been having terrible luck catching those lightning deals. They seem to sell out before they are even available to add to my cart.
True, but it's still pretty good, even at 8'x8' up top. I have that 1 with the slanted legs, used a 12'x12' slanted leg that completely broke this summer, and a 10'x10' First Up canopy I've been pleased with. All 3 have been used at Bonnaroo.
I figured I'd check with the resourceful folks here at inforoo, but does anyone know of any cheap replacement tops fer EZ-Ups? I forgot to pack mine up Monday mornin' last year.
In my experience you will have a hard time finding a replacement for the EZ UP tarp...or would want to afford a brand new one. If you were left with a functioning or semi-functioning frame it has same uses for sure. If your are sleeping in a tent (i do) it is great to use as a tarp or shade support over your tent...which leads to longer sleep. You can set it down low or at an angle if you have a small tent. Tarps can easily be draped over it...but make sure to cover any sharp points w/ duct tape or whatever. It may not win a beauty contest but you may just end up with a dry, morning shaded spot.
Why did I not think of this?...how many times have you stared into a dark cooler...plunged your hand into the icy depths...only to pull up the wrong beverage. They are very cheap on the web and worth every penny.

oh man, when i was at the beach last time someone had jacked up their frame and tossed it all in a heap by the trashcan. the packrat in me wanted to take the usable part but i couldn't think of why i in particular would need it (i don't have an ez-up). i totally should have nabbed the canvas for someone.
i know some of y'all like those pocket chairs. saw this sale on woot community sourced.
I am sure it this has been said on other posts, but you can avoid buying dry ice and conserve ice in coolers by freezing water bottles, gallon jugs, Gatoraid or even Capri Suns. No need to open them before hand...all non carbonated containers will freeze without breaking. May save you $30 on ice and you can drink the rewards when they thaw.
Kmart has the E-Z Up Sierra II with half wall on sale this week. $60. The website says it's clearance but it's also in the weekly ad so it might be at your local store too.

I'm excited it's close enough to roo to start looking at deals... but I really don't need any new gear, so I will have a love/hate relationship with this thread (and the camping section in Target, and REI) until June. I know I should just avoid it but I will live vicariously through all of you!
This might be helpful. Nonprofit organization. People all around selling stuff cheap and/or giving it away for free. I didn't look for "ROO supply" type things personally, but if you do some digging you might could find those larger items you're looking for.

Has anyone ever owned this brand? Are they sturdy enough? Think I'm going to snag one since mine finally broke after 4 years last year. Thanks!
That brand, E-Z Up, is excellent. There are other good brands, but E-Z Up canopies are known to be of high quality, durable, and are a good value. It is probably the most popular brand, and for good reason. Like a ton of people here I have that particular model, and bought it from Academy Sports for about $50 shipped. It is not a huge one, and I'd say it is even a little on the small side, but for $50 or so you can not beat its sturdy frame and tough top. Having owned generic brands previously, I'd say definitely go for a name brand, like E-Z Up, Quik Shade, or Coleman, to name a few. Store brands like Ozark Trail can be good but are more hit or miss and aren't much if any cheaper. My $35 generic canopy made it through 3 Roos and some other misc. use but was never waterproof and did not survive Sunday night last year.
Academy has a nice selection and they are shipping now for only $8, which seems to vary and is sometimes free. I might pick up a bigger one like the 8x10 E-Z Up Jamboree for $69.99 or the 12x12 Sierra II $79.99, or something else from Academy once warm weather is near. Academy canopies
For sidewalls, I use thrift shop sheets (tie dyed), as suggested on Inforoo. To make them easy and secure I used a $5 grommet kit after reinforcing the corners with a bit of Gorilla tape. I made three pretty ones for less than the cost of buying one plain one.

I'm going to look into that EZ up deal. I work at Cabela's and have been waiting on one to come through the bargain cave. I could take my chances and keep an eye out but just getting one for $50 sounds like a better idea. I really love this thread and I love Roo supply shopping. =D

Another quick question, did anyone else deal with having a dew covered sleeping bag last year? Whenever I got into it at night it just felt like it had been sitting out of my tent the whole time. I zipped my tent up after I got out of it every time. Anyway to avoid this soggy feeling sleeping bag problem?
