Good Lord, man...Ready Player One is the most brilliant sci-fi novel I've read in a long time, and I'm only about 1/3 of the way through it. Hope it continues in this vein.
I've been rereading Chuck Klosterman's Killing Yourself To Live. Last time I read it, I was 18 (I'm 24 now) and it became my favorite book then. Rereading it now, it's even better than I remember. A lot of people think Sex, druqs, and Cocoa Puffs is his best, but I digress. Sex, druqs, and Cocoa puffs is a good, entertaining collection of essays on pop culture. Killing Yourself To Live is a poignant (and at times hilarious) meditation on life and death, with a ton of music nerd references to boot.

This book is incredible, regardless of if you have any interest in the Vietnam War.
Borrowed this book from Chico, back in May. Started to read it before Roo and then life got crazy. Looking forward to returning to it after I finish Packing For Mars. I got the sense in the first two chapters that it's going to be a haunting, heavy tale.

I've heard so much about this book so I finally decided to read it. I'm about 1/4 of the way through and so far it's not been anything like I expected, but it's a really good read.

This is a turd. I know less about Phish and ICP than I did before I started this self-indulgent poopshoot. Dude from The Onion AV Club submerges himself in the seedy underbelly of the two tribes' lots by camping with neither and taking cabs back to his hotels.

That's a bummer. I had been thinking about reading that. Think I'll pass on it now.
I'm reading MaddAddam right now, and I'm struggling to get through it. It's been so long since I read The Year of the Flood that I can't really remember what happens and why I should care about these characters. I'll pick it up and read a few pages and then get bored. I enjoy Margaret Atwood but this series is not Atwood's best.
Is anyone reading/going to read Madd Adam by Margret Atwood? Oryx & Crake is easily one of my favourite books ever, and I'm pretty excited about picking it up on my days off.

I love her style... The Blind Assassin is one of my faves. haven't checked out MaddAdam but I think I remember JHOinTN posting somewhere that she was not impressed?
Edit: Haha when I actually came in the thread instead of just replying to the post, JHo had referenced it like three posts before this one..

I'm not expecting big things, I just miss the story. Year of the Flood was just a thrill for me because at the time I had no idea she was expanding off Oryx & Crake.

Yes, I read it two weeks ago. I'll be honest, I did not like it. It's been so long since I'd read Year of the Flood that I couldn't remember what had happened so this book was hard to grasp. It took me almost two weeks to read it, which is rare because I consume books like food.
I'm about to start Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. I'm ready to see why this book has been banned!

So it might be a good idea to reread Year of the flood then. I. Was thinking I was gonna do that anyway. I won't need to thereafter Oryx and Crake, as I could probably recite the entire book off by heart. Year of the Flood is a little fuzzy in my memory, so yeah, I'll probably do that first. I'm a big Atwood fan boy.

Just finished reading DMT: The Spirit Molecule by Dr. Rick Strausmann. Really interesting book if you're at all interested in psychedelic research and what not. It's a really good look at all the intricacies and challenges he faced when trying to perform clinical research with a Schedule I substance.
Yesterday I went to the bookstore and got myself into a bit of trouble because they were having a buy one get one free sale. I picked up quite a few books:
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man - Joyce The Sound and The Fury - Faulkner Fight Club - Palahniuk The Stranger - Camus The Most Beautiful Woman in Town - Bukowski Broom in the System - DFW Naked Lunch - Burroughs War God - Hancock
Think I'm going to dive into Portrait of the Artist first.

I'm going to start Palahniuks's sequel to Damned, Doomed, this weekend. The first one was laugh-out-loud funny and this should be a fun read leading up to All Hallows' Eve.
edit: I should probably crack open Joe Hill's NOS4A2 (pronounced Nosferatu) too. It's been on my shelf far too long.
I highly recommend Consider the Lobster, Big Red Son, Brief Interviews With Hideous Men, E Unibus Pluram: Television and U.S. Fiction, and The Depressed Person.
I finished Doctor Sleep this weekend. The ending was much like most of King's current books: weak. The story started off strong, but there was just too much "fluff" in the middle. His editor needs to be more vigilant.
But, over Labor Day, I read Joyland and really liked it. Out of King's more recent books, this may be my favorite.
