^^^we can try...im not too savy on bushs people (seeing as how im relatively new to the whole politcal world)...may basic belief is that i dont believe in spending the way democrats want to...i dont believe in taking out of someones paycheck, so someone else can have a little more...i believe in personal responsibility (you drive drunk, you pay for it...you have a baby when not ready, you pay for that baby...dont expect others to pay for it because you cant afford it...etc)...if anyone can have a baby and get "free" money from other peoples taxes, then its only fair that the ones being responsible by not taking other peoples money should be compensated...unfortunately that is not how it works...the ones who dont want to further their educations, the ones who make "medicaids" are the ones who get other peoples money, and how is that fair?
also, i take no offense to anything you might have said...i realize the nature of the subject, and know that i am heavily outnumbered with my beliefs in this forum...however, it doesnt mean that i wouldnt like to hear others opinions...how knows, i may just be inclined to turn a little more to the "dark side" (little humour)

I cross ocean, poor and broke, Take bus, see employment folk.
Nice man treat me good in there, Say I need to see welfare.
Welfare say, 'You come no more, We send cash right to your door.'
Welfare checks, they make you wealthy, Medicaid it keep you healthy!
By and by, I get plenty money, Thanks to you, American dummy.
Write to friends in motherland, Tell them 'come fast as you can.'
They come in turbans and Ford trucks, I buy big house with welfare bucks
They come here, we live together, More welfare checks, it gets better!
Fourteen families, they moving in, But neighbor's patience wearing thin.
Finally, white guy moves away, Now I buy his house, and then I say, 'Find more aliens for house to rent.' And in the yard I put a tent.
Send for family they just trash, But they, too, draw the welfare cash! Everything is very good, And soon we own the neighborhood.
We have hobby it's called breeding, Welfare pay for baby feeding.
Kid's need dentist? Wife's need pills? We get free! We got no bills!
American's crazy! He pay all year, To keep welfare running here.
We think America darn good place! Too darn good for the white man race. If they no like us, they can scram, Got lots of room in Pakistan.
(See below)
It is interesting that the federal government provides a single refugee with a monthly allowance of $1,890.00 and each can also get an additional $580.00 in social assistance for a total of$2,470.00 .
This compares very well to a single pensioner who after contributing to the growth and development of America for 40 to 50 years can only receive a monthly maximum of $1,012.00 in old age pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement.
Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees!
Let ’ s send this to all Americans, so we can all be ticked off and maybe we can get the refugees cut back to $1,012.00 and the pensioners up to $2,470 00 and enjoy some of the money we were forced to submit to the Government over the last 40 or 50 years.
Please forward to every American to expose what our elected politicians have been doing over the past 11 years - to the over-taxed American.
I don't know how we fix it, because I agree with a lot of what you're saying, Jigawig. If you choose to build your high-rise condo on the coast and it gets totally slagged by a hurricane, I think you should be the one paying to rebuild. Not my insurance, and certainly not my tax dollars. On the other hand, yes we have irresponsible people having babies. But what about the baby itself? Doesn't someone have to step in and take care of it?
^^^im glad we agree on something...i just got a dwi in dec, but is there an office where i can apply for government help...no...theyll tell me its my own damn fault and that its my responsiblity to take care of it (i 100% agree)...people need to be responsible with their actions, and not rely on others to bail them out
as for the child, its an unfortunate situation because they are born into that life and chances are great that they will continue the cycle, because it is all they know...my suggestion would be to help a family with a child (maybe two), but if that family keeps on having children then tough beans...then people will take the situation more seriously
i work in a pediatric clinic (checking in patients is part of the job) and i see the medicaid forms with 3+ kids (usually all with different last names)...i also see how they come in dressed, what they drive, phones with multiple ringtones, etc...when you think about it, government help pays for their frivolous items...i know this doesnt apply to everyone, but using population statistics tells me that if 90%+ that come into our clinic are like that, then one can assume it applies everywhere
i loved the poem above, havent heard it since like 94, but funny none the less...however, when i heard it , it was regarding mexicans, and turbans was chebbies (chevys)...still true though
everyone get surprised now...i am admitting obama did an excellent job today...in what you may ask...in that he admitted he was wrong selecting some people for his cabinent...high five obama!!!
The problem then is, we still have kids that are unwanted, running the streets, yadda-yadda-yadda. I work in the Juvenile court system, and believe me, I see the same thing day in and day out. I've thought long and hard about when things started to slide like this, because I grew up in a low-income, one paycheck family in the inner city, and I didn't encounter any of the societal problems we have now, nor did my friends. I don't think the finger can be pointed at either political party. I think it points past that to society as a whole. Somewhere along, parents chose to be their kids "friends" as opposed to actually being parents. Thus the new generation learned no responsibility, and it passed on and on from there. Now obviously, before the "kids" on here start burning me, that doesn't apply to everyone. I just searching for the point when things really started to crap out with abuse of the system.

I agree with you about this. And - like you - am not pointing fingers at the "kids" on here. I think it actually started with our generation trying to move beyond what we grew up with. Lots of us grew up with a fairly strict household where mom was home alot more (nope - not bashing working moms - I am one after all) I am just saying - I think the breakdown in sociatey really began with the sense that we were all entitled to more - which - in turn - caused more mothers to get out and find jobs in order to better their family's financial standing and keep up with the Joneses.
I also - at least in the South - attribute the decline in parenting to air conditioners. Back in the 50's - every house has a front porch and evenings were spent sitting on the front porch - talking to neighbors and watching the kids play. If a kid was acting up that wasn't yours - you were expected to reprimand him. But now - we sit closed up - the kids (at least the ones allowed to run the neighborhood) are running the neighborhood and there is no parental supervision. Plus - most people are not about to reprimand someone else's child in the sue-happy society we live in.
Then we get down to the kids now - they live by some sort of honor code that is vastly different then what I grew up with. Maybe we are just old - I don't know - but I do know - no one would have brought a knife or gun to school - because they would have been reported. Even when I went to a small rural school - the guys always had their shotguns in their trucks - but none of them would have thought of using it for anything other then hunting.
Back to the financial thing - it started with keeping up with the Joneses and now is a necessity for any family with kids that wants to own a home and drive two cars. And you need two cars because you have to live in the suburbs to get away from the crime and there are no corner grocery stores anymore, no neighborhood schools, no neighborhood parks.
I find it funny that a democratic leader (forgive for not remembering his name) blamed republicans for the failure of yesterdays stimulus plan. Did he forget that 11 democrats voted against it as well? Damn those meddling republicans. Another sad thing about the package is all the "pork" that will not create jobs (it's called a stimulus package because it's supposed to stimulate the economy). For example, how are skate parks and money for birth control supposed to help stimulate the economy?
On another note, is a country not allowed to defend itself if attacked? All over the world people were protesting Israel's attack on Palestine. However, does anyone report that hamas were shooting rockets into Israel? I don't think so. Hamas shoots crude rockets aimlessly into Israel, where it can hit anyone, women and children included. Israel, on the other hand, specifically targets Hama members. The thing is that Hamas hides in the civilian population, so unfortunately there will be civilian casualties. Nobody seems to report this though. All they report is 50 Palestinian civilians died, compared to one Israeli.
Actually it wasn't "money for birth control"...it was an opt-in option for Medicaid. Basically, medicaid pays for pregnancy care for women who are eligible. This would make women who are eligible for medicaid pregnancy care also eligible for family planning services.
Proper planning of families leads to healthier children and mothers, lower rates of infant mortality and maternal mortality. Also, allowing medicaid to cover family planning would actually be stimulative. For every $1 spent on family planning, $4 of federal and state monies are saved. The CBO predicted that this would save the government $200 million over 5 years and $700 million over 10 years.
Additionally, more people are losing their health care and may need medicaid services. Allowing them access to family planning saves them money too...contraceptives can run as expensive as $75 a month. States who already allow this family planning waiver also have expanded clinic hours and hired new employees...creating jobs.
So no, it's not just "money for birth control". It's a lot more than that.
Right on, Bama! Another one that's been floating around is "Honey Bee Insurance". Don't know how it got labeled like that, but it's really a disaster relief bill for all agricultural workers, be they Bee-Keepers or Soybean farmers.
And Meg, yes, I think we're really starting to get somewhere. I used to play outside, and no matter what, no matter how alone we thought we were, my folks or somebody's folks always seemed to know what was going on outside. I think a lot (NOT ALL) of parents don't really want to be parents. They had kids because it was "what you do", or more than likely didn't plan accordingly whilst knocking boots, and now they want the volleyball coach and the soccer coach and the scout leader and the youth group and the Xbox and the TV to take care of their kids. Many modern parents let everybody else raise their kids.
