I sure as hell hope that I don't have to choose between Nine Inch Nails, The Mars Volta, and SuperJam.
The latenight predictions for Bonnaroo 2009 are making me a wreck as the top two bands that I'm looking forward to seeing are NIN and The Mars Volta.
It reminds me of last year when I kept running back and forth between My Morning Jacket and Superjam (while missing Howling Rain and MSTRKRFT). Oh well, I'll love Bonnaroo regardless, but I really wanted to catch the sets of Nine Inch Nails and The Mars Volta (not to mention that Ben Harper was very high on my list to see)...
I think if Mars Volta is latenight they will start at 12:00 and NIN wont start until around 2:00. There might be a little bit of overlap but you should be able to see a large chunk of both sets. Im with you on probably missing Superjam, with so many great acts on the farm this year im sure its going to be killer but such is Bonnaroo life, sometimes you have to make sacrifices.
I am hoping for a Yeah Yeah Yeahs late night on Friday.
I dont think it would happen but if it did I would be pretty mad because I would have to skip them for late night Phish.
Yeah never got into Phish myself. Hoping for something worhtwhile going on for my personal tastes Friday evening and that would do the trick. They are also about the same spot on the lineup as Sigur Ros last year. Wishful thinking probably more than likely but one can dream.
hey sangreal thanks for putting the girl talk link up there. I just realized how much I loved his set at roo in 07. Now I'm just afraid of missing something amazing at the phish show! lol I love how bonnaroo is putting real rap groups this year its so exciting. I have listened to the beastie boys, snoop, and public enemy since I was a little way before I discovered jam bands. So this is gonna be an amazing weekend for me!
Okay, I'm just trying to understand what you mean by this. Do you think rap groups from the 80s/90s are the only 'real' ones? I'm not sure what you mean by 'real' but I would say that they had legitimate quality rap groups last year with Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, and Chali 2na. Just because they are recent/semi-recent artists doesn't mean they aren't as legit.
No what im saying is there really upping their game considering they went from kanye the D.B. to snoop, the beasties and P.E. I'd say thats one hell of an upgrade in 1 year!
Yeah I gotta agree too. Kweli and Lupe are the shit, and I enjoyed every minute of Kanye last year. It was just the late arrival and 1 hour set that made it so disappointing, but I would also take last year's hip hop lineup over this year's every time.
I am hoping for a Yeah Yeah Yeahs late night on Friday.
that would be awesome. i would definitely be there instead of phish. maybe they would pair them up with tv on the radio.
That would be awesome. I must say though I'd have to go to Phish (never seen them) and therefore would be pretty disappointed. So far it looks like Friday preheadliner will be my toughest decision. The late night's are all awesome too but I have to go to Phish on that one.

No matter how you slice up Fridays late night, it's going to be a clusterfuck of conflicts. Not looking forward to choosing between some of the shows going on.
That's what I was thinking right off the bat but now I'm thinking I should listen to Ani DiFranco and Bon Iver (probably going to be Friday I think) before I make up my mind. I've already come to the conclusion that I'd be pick David Byrne over Galactic and Erykah Badu but I think Bon Iver or Ani DiFranco might change my mind. I am planning to go to as many full sets I can (so i'm probably going to be scheduling with that in mind) and I plan on seeing Yeah Yeah Yeahs that day for sure.
David Byrne is definately awesome no doubt about it but I think I might enjoy something that's somewhat a mystery to me. The whole rationale for going to festivals for me is to check out music I would never pay to go see by its self.
**By the way, that ("Little Bird") is probably my favorite White Stripes song. Anything of De Stijl or the self title is awesome.
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned in this thread, but on MGMT's myspace, it lists 5pm on June 13 for their set. This isn't their default time either as there are a variety of times listed for their other appearances.

yeah I think we have been speculating that mgmt was going to be a latenight because of the message sangreal got that yeasayer was playing a midnight before them and now sangreal has gotten conflicting info from portugal the man saying yeasayer is on thursday. I would personally like to see mgmt at 5pm to keep the midnights less congested.

they have actually had 5 pm listed from the start. i don't know if it's the real time or not.
After a little bit of research, it looks like that's where I will be. I checked out AniDiFranco, wasn't really my thing. Galactic is sweet but, I'd much rather catch David Byrne or Bon Iver. Erykah is probably too late, I'd get a lame spot for Phish probably if I went.
I'm realistically hoping to catch Friday:
Okkervil River Toubab Krewe Yeah Yeah Yeahs Gomez Bon Iver or David Byrne (probably will go to Byrne because he is harder to catch on tour than Bon Iver).

Is there confirmation that Bon Iver is on Friday? Really hoping they are on Saturday or Sunday, Friday is already WAYYYYY to crowded for me.
Also why do you think you would have a lame spot for Phish if you saw Badu? I will probably see Badu and then make my way through the crowd during Beastie Boys. I dont want to be real close for Phish, just as long as I have a good view of the light show I will be happy.

i speculated that bon Iver might be saturday because he is touring with Elvis Perkins on 4 dates leading up to bonnaroo and Elvis is scheduled saturday, this is purely deductive logic, I am fairly certain that we can eliminate Bon playing on thursday though but I guess that is assumed.
