but what is so surprising is there are not any jam bands playing before them on sun. i guess phish is enough to keep all the jamband and phish heads there, so they figured they would try to keep everyone else around by putting some different kind of stuff on sun.
I always figured metal tent on sunday to keep those folks there the whole time. The jammers get phish on friday and sunday, and bluegrass and moe on saturday. Hip hoppers get thurday hip hop through Beasties on friday to Snoop and PE on sunday. It seems to me they are trying to make it more balanced in terms of genres throughout the fest.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

That makes a lot of sense. I never thought of it that way.

i agree. that seems to be what they are doing. breaking away from the formula a little bit. making the fest more balanced from start to finish.
I'm still expecting adds for dance/electronic acts for Saturday night, similar to Ghostland's set time last year. Seems like Friday has all the electronic/dance music stacked into that one late nite. I seriously doubt there would be no electronic music for the entirety of Saturday night (albeit NIN can be pretty electronic, but not dancy).
There might be no dance electronic acts on Friday because they had so many over the two nights last year. They might return to being more jam oriented this year. Also SuperJam could be somewhat danceable. No telling what that will be.
Also if the Dead Weather were to be added, does anyone have any idea when they could play? The only thing I could think of would be Saturday preheadliner, they'd probably end up bumping Elvis Costello to a tent or they'd have to juggle a lot of bands on Sunday. Maybe Public Enemy would be moved to a late night on Friday? I don't know, it just seems like too big a strech. Either way, I think Something Else lineup will come out April 22nd, and Cafe on May 20, Schedule May 21.
roo is really switching things up this year...curious to see how it all works out
How do we know they're switching anything up? All we have here is speculation - we have an idea when some bands might be playing, but that's about it. Aside from Phish getting a late night slot, nothing else has been officially confirmed by Bonnaroo. And as we've seen with Yeasayer, even reports directly from bands can be conflicting and misleading.
I don't think there's going to be anything fundamentally different about this year as opposed to last year or 2007.
true, I forgot about sites (and even the bands themselves) posting set times and whatnot, even though the schedule might not be finalized. I was mostly talking about them switching things up by (hypothetically) putting most of the bluegrass/jambands on sat. and the metal/rock bands on sunday. It makes sense for them to do it though..since phish is on sunday.

Bon Iver might be scheduled saturday since the 4 days leading up to bonnaroo he has dates with Elvis Perkins and Elvis is listed for saturday, just using deductive logic but you never know until we get a solid confirmed source.

my only conflict on that schedule is del mccoury vs snoop but since I just saw del mccoury at the opry ill be straight with seeing snoop. I also have a conflict with rodygab vs public enemy but im rodygab hands down!

I think we will see Bon Iver on Friday after Gomez. I kinda had a feeling that if Gomez wasn't Sunday, they'd be Friday in the Sanitgold, Grizzly Bear tent. I don't think Animal Collective will close the tent though. I think it's got to be Bon Iver (just makes sense overall). Not only that but, Crystal Castles and Animal Collective seem like a perfect pair for Late Night tent show (someone else mentioned that before).
If Galactic closed out the African tent and King Sunny Ade played Late Night with Femi Kuti, I think that's what it will be.
If MGMT were to be moved from the tentative late night slot, it would make pinning Super Jam down a lot easier.
If that ends being the case though, Sunday is short a band from the looks of it.

Seems odd not having a hip hop late night this year. I mean Public Enemy could be late night but I don't see it happening (need to fill a Sunday afternoon What Stage slot). I guess something had to go in order to get world music (Femi and King Sunny LN that I think will occur).

Yeah, that is the best so far, Sangreal. I still think AC and Crystal Castles will be together. Galactic doesn't make much sense with them compared to AC so I think Bon Iver will cover AC on Friday and Galactic closing the Other Tent.
The biggest question mark is Rapahel Saadiq. Maybe he will open the Which Stage on Sunday. Somewhat of a stretch but maybe. I can't see them announcing just Cage the Elephant as the final addition to the main stage lineup so we are either getting the Dead Weather (I think) or Raphael Saadiq is opening the Which Stage either Saturday or Sunday.
**I updated my mock to Raphael Saadiq opening the Which Stage Sunday if anyone wants to see how that would look. On a side note, that's really going to suck if that ends up being the case (I was really hoping to catch Grace Potter, Neko Case, and Snoop and if that's the case one of them isn't happening).
This article seems to indicate Roo isn't concerned about ticket sales so additions may be done, I'm still holding out hope for the Dead Weather though:

i have it like that because last year it was mstrkrft/disco biscuits. galactic told me they don't even know what time they're playing yet though, so who knows. anyway, i switched girl talk and crystal castles. how's that work for you?
updated mine on the first page. i think it's the best yet.
It does look good, good work on that.
One thing to think about - there's a dead spot from 9-10 Friday. If you look at past schedules, this doesn't typically happen (at least not planned). Last year they filled the Friday spot with Chris Rock, and the Saturday dead spot only happened because of Kanye's last second time slot change.
Heymann nice work, I think thats your best mock so far. Not much I would change, Im hoping the real schedule looks alot like your mock.
Sangreal good job on your mock as well although as Heymann has stated, I really think Animal Collective will be playing latenight. I think either Bon Iver will be playing the slot you currently have them in, or TV on the Radio will close that Tent. I know people dont think they will be in a tent but against David Byrne, Erykah Badu & Ani Defranco I think it would work out.
Also I dont know why you think an electronic act will lead into Galactic, im pretty sure that isnt going to happen. I think if Galactic is indeed playing a latenight they will be paired with Femi Kuti. Heymann is right Crystal Castles/Animal Collective late night makes alot of sense to me.
Though i tend to agree with most of Sangz mock over heymans i do agree about Animal Collective if only because i dont see them lining up against David Byrne. Even against Phish sounds more likely.

tried to fix that. i have which stage ending at 9:30 now. but now i have an empty slot again opening what stage.
I am loving sangreal's mock. Raphael Saadiq and of Montreal are the two I'm looking forward to the most so having them play one after another is SO perfect
So what is the general opnion, more additions or no more additions. From the looks of it if Rapahel Saadiq is on Thursday. They are still two slots open (one on Friday after Gomez or before BOH or Andrew Bird and the other slot is the Friday What Stage opener). If Public Enemy was a late night on the Which Stage Friday (unlikely I think), we'd have a total of three slots possible.
Anyone think we will get main stage additions and if so how many? Will it be like last year, three main stage additions and then all cafe?

hey sangreal thanks for putting the girl talk link up there. I just realized how much I loved his set at roo in 07. Now I'm just afraid of missing something amazing at the phish show! lol I love how bonnaroo is putting real rap groups this year its so exciting. I have listened to the beastie boys, snoop, and public enemy since I was a little way before I discovered jam bands. So this is gonna be an amazing weekend for me!

Okay, I'm just trying to understand what you mean by this. Do you think rap groups from the 80s/90s are the only 'real' ones? I'm not sure what you mean by 'real' but I would say that they had legitimate quality rap groups last year with Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, and Chali 2na. Just because they are recent/semi-recent artists doesn't mean they aren't as legit.
I sure as hell hope that I don't have to choose between Nine Inch Nails, The Mars Volta, and SuperJam.
The latenight predictions for Bonnaroo 2009 are making me a wreck as the top two bands that I'm looking forward to seeing are NIN and The Mars Volta.
It reminds me of last year when I kept running back and forth between My Morning Jacket and Superjam (while missing Howling Rain and MSTRKRFT). Oh well, I'll love Bonnaroo regardless, but I really wanted to catch the sets of Nine Inch Nails and The Mars Volta (not to mention that Ben Harper was very high on my list to see)...
