any on plan on bringing and utilizing their gps units at bonnaroo?i plan on marking my campsite,closest toilets and water stations,plus anything i find in centeroo that i may need to find again,like merch tents,food vendors,toilets,water,stages,and other stuff.plus if other people in your crew have oine,they make fro hassel free meetups.we all could even post a new thread with our phone numbers and if we ever want to meet up with each other,just text coordinates and wal straight to the location.

Hey - if it works for you - then it works and that is great - I just don't want to have to keep up with another electronic gadget - phone and camera are enough for me.

I used GPS to get from Boston to Bonnaroo. Never thought to mark my campsite (didn't know this was possible). Saturday night it took me at least 2 and a half hours to get from the Silent Disco to my campsite.

I have GPS on my BlackBerry, but that will definitely be staying in the car all weekend, after I lost my phone the first night last year. However it's all a bit of an overkill. Last year we were parked right off the main road and my friend had a big, yellow, 50s Ford SUV that I couldn't miss if I tried; not to mention portajons all over the place.
I have a Garmin 305 that I use on my mountainbike. I plan on bringing it, not to find my car or mark the portos or whatever, but to find out how far I actually walk each day. Last year I was in BFE sector 9, a 45+ minute stroll to Centeroo. 2 miles? 2 miles each wayX 5 round trips a day X 4 days = 80 miles of getting back and forth, not even including actually being IN Centeroo.... I would love to have an accurate count.

one person in our group always brings his and carry's it everywhere. I made fun of him for bringing it citing "the fun is in the wandering" logic. Well, after Sasha and Digweed in '07 I could not get my bearings, I had lost the group and could not find my way back to camp for a couple hours. I would have given anything to have that gps, that morning when I was wore out.

I like a couple others love the technology, but I am trying to keep my brain functioning and always study maps, pictures, etc to learn where I am going.
Now the image in my minds eye is of a couple drunk, wasted, altered people trying to figure out where they are camped with a GPS unit. Getting more distracted by arrows and colors, than actually receiving the information on the GPS into their brains......
Sometimes fun to watch adults wondering around dazed and confused trying to rely on technology. Make sure you mark all the fences on the property, wouldn't want to see someone standing on one side of the fence with the GPS unit telling them that they need to walk through the fence to get to the camp.
Yes, I got lost terribly in the campground friday morning because i slept at some random site Thursday night... spent over 2 hours walking through spots seeing if I could find a phone charger

I can not imagine what would be in a Bonnaroo geocache, actually I can but I am not allowed to talk about it on this board ;d
gps is great, our first year going we didnt even have directions we just used a regular map coming from nyc it was pretty interesting, not really too hard haha but we made it alright and found some really cool spots on the way down.
What do you type in on the GPS to get to the camp? just curious?
you just save your present location as a way point and when you need to find it again you just pull it up on ur favorites or saved locations or whatever depending on your unit and hit go and it will show you the shortest rout.as for meeting up with friends via coordinates,the findee will need to text their coordinates to the finder,and the finder plugs those coords into their unit and off they go.
I think the big difference here is what kind of GPS you have. A Nuvi (driving type) would not be the best to walk around with. You would need a hiking/biking type, like a Garmin GPSmap 60scx.
I think it would be fun to have it track your steps during the day to see how far you walk. Then download it to a computer.

Well, after reading this thread, although I've never owned or used a gps unit, I think I'll consider getting one before June. Although I do have somewhat of a brain, it doesn't always seem to function properly in TN in June, esp. Sunday nights for some reason. Also, it would be fun to be able to know how far I walk while there and be able to find my way back to different spots in the campgrounds more easily.
