I really really need to get back on track, but renovating a house, moving, plus full time job is not conducive to eating well and exercising..... Plus I have been drinking more than usual due to extreme stress....... At this point I need to lose 15 lbs before the end of May for my trip to Italy and of course for Bonnaroo right after. I am now 140lbs which is the heaviest I've ever been. I know that does not sound overweight to some, but I have a small frame and should be around 125lbs. Plus none of my clothes fit, which is unacceptable!
Once we are in our new house next week, I plan to cook more with our new gas stove, and not eat out so much and get on that elliptical at least 3 times a week for 45 minutes. I NEED to do this and must push myself, but I know that projects around the house are going to side-track me, I will get tired and not work out It's so hard to get motivated when there is so much going on.
I've never really been over weight, but I had noticed the slow progression of a beer belly after my lack of interest in exercising. I think k made it up to 220lbs, which is about 15 lbs more then my normal weight. (6'4").
What worked wonders for me was cutting red meat out of my diet almost completely. If there was a chicken of fish option, that's what I ate, for three months. I literally lost 15lbs. Lord knows what would have happened if I'd had kept going. I always gain. About 10lbs during the winter, simply from lack of movement. This year I'm not so sure, since I'm no longer working outdoors but have a mainly desk job now. So I may go on my red meat be gone diet again myself before June.
Memphis , you may be right! Find something you're comfortable with that works for you and keep at it. Every little bit helps you enjoy the fest a little more,
memphis1979, whereas cutting out red meat would do nothing for me as I only eat it once every few months anyways, you've got a good point. Most people who aren't happy with their size can probably find one major food/beverage that is a major cause of their worries. For me, it's simple carbs. When I cut out/ limit my starchy items, I can see the pounds melt away. Weeks that I don't progress to my goal, I can look back to the pizza, the sandwich, the crackers... A year ago, Scrog dropped 10-15 right away from cutting out soda. We all have our demons. Find them and kick them in the butt!
Today is my weigh in day, but because of the snow, the meeting is cancelled. I didn't go last week because I was "sick" cough cough (aka I sat in bed watching the The Wire healthy as a clam). I am partly relieved because it's been a bad week. I am also partly disappointed, because sometimes seeing that gain can kick me back into shape mentally.
dreamingtree, you've had a busy and stressful go of it lately, but your floors look AAAAAMAZING! You'll get back to it. I have faith in you!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I haven't seen this number on the scales in a long time. Isn't it sad it took me five years to lose the baby weight from my last kid.
I couldn't have done it without the encouragement from people here, MyFitnessPal app, & getting back into an exercise routine. I can't wait for Daylight Savings Time to begin so I can get out & run during the week.

You got this! Don't let up! Daylight savings is almost here!
My RTO from lifting seems to have me in this massive slump. I hit the cardio hard on Monday and Tuesday, but I've been bumming it since...Starting my next routine Monday, 12 fun filled weeks of picking up heavy shit and putting it back down!
What up my fat ass friends trying to get fit? As a fat ass I can say that, well kind of. My ass is not that fat anymore. I have lost almost 15 pounds this go around. My diet is good! No bread, pasta, rice or any "whites". No fast food, no SODA (which is big for me) and NO DESSERTS! I feel better. I have more energy. I did chest compression the other day for a straight 10 minutes and I was not out of breath. Let me tell you, repeatedly pushing on someone chest hard enough to squeeze their heart is a workout. Speaking of a workout. That is where I am slacking. I hate to workout. I hate running. A marathon is my year end goal, but I got to find some motivation to workout.
I love reading these stories. KEEP IT UP! Nice work everyone!
Today is 7 days since I quit smoking. I spent 45 minutes on the elliptical last night, and I finally feel like I'm in a rhythm I can maintain. I had some motivational set backs getting started, but it's on now! Just itchin to get off work and jump back on. Illmatic is a pretty great album to keep a steady pace and control my heart rate. I always find my self wanting to push the tempo and go harder. Nas keeps my ass in check! Keep it up guys!!!

Congratulations on quiting smoking tobacco (I assume).
It was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but its been 10 years gone by now. And it saves a lot of money. Stick with it, I find the habit was worse then the withdrawals, but I fidgit, so maybe that was me.

Yeah, tobacco. The thing is, I have not had a beer or any alcohol since. That's gonna be the real test for me. I'm on the niccorette mints right now, and they don't taste very good with beer. but I can go a day or two and forget about them altogether. I just really enjoyed smoking, especially when I drink. I quit last year for 4 months, then cheated a bit at Roo, and went another 4 months after. I don't know if I will ever be one of those people who quit and never touch a smoke again. But I know I feel a lot better when I'm not smoking. If I can keep it to Bonnaroo and the casual cigarette here and there when I drink, and Only then, I'll be happy. But I'm probably just kidding myself. And yeah, pack of smokes costs $13.50 up here right now. I'll save a ton!

I wouldn't suggest it right away, but now I will puff on a fine cohiba or macanudo when Im doing serious drinking. I used to get the urge to grab a cigarette from a friend at the bar when I quit, and one day I picked up a cigar. I don't smoke them regularly, but they are a good substitute for the urge to smoke a cigarette while drinking for me. Of course I may have a left handed near by for the real emergencies.

Oh I'm with ya there. I've got a couple nice bottles of scotch that are great with a fat Cohiba. I'm with ya there. I was in Cuba for Christmas are really squired an application for a good cigar. Here's a question! Can I bring Cuban cigars to Bonnaroo? Or will I end up in a dark room in U.S customs at the airport. Lol

As long as you let me have one, I think you'll be OK with a Cuban coming in. Hell, if that's the most illegal thing you have in your possessed, you should be fine. I haven't had a real Cuban since I lived and worked in detroit.
I'm stuck with my chruchill Dominican Cubans. Here's hoping Castro dies before June.

Way to go! I haven't had a cigarette in over two years (jan9, 2011). Best decision my life. Are yuusing the patch or what it worked wonders for me. I smoked a pack a day every day for 15 years. You're the shizz!

Haha, thanks. I feel like a sell out. I really mean it when I say I loved smoking. My last stint I got into the menthols. Maybe 7-8 a day. The whole idea of smoking menthols was that when I quit, I'd ween off with the Nicorette mints. Basically a tic tac with nicotine. It was a pretty smooth transition, I've probably only had 9-10 since I quit. I guess I started smoking for real when I was 17, and have been off and on for the past 2 years. My lady won't put up with me going back to it this time, so ive said my good byes, for the most part anyway.
I loved it too. Maybe not smoking but being a smoker, you know. I still want one seeing people smoke once in a while but it passes. After I quit I found half a pack in my couch like a week into it. I left me there so I could laugh at them and say no to them.

Now this sounds like me. I'm good as long as I'm not drinking or around smokers. I'm trying to decide whether to bring cigs to Roo and use them as a reward/treat and then leave it there.
If you can get your hands on a disposable ecig I recommend them highly. It's the only way for me to go to shows locally and not be mooching when I've got a drink. My favorite is called an Njoy which does one hell of a job simulating a real smoke, good draw, looks like a smoke and not a laser pointer, good feel. etc. Here in the states they run between 8-10 dollars each.
So I "went off the diet" two weeks ago so I could indulge a bit for my son's birthday and then I had the damn leg injury so I couldn't exercise.
So I weighed in today for the first time in 2 weeks. The news is bad, really bad! I've gained back six pounds in two weeks half of what it took me six weeks to lose! Y'all my first kid weighed six pounds So it's back on the plan Monday and hope it works.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Back to the gym today! Is it possible to want and not want something at the same time? That's how I feel about the gym today! Also pizza last night late skipping breakfast this morning I guess

Hey, Kat...
Don't stress out too much over fluctuations on the scale. I weigh in at around 155 to 160, and my body weight fluctuates something like 3-5 pounds in a normal day. Totally normal due to digestion, water retention, etc. A better gauge of whether you're making progress is once a week to put a measuring tape around your middle at your belly button. As long as that measurement is decreasing, you're doing the right things, and the scale be damned.
Edit: oh, and a cheat meal every once in a while isn't going to set you back to any significant degree. It can be a good thing, actually...keeps your thyroid happy so your metabolism doesn't crash out on you and stall your fat loss.

It's monday everybody back on the grind! If you're trying to lose weight, and are looking for a change of pace, try circuit lifting instead of cardio. IMO, it's the most effective way to lose fat and gain some muscle. And gaining muscle is a very underrated part of losing weight.
Boneroo- I quit cigs for my New Years resolution over a year ago. It was an amazing decision. When I drink, I just grab myself a tasty cigar.

My usual gym routine is both cardio and weights/ other (balls, etc).. buuuut I haven't been to the gym since November. It's been put off mostly because I was working overtime for so long, but I've been off of it for 3 weeks now... BONNIE, GO TO THE GYM. And it's 60 bucks/ months, so a lot of money going to waste right now. The time change is not going to help me get up in the AM either.

I'm officially hardcore plateaued. My body LOVES this weight...sadly I disagree! Can't really clean up my diet any more, so ramping up the circuits to 3x a week and going to start intermittent fasting next week. We shall see...

Also, anybody do EPA/DHA supplementation to help your cortisol? Did it work? I am a super high stress type A person and I think that cortisol stymies my weight loss quite a bit (esp the closer I get to my goal weight). I can't eliminate my biggest stressor for another two weeks (freelance gig I got suckered into) so I'm hoping supplementing with a good quality fish oil will help support me in the meantime. I'd rather just eat fish, but as a New Englander, I just can't stomach the landlocked fish you can find out here... yuuuuck. Everything smells spoiled, even the Whole Foods stuff. Everyone here thinks I'm a freaking princess, I don't blame em!
I did finally find a fish oil supplement that didn't stink, Nordic Naturals is mercury tested and treated with lemon so you don't get the nasty taste.

Also playing with the timing of when you eat certain foods can help get you out of a plateau (or so they say). For example, if your breakfast is always heavy in the protein, try going heavy fruit instead.
