Every year, i want to lose the winter weight that i put on before Roo, but the past couple of years, ive either started too late, or it has been harder than years prior to get rid of it. I definatly have more extra weight this year than years prior. I really want to lose 30 pound from now till june. I'm 6'1 and breakin around 250. Id love to be back down to 200, but 50 lbs is really an unattainable an unheathly goal for 4 months if i start now right?
Thing is, i think i eat pretty much ok through out the day. Very balanced meals lots of fruits and veggies and all the good stuff, but when night time comes, i enjoy a few beers, perhaps some vodka and i havent been exercising. With my eating habits, if i add the exercising, and cut out some of the alcohol, does anyone think 30 pounds is attainable?
Anyone else in simular situations or have simular goals . .. perhaps some tips?
^^^I think 30 lbs is attainable if you add in the exercising. I joined the gym 2 weeks ago and am trying to get there at least 3-4 times a week. I am also like you - I eat find during the day - it it nighttime that gets me.

Definitely! Alcohol (beer esp) is a main contributor to a lot of people's battles with weight who eat semi healthy anyway. Exercise will definitely kick start things. Just don't get overwhelmed with the pressure of 4 months. Everyone's bodies are different so you might be surprised how fast it falls off. In retrospective, it could take longer for your body to realize what's up. I've lost an exceptional amount of weight within the past 8 months (don't have an exact number because I don't use scales.) But I'm mainly happy because I feel SO much better and things are tighter and whatnot.

My goal is to loose at least 15 pounds. The wii fit is helping a little. But i think i'm going to start utilizing a daily 'corn'+Ipod+bike ride' routine.

I would love to join a gym, but there isnt one near my house, and id have to drive like 15 minutes to get to one. I guess thats not too bad though. And i LOVE beer . . . . mmm i love it, but i could save it for the weekends. Thing is, i dont drink the cheap beer, i drink good beer, most likely with lots of calories . . . ..i need to, like Joey from Full House used to say, Cut It Out!

Yeah, I've heard from multiple people biking is reallllllly good for weight loss. I bike for fun but I'm awfully clumsy so i think I'll stick to it just for fun.

Ha, yeah, same here. And I love trying new beer, I'm a beer gal. But man oh man it's soooo fattening. You could stick to your regular routine if you killed yourself in the gym 3-4 times a week, but I would probably say cut it down gradually. Oh it hurts, I know it hurts, but just think of the bigger picture

Me too, trying new beer is a fun game i enjoy. But, id rather walk around Roo with 30 less pounds
2 lbs a week is healthy weight loss... anything too much over that begins to get unhealthy and you will be more likely to gain it back. So 30 lbs in 4 months is doable as long as you start right now and stay at it.
I've lost 40 lbs since last years roo but I tend to lose about a pound a week on average.
i personally think you might have to do more than just cut out the all the alchohol and start exersizing to lose that much in that little time though. then again, i dont know how much alchohol you consume
I thought I ate pretty well before but I had to totally change my entire lifestyle to start losing a large amount of weight.
everyones body is different though, so just start now and see how it goes... and make adjustments if you need to
Hey Mike. I'm too lazy to look it up, but I think you were my quitting smoking buddy in one of these threads three years ago! I'm tabacco free for three years and venting in the Inforoo thread was a HUGE part of quitting for me.
...Then I put on 35 extra pounds that I am now trying to lose.
I was up to 270+ on new years and am down to 250 now. 235 is the best I've been in the last decade and I'm looking to go through that and get to 220, so for me I think 50 lbs in 5 months is doable.
The two things you should think about are calories and excercise. Figure out the calories you consume in your nightly beverages and add up how many you consume in a day. Get it down to a reasonable target. I'm a big guy who is used to eating HORRIBLY, so staying in the 1000-2000 calories a day range works for me. Of course the kind of calories matters, but it sounds like you have that covered. You might find to get reasonable with your calories you shouldn't drink every day or drink only one. Once or twice a week I probably blow through that with beer alone, but otherwise I stick to that and get regular, varied excercise (walking, elliptical or yoga).
I've also find getting a good nights sleep and going to bed at a reasonable time at least every other day helps me a lot.
My ultimate goal is to lose 120lbs, but I hope to do 20 or 30 of it before Bonnaroo for sure. It's not for looks at all, I want the stamina to be able to party the night away!

Congrats on staying smoke free. I dont smoke anymore, but i do have an occasional cigarette out with friends, and oddly enough, i'm able to do that without going out and buying a pack.
Its definatly the beer and the non exercise is whats holding me back. I could get up in the morning and run, but for some reason thats not enough motivation. If I had a gym membership, i think id be more productive and motivated. I'm already looking one up right now. Retro Fitness, 19.99 a month!!
Again, i think i eat pretty good on a daily basis, especially during the week. Probably around 1800 calories of food, and the beer is where the rest comes in. I dont even want to look up the beer calories!
B-Fast (9:30/10ish)- Cheerios, Banana Snack (130/2ish)- Fruit, some triscuits Dinner (4/430ish) - Baked Chicken Breast (maybe a Pork Chop every third week a couple times), 2 different Veggies Snack (630/7ish) - Fruit, some triscuits Supper (9ish) - Turkey and Cheese sandwich, one or 2 veggies After that - Beer, maybe some vodka, maybe some munchie food. Ideal is the Yogurt and granola i buy myself, but the alcohol makes me want to eat bad.
See its the night time that gets me, along with the no exercise.
I don't see how you can get through the day without eating protein until dinner time. Protein is what keeps you full and gives you energy. Maybe if you add more of that to your diet you won't binge when nighttime comes around. It may also be the fact that you're eating so light at the begininning of the day. By the time evening comes your body may be starving.
Mike - part of the other problem I see with your schedule is you eating so late - what time do you hit the bed - you have togive yourself enough time to work off what you ate - if you are going to bed at 11 p.m. after eating at 9 p.m. - that is not good - you should wake up hungry in the morning - not starving - but hungry when you wake up
well i work 1145 - 8p, and go to bed around 1. My schedule is a little off.
ahhh - as long as you are not going to bed within a couple of hours after eating - for someone like me - with a normal 8-5 schedule - I am not supposed to eat after 8 pm.
also - more protein, lower carbs helps too. Protein is better energy. It lasts long and keeps you going
I think I'm in the same boat, for different reasons. My 10-year high school reunion is coming up, probably the weekend before Bonnaroo. I'm currently about 15lbs below my graduating weight, so I've met one goal. I still wouldn't mind losing more.
I'm going to have to second the Wii Fit suggestion. It's easy to slack on exercise because of the weather outside, at least where I'm at. It's kind of helpful having some exercise equipment in the house, staring at me asking to be used.
I'm also going to second eating more earlier in the day. Space out the eating. Taking in most of your calories for the day in one meal, especially if it's late, can come back to bite you in the ass with diabetes if you do it enough.
As for the beer, you might be better off switching to liquor drinks - unless you really, really want to stick with MGD64 or something like that.
Is it a bad thing to go over the daily recommended alowance of protein? I think its like 15%
Protein is the best kind of energy that you can get, so not really. But you do still need to have some fat and carbs in your diet. It can't just be all protein. But no, the daily recommended allowance is just for the idea of an "average"....which no one actually fits into.
But the energy from the protein, if you're working out will help you burn more fat than say if you had a meal that was mostly carbs or high in fat.

Cool. What if more protein comes after you work out? Like my workout time will be in the AM most days, and 2 meals are after the workout.
if you were a bodybuilder, you would be eating a gram of protein for every pound you weigh. so no, you really can't overdo it on the protein. that 15% thing is for the birds...
although I am not even remotely close to a bodybuilder, i do eat a lot of protein since it makes me feel healthier. my current regimen is a protein bar for breakfast, a yummy protein shake for lunch (with fruit and yogurt), some fruit before the gym, then dinner with some kind of meat - at least, usually. i used to eat tofu and tempeh, but im a little hesitant to eat lots of soy protein with my thyroid condition.
my shake alone is about 40something grams of protein. the bar i had this morning was 32, and with dinner probably another 30 or so... you really cant get enough. and post workout is an excellent time to have some protein.
but like everyone said - eat often and healthy, don't eat late, avoid those big beers (okay, i break down on the weekends too), drink lots of water, exercise... are you doing only cardio or weights and cardio? do you mix up your cardio routine?
i recommend buying some whey powder. ever try it? its very healthy, tasty, and nutritious.
well, i joined the Gym today! I plan on just doing cardio for now and im definatly going to mix up the cardio routine, and then adding in some weights after i loose some of the extra pounds.

Good job....I start my Roo weight loss conditioning Monday. I am so horribly out of shape right now.
It was 119 down and 19.99 a month. My work will reinburse me for it. Nice little benefit we have where i work.
This gym is nice, basically brand new, lots of machines. There is even a theater .. . .its a darkened room with a bunch of cardio equipment set up like a movie theater, and it has a huge movie screen with surround sound . . . . . and ceiling fans! Superbad was playing today.
