Just popping in to gain some sort of accountability for myself.
For me, January is dedicated to ZERO alcohol and drinking only water and herbal tea. I feel like that's an easy start to getting my weight and health in order before June. Next month I'll attempt to cut out sugar and dairy. I'll be in this thread more often then because sugar is definitely my drug of choice.
I've stopped using a scale personally. I like to track my progress by the way my clothes fit. I know I have a pair of shorts that I would LOVE to fit into by summer!
That's what I'm doing too! I have no idea how much I weigh now, or how much weight I've lost. I haven't stepped on a scale in years (except at the doctor's office, haha). I have a pair of pants that are my next goal... I'd love to fit in to them by April!
I have finally weaned myself off lattes for breakfast and I'm back to black coffee! And I finally feel comfortable really pushing my body again and letting myself feel uncomfortable to push through it. I skipped yesterday cause it was a motherflippin' 2 degrees out and I didn't want to brush off my car in that. Ugh. So I will work a little harder today.
I love checking in on here. Definitely motivates me!

Once you make it a habit it becomes easy, if you get past the initial cutting out of all the stuff you don't any more then its all easy from there.
I need to be in here more often... but the Cuban lunch I had yesterday (FO FREE) and the pasta bolognese that I had for dinner doesn't make for good Get Fit posts. Sigh.
And the sad thing is, I can't even say, "today is a new day!" It'll be Cuban leftovers again. It's our busy season aka no lunch break and I have to eat what is here.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

OMG I feel you, how do I tell my nine year old Mommy's not going to buy Girl Scout cookies...soon

I would have such a hard time passing all that up!
I'm determined to get in better shape. If I can only get my lazy, unmotivated ass to agree to it. One of my friends is hooking me up with this system she's had success with. It's only a 24 day thing, so my hope is to stick with that for the 24 days and get into the habit of making smarter choices when I eat. I'm a carb fiend, though so that's going to be the tough part.
My biggest excuse is having a house of 5, with 3 of them being 10 years old who are little for their age, so actually need to bulk up. It's really hard to not have the things they like and eat in the house, so I can't clear the house of stuff I shouldn't have. I need a snack shock collar.

That's called being a "momivore" where you eat whatever your kids eat. I feel ya sister!
I think for my family the key is a lot of lean protein, fruits and vegetables. When we do carbs it has to be whole wheat and whole grain.

So I packed my workout clothes in the same back that I put my salad in today when I was leaving for work. Just realized there is dressing all over my shirt (going to the gym over lunch). I guess smelling like salad dressing will motivate me to work out? This would normally be an excuse for me not to go...but not anymore! Guess I'll just smell like a yummy greek salad while at the gym.

I've been doing really well for the past 2 weeks. Working out, eating very healthy and sticking to everything, other than not drinking alcohol.... But I am losing weight slowly so I'm not giving that up unless it's a last resort!!
See, the not drinking alcohol part is tough. Not that I drink a lot, but I do enjoy a drink in the evenings.
One glass of wine has to better than a bowl of ice cream? Right?
So, two glasses of wine is better than two bowls of ice cream? If so, I like your math; now I just need to find time to work out when its -10 degrees for the next two months. I find it a lot easier to just go outside than drag my self to a gym before or after work - but that becomes less easy when I need to put on more layers than the Ralphie's little brother from 'A Christmas Story'.
I know the feeling of defeat when you expect the numbers to go down but all that work certainly paid off. Try keeping track of body measurements instead of weight cause it is definitely true that muscle gain will throw your weight around. Free yourself of that if you can! And great job on those workouts. I'm jealous!
Great point about measurements, I need to start doing that again!! You are so right...I went from a 18.5" calf to a 15" calf measurement during my last round of fat cutting and lost like 5lbs during that period (which is insane, but I was shopping for boots at the time and was pumped!).
Got two cardio/weights workouts in this week already, Zumba tomorrow, trying to do weights/cardio Thurs and Fri, then a big winter hike with the Parks Conservancy on Saturday, and yoga again on Sunday...and DOMS is retreating... ROWR!
Anybody have a recommendation for a soy-free, wheat-free, gluten free protein powder that can be mixed with water and doesn't taste like absolute butt? Needs to be low carb/low cal as well. I'm suffering thru some packets of Vega Sport right now and it makes me feel good but zomg does it taste like old catchers' mitts...
I have been looking for this post! I couldn't remember who was looking for the protein powder! A friend of my is in love with this vegan supplement line. I saw the picture of the protein powder and remembered someone was looking for something similar! I hope this helps!

with football in playoff/sb part of the season and college bball just hitting its stride, i have a really hard time watching in social settings but not drinking, not to mention not eating all kinds of beer bread, cheese dips, sausage whatevers, etc.
i have had a couple beers in the past few weeks, but i've tried to limit them to a couple cheat days and have done ok.
one thing i cannot get over is chocolate. i bought a pack of the super mini size dark chocolate things and have been only eating one every night or so. on one hand, i feel like i'm taking a step back in doing that, but otoh, if i'm really doing this for the long haul, it's just not realistic for me to live without any chocolate. it would make me really unhappy.
i was debating the gym last thursday and a friend of mine said "i can't even do that. i know i am going to work out every day, so it's not a decision." i'm trying to approach it that way - not as a decision that i can punk out on, but as a given, part of my routine.
THIS! I view going to the gym the same way I view going to work. Many days, I don't feel like going but I still go. Why? I go to work because I need money, and I go to the gym because I am working toward something greater. Some days I don't work as hard as other days, but even a little something is better than nothing.
Whoever was talking about not giving up chocolate, you shouldn't have to! A healthy lifestyle isn't necessarily about cutting out everything bad for you; it's about moderation. For example: I had a cheeseburger and chocolate pie last night! I'm not going to eat that every day, because I know it won't help me reach my goal, but I'm not going to deprive myself either. I love food too much!

Re: everyone's attempts to cut out alcohol...I feel you. Oh god do I feel you. I have traditionally enjoyed 2-3 ciders after work every night, for YEARS. But man, it was murdering my ability to get up and work out in the morning. So I went on a strict 'no booze Mon-Thurs' rule starting Jan 1. Soon to be extended to Sun-Thurs. It was tough the first week (I really looked forward to those ciders!!) but at this point its easy. And man, cutting out the booze has really improved my macros, I'm consistently 60-80g of carbs/day which is the sweet spot for me. And my alcohol tolerance has plummeted to the point where I just buy one or two really nice bottles of wine to enjoy on the weekend and its MORE than enough...and its saving me money. So hang in there, it can be done and it gets easier!!

Two more pounds down this morning. That's 8 so far this month. WHOOP WHOOP!!! Managed M/T/F cardio/weight workouts, Zumba Weds and will do yoga Sunday morning (really looking forward to that now!) Decided to make Thurs and Sat rest days. I would prefer to workout every day but if I'm being honest, it doesn't feel very good...I get that 'bonk' feeling. Something to shoot for...
I've been doing good with my workouts, but not so great with my food. I've been hungrier than normal lately. Having a salad today though!
This weekend I went out with a friend and I was able to wear a coat that I bought several years ago but never really wore because I couldn't get it buttoned. It buttoned! It's the small things that keep me going

What does this taste like?
Well, I didn't find this one at Whole Foods, but I did find one called Plant Fusion that has almost the same packaging and actually tastes not terrible!!! The vanilla one kinda tastes like strawberry milk or something. Not my favorite flavor in the world, but not the old boiled shoes flavor of my last couple brands....
As of Saturday I'm down 9lbs since Jan 1. One lb came back this morning but I'm sure its water, as I nommed the crap out of some salty olives last night. Got a Jawbone (gift from a friend who wasn't using it) and was intrigued to see that I walk 5000 steps before 10am during the week. Better than I expected. I don't like the way it tracks my food though... I'll stick with FitDay for that.
