Speaking of motivation, some of the best I've heard that pertains to running (but it can really be applied to so many things) is "sometimes the hardest steps are the ones you take to put your shoes on"....just making yourself do something is a battle, but if you can win that battle then you're good.
Haha sorry to keep lecturing or whatever but I have another method to help with this... Just count to 5 and do it! It sounds silly but it really works. If I find myself not wanting to go out and run or get down to the gym or something I simply tell myself "on the count of 5 I'm going to get up, put my shoes on, and walk out the door" and somehow it works!
About a year ago, I discovered Eric Thomas...the dude Disclosure sampled on "When a Fire Starts To Burn." He has many videos on YouTube that make you just want to conquer the world. So between listening to that song a lot lately, and this thread, I'm getting my butt back to the gym tonight!
Okay here are my random tips for motivating myself since we all ride the struggle bus on this one sometimes and everyone's different with what works. Maybe you will like one of these options?
- I like to look through IG accounts of fitness people - you think it would be depressing looking at super fit people but it's not to me because you see their meals and workouts and how they are working their butts off to look that way.
- I do things I truly enjoy. You won't see me trying to run because I hate it like none other. I like lifting heavy weights, swimming, long walks outside, and the stair mill if I have to do cardio on a machine. pick something you enjoy and it won't be that hard to want to do it
- Youtube. bigjsextremefitness, PoG, CT Fletcher, hodge twins, nikki blackketter, karaleigh, tone it up and more. if I watch these videos right before a workout I'm pretty much good to go.
- on super awful days - like the very worst of the worst days - I take pre-workout. I don't suggest taking it very often but it literally forces you to workout unless you just want to be a tingling/itchy mess from beta alanine lol. obviously this isn't for those of you who decided to give up caffeine.
- and like what they said above and to quote nike - just do it. count to five, put those shoes on, take the first step...sometimes I convince myself to put on my workout clothes, go downstairs (I have a home gym) and I just dilly dally around until motivation strikes and it always does once I'm down there.
- for eating, I'm one of those super annoying people who takes pictures of their food. for whatever reason it just forces me to be accountable, make my food all pretty (we eat with our eyes first), and cook healthier. people might laugh but you gotta do whatever works.

I've been slacking the past week and have not gained, but I haven't lost either. I am going to Asheville on Thursday for a long weekend, and I plan on eating out a lot, but we are also going to hike, so it may all even out...... I hope!

oh snap you guys
went to the gym over lunch and while i've spent the last two weeks doing paleo, i had a ski weekend with friends and have been eating whatever the hell i want since saturday. i was struggling to the point i made an unnecessary trip to the water fountain just to give myself a break. while i was walking over to fill my bottle, Rocket Man started playing, which is so weird because our gym is always playing katy perry and shit.
gave me that little reminder boost and i grinded (pretty pathetically) through the rest of my workout, but made it. thanks elton!

When will people realize that talking crap about skinny people is just as bad as talking crap about fat people? People of all shapes and sizes can have issues with their body and hearing "you need to eat more" doesn't help. I appreciate the sentiment, but no I don't want to be 'fattened up' and I'd appreciate it if you didn't make fun of me for bringing a food scale to weigh my food. I'm plenty healthy and I know what I'm doing in regards to diet and exercise. There's a reason why all my family is overweight and I'm not... I don't really want to join them either.
Sorry. That's my rant for the day. Visiting family you don't see often can be really rough.

I am so glad this thread was linked in another thread or I probably wouldn't have found it! I'm going to join this. Bonnaroo has been one of my biggest motivations in my journey to lose weight, get fit and be healthy. Since February 4th, I'm down 15.8 lbs and 10 inches off my waist. I'm excited to share and encourage with all of you!

Indeed. It's pretty bad down here as well. When I first came back after losing weight my sister cried when she saw me because she thought I was sick. She didn't see the hard work I put in and I've noticed that if you lose weight a lot of people just think you're dying. They usually say 'they lost TOO much' or 'I hope they're not too sick' and it's a shame. Here in the south especially. My mom thought I was starving myself until she saw how much I was eating. I'm constantly munching on almonds and snap peas throughout my day.
Anyways I'm in the best place I've been in a while. I'm eating better and working out more often. It's been 2 weeks since I cut out sweets and my mood is a lot better than it was those first four days. Today was my first time working out before work at this particular job and I enjoyed it. Plus having the gym to yourself at 5am is always nice.
Very stressful past week... and my eating and working out have both suffered. It will probably be next week before things are back to normal (fingers crossed) but I've got my salad today!
I did manage to get to the gym on Saturday. I've been going to the gym for almost 5 months now, and Saturday was the first time I had the thought "I'm so glad I worked out today; it feels so good!" I'm officially a workout weirdo.
I've been inspired by all the posts in here lately. Started another week with a positive attitude. Gym workouts have been so, so much better now that I've taken the focus off cardio and more on lifting. I love how strong I am and it makes running feel really great. Never again will I spend 45 mins on an elliptical! I don't know if I've really lost any weight. My abdomen swells up after my workouts and sometimes takes 24 hours to go back down. My surgeon said that could happen for another 6 months so I'll just have to be patient and believe in what I'm accomplishing.
Woo hoo, Jenny! It's amazing how much strength I've gained as well. In true cat lady fashion, I bought some cat litter yesterday, and I was able to pick up the 20lb container with no issues!

WHAT'S UP GUYS. I have been sticking with my diet pretty well and 3-5 workouts per week, but dayum my job is getting in the way. Fortunately I literally cannot summon the brainpower to work 60+ hours per week WITHOUT my morning workout, so that's motivation, even though getting out of bed post-daylight savings is a chore (the effing MOON was out when I went to work today...that ain't right!). Anyway, holding steady at 15lbs down but I would really really like to lose the last 20. I have lost over an inch in my waist though, even though my weight hasn't changed, so that's good. And my legs look boomin, if I do say so. But my body just reeeeeally likes to be this weight.
If it ever breaks 50 degrees before 6am here, I'll be on my new plan which is walking to work 3 miles each way, each day, on top of the 10k steps I walk normally, and Zumba and yoga. If that won't break this plateau nothing will. Now if this stupid winter would just end already....

YEAH!! GET IT, girls!!! I was helping my dude load his drums into our practice space the other day. He has a hardware bag that weighs 75lbs or so and a trap case that's 40ish. I threw both up on the loading dock (which is chest high) without thinking about it and his jaw fell on the floor. I didn't used to be able to even *move* the hardware bag. Being strong rocks!
Been off the wagon since last week due to family health issues. I can tell I've gained a few pounds back The good news is things should be calmer in the coming weeks so I can focus back on eating well and going to the gym every day.
Started doing Keto 3 weeks ago. It's been rough, cause I caught the spring flu last week and it's made my stomach feel really weird, but I've stuck it out so far. Down 20 lbs already. Keto works great for people like me but the cravings are ridiculous. I JUST WANT A BEER AND A SLICE OF PIZZA FOR F*CKS SAKE!!! The pounds do melt off though if you're diligent about sticking to it and not going over your daily carb count. Trying to start a workout routine to go with the diet soon. Hopefully that will allow me some leeway with what I eat. Keto's no joke, but it works.
So I haven't posted in here in a really long time. Mostly because I haven't been doing shit other than stressing at work and eating cookies. But two things happened recently. 1. We got a dog! Which means I have to get up early and take him for a walk every morning before work. And, 2. So I've been half-assing a paleo diet off and on for months. I finally got a fed up and took on the 21 day sugar detox as a way to kick start a serious paleo lifestyle. Amongst the million other benefits (seriously, I made a list of 14 noticeable differences I've seen in just 3 weeks), I lost 9 lbs. Woo-hoo! Highly recommend this for anyone who feels like their eating habits are out of control/lacks energy/isn't sleeping well/has digestion issues/wants their face to clear up/is dealing with mild depression/is addicted to sugar.

I need to seriously do this. I've simply cut down on sugar and have noticed less bloat and my skin is clearing up. I know if I did a sugar-free cleanse I would see immediate and dramatic benefits.

Just requested the 4 days off before bonnaroo so I can run a race at Lake Placid. Suppose that means I should get in this thread a little more often.
This winter was brutal. So I drank a lot. Now I'm not drinking for a while to get my running back in order and prep for all this up coming stuff. I was up about 12 lbs from October. Time to start shedding that I suppose.

I've never heard of this before, but that's not unusual. What all do you eat?
Meats, cheeses, leafy greens, bacon, more bacon, avocados, and lots of peanuts and almonds. There's plenty good stuff you can eat, but it is not easy. It's basically a zero carb and sugar diet. The majority of your calories come from fats and some from protein. It switches your body from burning carbs for energy to burning fats. It takes a while before the transition takes place, but what works for me is the fact that you don't want to kick your body out of this process once you're in it. So, it makes you stick to it even if it's torture. I've been unemployed for over a year now and all that sitting around really started taking it's toll, so I needed something extreme. It works really well for people with a sedentary lifestyle. The pounds just start falling off. It changes how your brain works too (it was originally a diet for people with epilepsy), so I've found that part to be weird. My taste buds seem to have changed too. I'm just not even hungry most of the time, but I eat cause I know I have to. It's been weird, but it's working pretty significantly.

Be very careful with this diet. If you have long-term success with it, you'd be the first person I've ever know to do so. When you kick yourself out of this "mode", you're body's going to freak out, so be very careful. Also, balancing this diet with exercise can be very tricky, and flat out dangerous. I've seen this diet absolutely ruin people's metabolisms, and if you're metabolism isn't functioning properly, what's the point?
It's incredibly simple to lose weight, It's math and common sense. Eat good foods, and exercise, because in the end, it's all about caloric input minus caloric output. It's amazing to me that people would rather put themselves into "food jail" than just exercise for a bit every day.
Another important thing to remember is to eat clean. Most of us eat far too many chemicals with every meal, and those chemicals do a number on our body. If you need motivation to eat well, just watch any number of the food documentaries on Netflix.

I have been doing something similar for the last week and change. Over the last couple days, I have noticed what you said about losing your hunger. I have started to schedule eating to some extent because I don't get hungry like I used to. It's an odd concept for me.
Edit: Black Dynamite, I am just using it for the short term, so don't worry about me.
