So Pitchfork officially announced the dates to their festival..
July 17-19
..the place..
Union Park in Chicago, IL(same place it's always been)
..aswell as when the tickets will go on sell..
Friday, March 13th
Lineup(so far):
Friday, July 17 Built to Spill The Jesus Lizard Yo La Tengo Tortoise
Saturday, July 18 The National Yeasayer The Pains of Being Pure at Heart F*cked Up Plants and Animals Matt and Kim Wavves Charles Hamilton The Duchess and The Duke Disappears
Sunday, July 19 The Flaming Lips Grizzly Bear M83 The Walkmen Pharoahe Monch Blitzen Trapper Black Lips The Very Best Mew Vivian Girls Japandroids Women
I'll probably do Friday night again. Last year the fest was just so disorganized i dont see myself going back for the whole weekend. Some of the stages were behind an hour and a half so you never knew who was going on when.
The best part is the little market and the veggie food.
White Denim - 8/13-14 Power of the Riff - 9/1-2 Bruce Springsteen - 9/19 & 9/21 Gonjasufi - 9/24 Jay Z - 10/4 Animal Collective - 10/5 Swans - 10/10 GWAR - 10/16 New Order - 10/18 Squarepusher - 11/1 Bassnectar - 11/18 Neil Young & Crazy Horse - 11/27 Bonnaroo 2013 - ???
Good Start! It maybe a good thing they are gonna let people pick JL and Tortoise setlist. Too many good albums from both of them. And Vivian Girls. Great band.

Well no fan picked set list, but still the Flaming Lips will be sick. I have a feeling since it's Pitchfork, they might play some earlier stuff. The Lips coupled with the Walkmen, Grizzly Bear, Built To Spill, Yo La Tengo, and most of all the National, have convinced me to buy a ticket. I just hope some of my friends tag along.
Anybody who's been to this, how long are the headlining sets?

Last year, the headlining sets were no longer than the earlier sets. The longest set I saw was an hour. Apparently P4K got in a little bit of trouble because Animal Collective went a few minutes past the 10:00 noise curfew.
wow, that sucks. they didn't do a great job of retracting that statement. and yes, the poster above is right about last year...i guess they were only about an hour.

Yea they were probably hoping it would just blow over, which it kind of did, no write the night is better than no Flaming Lips.
Wow one hour a set, I guess we get kind of spoiled at Bonnaroo, but I bet it helps to see more bands, so that's a plus. I wonder who the Saturday headliner will be. I really like the National, but I can't help but imagine P4K has something bigger up their sleeves, and the one thing that comes to mind is a Broken Social Scene, with a full lineup, which would be awesome. But then again I'm just taking stuff out of thin air, and haven't looked at BSS's tour schedule.

Public Enemy ran mad late and played until at least 10:30... I think they were the ones who got P4k in trouble, because AC said the plug was being pulled when they left the stage and that was pretty much right at 10.

Yeasayer, Blitzen Trapper, Mew, Japandroids, Plants and Animals were just added. For those who haven't listened to Plants and Animals album Parc Avenue do so, it's really an excellent under appreciated album from last year. Here's the link pitchfork.com/news/35099-blitzen-trapper-and-yeasayer-added-to-p4k-fest/
I love how it says many more artists to come, I'm really excited to see who they get to headline Saturday.
PITCHFORK MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES BEIRUT, DOOM, FRIGHTENED RABBIT, LINDSTRØM & MORE TO PERFORM AT 2009 FESTIVAL!
As the Chicago winter reluctantly becomes the spring, and the charcoal grills and lawn chairs emerge from hibernation, the 2009 Pitchfork Music Festival -- to be held in Chicago's Union Park Friday, July 17 through Sunday, July 19 -- is pleased to be announcing even more undeniably unique and ground-breaking acts performing at this year's event. Saturday will see performances by Beirut, DOOM, Lindstrøm, and Ponytail and on Sunday, the festival will be adding Frightened Rabbit, The Mae Shi, DJ/Rupture, and Dianogah to the ultimate festival lineup of the summer.
Those who remember the speed with which tickets sold out last year should not find it surprising that the number of 3-day passes is quickly diminishing and should be sold out within the week. Remember, ticket buyers can go online and "Write the Night" by voting for the set list of their dreams for the bands performing on Friday night. The ballot boxes are open until June 12. Those who have already purchased a ticket but have yet to vote should be sure to check their purchase confirmation email for a link to the polls.

Beirut is on the top of my must see list, so I am very pumped to see that set. DOOM will also be very interesting, although I haven't listened to any of his stuff since the mouse and the mask, hopefully it will actually be him under the mask on stage.
It's still up in the air though if The National really are the Saturday headliner, and on the press release it says many more artists to come. So I'm thinking another 5-7 artists will be added in a couple weeks, one of which the Saturday headliner. The National are one of my favorite bands, I just don't know if they are big enough to headline.
