late to the table, but bringing her friend along is perfect. someone to commiserate with if things get rough and also you two can split up and do your own things for a bit and she won't feel abandoned.
Hi! good question. I am a camp-friendly independent girl but I took 2 girly girls with me last year. Everything worked out, but a few things could have gone more smoothly.
it's hot. it's hot in the tents. you can't sleep in. our screen tent worked well to lay in during the day so you get some air & shade, but not the inside-tent steam.
they were both ok with fake showers. we brought all purpose johnson's baby shampoo to wash everything (in our bathing suits). & we refilled a big water jug & let it sit out all day warming up. the unruly hair was fun.
rain gear. no ones wants to be miserable in the rain. a decent hoodie/jacket & boots! the boots made it no big deal to walk in the ick.
water! & pace yourself. & don't worry. the "you can't get lost" IS perfectly true. just have fun & we'll catch up later.
my bf is going with me this year. he knows i have a ton of energy & spirit & he's more into relaxing. which i can do ...for so long. i just really hope he doesn't feel the need to look after me the whole time. i'll be like this =D running circles around him. can't wait, really!
haha I thought this thread was dead. But since its back
My girlfreinds best freind flaked on her, so now I'm back to square one. Not to worried there will be atleast 2 other females that are veteran roosters for her campanionship. Also got her lurking on the boards so she has a decent Idea what to expect. not that she doesn't already I talk about bonnaroo ALL the time these days.

Did she see this thread?
Haha no idea to be honest. If she did I'm not to worried I never really said anything insulting, She'd be the first to admit going to bonnaroo is stepping out of her comfor zone to an extent, and I call her an inside pet all the time so she's fully aware.

I know I'm about two months late, but this particular subject is close to me since I went through the same thing. Its important to let her know that you're not judging her by her everyday "inside pet" status... (I dont really think anybody would peg me for one who could do the festival thing... but the element of surprise is what I do best.)
Let her read the boards. Let her research it all. If it psyches her out, then have her talk to you (or the kids at inforoo!) about her concerns. She HAS TO be prepared, and although your supposrt and stories will help, she should check out some of the woman veterans' posts on this site... then shes not walking into this blindly.
...then again theres only 35 days left and for all i know she's a pro at this and can set your tent up in pitch dark, with monsoon weather.
I've done pretty much all I can to help her get prepared at this point. Just gonna be patient and keep an open mind while at roo, make my best efforts for her not to feel judged or inadeqaute in some way. Other than that all I can do is party my booty off and listen to great music and hope she enjoys herself.

I took a friend just like that last year! I thought she would totally whine and be miserable the whole time. I just warned how hot and crazy it could be, so she bout extra fans and shade tents and stuff just to ensure her comfort. She shocked me though and really enjoyed! Now she actually enjoys camping and doing outdoor things and she was petrified of the snakes and spiders that she thought would be at roo lol!

well when I took my husband to his first camping and festival experience I was equally worried. He is very much an indoor cat. He likes to be on his computer in his dark cave. Anywho- he loved it, the best thing to do is prepare the person regardless of gender. And most importantly be sympathetic and don't be a jerk. Make sure to have a plan for meeting up and for setting up the camp etc. Now it's funny because my husband totally will plan and set up the camp, I remember when he looked at the tent spikes and just scratched his head. You never know she may enjoy it so much she will just go on tour and leave ya' behind haha.
