Eh, I was really hoping to go to ACL this year but the Lolla line up is just so much better for me and would ultimately be cheaper. I will probably just do Lolla instead, hopefully the lineup is a little better next year because I really want to visit Austin some day.

I'm really liking this, but I learned from last year to wait for the schedule. Every band I wanted to see had a conflict. I don't want to only see half the bands I'm into again. But I'll be living in TX by then, so I better make it for at least part of it!
ok wow. if pj and dmb only get 90 minutes that would suck. guess i will have to see who is playing vooodoo.
have you ever been to a city fest? just about all of them have to end all set times by 10pm or so. that's a lot of bands to fit in a very small time table.
which is why aftershows are where the party's at!! ;D ;D

no, i haven't. we are trying to decide if we are going to or not. and trying to determine which one is the best. some of these lineups look great on paper, but there are lots of other factors to determine if i want to go. set lengths(if the headliners don't get headline time that's a negative), setup/location of the festival. plus the whole vibe of the fest.

well, like i said, ANY city fest you attend will have MUCH shorter set times than any camping festival because most of them are bound by city noise ordinances. but the aftershows are GREAT! i've honestly never been to chicago(will in a week, though!), so i'm not sure what the vibe or aftershows are like there, but in austin its a huge party downtown during ACL.
the thing about city fests is you HAVE to be there for the MUSIC. not for the party like some do at bonnaroo. there isn't really anything else going on at the festival but that. so my advice would just be to find which lineup suits your tastes more, and go to that one.
i can speak for ACL in that i have never had a bad experience with people there, nor security. in fact, last year i probably could have smuggled a small assault rifle in and they would never have known.

i will have to decide after i see the voodoo lineup. pretty sure their headliners get a normal headline slot. other than that acl looks great. so do some of the other fests this year.

yeah, sometimes a local's perspective isn't the best. i've gone every year since 2005. i mean, it's just a given since i live here, so i always know i'm going no matter what. i had a few people stay with me from out of state last year, and a couple of them plan to come back
My opinion of the lineup is definitely not as negative as it could have been given some of what was leaked early on, but I'm probably going to go the single day pass/aftershow route. The nice thing about ACL is the ability to pick and choose like that.
Rodriguez is probably the biggest get of the festival for me. If you haven't checked out Cold Fact, you're missing out.

Lineup looks great, a lot of things I would really like to see but I'm confused with Phoenix's place on the poster. On this poster they're above Bon Iver, who is pretty high up on the poster at Bonnaroo. Yet, at Bonnaroo they're only playing cafe. I wonder what's making the discrepancy?
Also can't Bonnaroo get Arctic Monkey's? It seems like we rarely get any of the Next Big British Bands, and out of all those Arctic Monkey's are the most solid. I mean their second album is better than their first, which barely ever happens with blog buzz bands.

honestly, i don't really go by acl's order as far as importance after the first 7 or so names. there are just SO many stages that there are lots of bands always going on at once.
Nice line up, as usual. I need to go to this some year.
Levon Helm, MMW, Pearl Jam, Mimicking Birds, Robyn Hitchcock, The Dodos, Bon Iver, Phoenix, Sonic Youth, Rodriguez, Mos Def, Ghostland Observatory, Dave Mathews, and John Legend (yeah, I don't think he's too bad... I'd go check it out, he's a good singer, if nothing else) would all draw me to this fest.
