i had a blast last year. my favorite shows were abigail washburn and the sparrow quartet and yonder mountain. but i wasn't really disappointed with any of the shows i went to.

2007 was boring as hell IMO. and i didn't even care about the white stripes cancelling. that meant muse got a headlining gig and common was given a set.
i loved 2005. friday at the main stage was gov't mule>allman bros>lucinda williams>black crowes
no link. just using the same logic we are using to predict they are playing lollapalooza. nin has a chicago date (no jane's), they also have an austin date (no jane's).

i'm so confused as to the point you're trying to make. this thread is about ACL, and confirmations. KoL has an article stating they will headline.
nowhere has anyone even suggested that NIN will be there, let alone Jane's. not saying they couldn't be, but i don't understand why you're so adamant they will. esp since their "date" is in may, and ACL isn't for another 5 months. i see no correlation.
no, what i saw said that austin date in may was nin only. so i figured jane's wasn't playing that date because they are coming back for acl. the same reason they are not playing with nin in chicago.
I'm hoping to be able to afford ACL this year....even if it's just a one day pass. Considering Zilker is so close to my house, it's kind of sad that I didn't go the past 2 years.

Is it just me or is there a general lack of headliner-quality bands on the circuit right now? It seems like the same bands just move around playing different festies every year. Not to be a hater but Pearl Jam, DMB, and Beasties are pretty much 2008 leftovers. No wonder the "big announcements" usually wind up disappointing.
White Denim - 8/13-14 Power of the Riff - 9/1-2 Bruce Springsteen - 9/19 & 9/21 Gonjasufi - 9/24 Jay Z - 10/4 Animal Collective - 10/5 Swans - 10/10 GWAR - 10/16 New Order - 10/18 Squarepusher - 11/1 Bassnectar - 11/18 Neil Young & Crazy Horse - 11/27 Bonnaroo 2013 - ???
^^^Yeah. I believe Pearl Jam tries to make it a habit of only booking one festival a year probably to keep their asking price up. I don't really have a big problem with them getting booked, probably as the closer. Not a fan, but they understandably have a devoted fan base and it's not like they come to Austin that often.
I've been pretty much done with DMB for a decade now. Would rather have solo Dave Matthews or Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds than DMB. Big blahness.
Beastie Boys is a solid pick, but I'm already going to be seeing them at Bonnaroo, so again, not real thrilled.
KoL sucked live when they were writing songs I liked. Now they're writing songs I don't like, so I can't imagine being real thrilled seeing them.
Ghostland Observatory is not a headliner. I got to think this one is probably a misprint, like they'll probably play a prime slot on one of the stages, but I cannot imagine them meriting this much of a bump.

i think GLO could easily headline a friday night at ACL. the mars volta/manu chao headlined friday last year, and i definitely don't see them headlining a fest like roo.
acl is not roo. they don't need HUGE headliners like radiohead, phish, the dead, tool, etc when all the shows have to be over by 10pm as it is. it's just not the same kind of festival...especially when you have TONS of aftershows to attend.

Manu Chao has a large Mexican following that sells out his shows instantly every time he comes through Austin and was at the top of C3's wishlist for awhile. And he's an international superstar. Plus, you had David Byrne preceding him, so it was sort of a nice 1-2 combo.
And the Mars Volta is just a bigger band right now than GLO.
Comparatively speaking, you're talking about a band that's billed below Girl Talk at Coachella closing out one of the major two stages at ACL. I know they have a big hometown fanbase, but that's not exactly a great selling point to me. It just means, hey, we get a band we get to see a couple times a year anyway.

yes, but a big part of GLO's draw is their light show. only headliners ever get enough darkness to make a light show worth it due to the fest having to end at 10.
i still wouldn't see manu chao headlining a fest like roo, nor the mars volta. which is why i don't think comparing it to a bigger fests' headliner is really fair.

I know what you're saying, and I've never really thought of ACL as being Roo-like in any respect.
All I'm saying is that Ghostland in one of the five prime slots would represent a significant downgrade to past years, laser light show or not, both in terms of draw and artistic merit - and it's not like the bar's been set too high for ACL.

Yeah...see, Friday was probably the only day I would've gone to ACL last year because of Manu Chao and David Byrne.
For me, GLO needs to write A hit song before they get that spot or at least sell some albums. I think they're fun live, but I also can't help but shake the feeling they're a fad that people won't get five years from now.
