Welcome to Mafia 14!
In the small, friendly music community of Bonnaroo, a crafty Mafia have infiltrated the population. Every night these Mafiosi decide amongst themselves who to ruthlessly assassinate. At the beginning of each morning, people learn that one of their own has been killed.
Every day, the population gathers to discuss whom they think is a member of the Mafia. There is a vote, and the one with the majority is executed. The Townspeople must do this in order to clean Bonnaroo of the Mafia and restore its peaceful vibe. However, if the Mafia are able, through disrupting the votes and performing their assassinations, to eliminate Townspeople to the point that they are in the majority, they will rule Bonnaroo forever.
Thus, the Townspeople's great hope lies in three of their own: the Inspector, the Nurse, and the Vigilante. The Inspector is a secret figure, known only to him or herself, that has inside information on the identity of the Mafiosi. S/he can covertly use this information to influence the votes towards the Mafiosi. But s/he better watch his/her step, because if the Mafia gets wind it will be lights out. The Vigilante periodically takes the law into his/her own hands, singling out those s/he believes to be mafia. To avoid discovery, the Vigilante lays low and spaces out his/her activity. The Nurse is much like a guardian angel. S/he stands watch over one player, whom s/he presumes innocent, to prevent attacks on the guarded player.
Good luck.
Signed,
Bonnaroo Referee
----------------------
Clarification of rules:
1) The referee randomly chooses from the 11 13 players three Mafiosi, one Inspector, one Nurse and one Vigilante. All the rest are Townspeople. Each person is informed of their part via PM, and are not allowed to share that information with each other except in this thread, the official Mafia game thread. The Mafia are informed of one another's identity, and they are allowed to converse among themselves via PM.
2) The Inspector is informed of his/her part, and also of the identity of one randomly chosen Mafia player.
3) Each day a vote is held for the player to be eliminated. For online play, deliberation and voting is combined; thus, you can vote and explain yourself in the same post. Every player is free to change their vote at any point up until the last vote is in and the Ref declares that voting is closed. The ref will then post the final tally, and announce which player is eliminated and how they died. Then will begin the following night.
4) During the night the Mafia decide on the player they want to eliminate (assassinate), and inform the ref via PM. Once the ref receives this info, it is posted here in the thread, the player is eliminated, and the following day begins.
5) Likewise during the night the Inspector will PM the ref and guess one person who is the Mafia. Goddess will respond with a 'yes' or 'no'.
6) Play continues until all the Mafia have been killed (Townspeople win), or the Mafia outnumber the Townspeople (Mafia win).
7) It will not be revealed, until the end of the game, when a Mafia player or the Inspector have player with a role has been eliminated.
8) Players who have been eliminated are still welcome to post in this thread, but are asked to not say anything leading to any knowledge, suspicions or opinions you might have. Deceased players may not quote anything posted before their death story was published.
9) The Nurse may choose one player to protect each round. The Nurse may choose to protect him/her-self. The Nurse may not guard a player more than once during the course of the game.
10) The Vigilante is able to kill one player during even-numbered Nights, should s/he choose to do so.
11) Should the Mafia and Vigilante choose the same target at Night, the Referee will observe the first request and ask the player guessing second to choose a new target.
12) It is recommended, though not required, that players submit death stories to the referee for the deaths chosen by their roles. Mafia and Vigilante write their own Nighttime whack stories; a Townsperson writes Daytime voted-off stories.
Also, Bek, two things about the initial posting: 1. When I altered some of those rules for last game, I put the new parts in italics and mentioned it in rule zero. They're not italicized in this rule posting. Not necessarily saying it needs changing, but wanted to make sure you know. 2. The Mafia 8 link gives an error message. I dug up the thread again, for accuracy. bonnaroo.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=offtopic&action=display&thread=9656 ^ use that one instead.

Yeah I didn't italicize the newer rules since they aren't technically new this round but I will fix the link for mafia 8.

I vote for Tara.
Also, I remembered that in 13, Fishing had said that he wouldn't be able to really be around until Monday-- So if he holds up voting, that could be why.
hey kdogg, its cool man, im on your side, i wont tell anyone if you tell me your role
1. It's against the rules to collaborate outside of the thread. 2. I think my safest course of action at this point, with little to no information available, is to vote for one of last game's mafia. I've got a feeling last game's mafia aren't in this game's mafia, so voting for Fishingmanic or Rooconteur is probably less of a threat to my survival than voting for any of the other ten. 3. The fact that you're trying to sway me so hard so early only makes you look more suspicious in my eyes...

i know the rules, it was a joke. sorry, ive read you take this really serious. guess now i know.
I vote for Fishingmaniac, because I figure his will be the most entertaining self-defense of all.
Dude I'm freakin' Irish and you're going to accuse me of being mafia the week of St. Patrick's day (which also happens to be my half birthday). You suck.
I'm gonna vote for me too. Let's just get this over with.

...I'm strategically voting to keep my innocent self alive.

A vigilante might not like this course of thinking.
Rooconteur, you changed your picture and I keep getting confused!
The current pic is me. Unfortunately the handsome fellow that was up there is just a guy from a picture from a Phish article.
Also, I'm confused by your comment-- can you explain? Why would the vigilante not like that course of thinking?
You were the vigilante last game. You should know how the vigilante thinks.
Actually, I was horribly torn as the vigilante.. there wasn't enough knowledge within the game for me to really KNOW I would be killing someone who was mafia.. so I went with the thought that a mafia member was being quiet-- I was wrong and killed an innocent, but I don't think Kdogg's thinking is something the vigilante wouldn't like.. I think the vigilante's role is only going to be really effective when the inspector speaks up and the majority doesn't listen.
Kdogg is an awesome player, and I, as a townsperson, want to keep him around. Him voting as a means of pure survival is good for him, the townspeople, and the vigilante. The vigilante is ultimately on the townspeoples side, so if Kdogg is a townsperson, then him staying alive is a good thing.
