wow.... have we ever had a player go awol before??
so many options.
here is my suggestion: let the vote stand. I know that is easy for me to say but at this point mike's vote would not matter. bama would be voted out by the people no matter which way mike would intend to vote.
and...
if mike is a townsperson we could, for the purpose to continuing to play, beg our mafia whack him in the night and he is no more. nobody would vote for him but the mafia would have to choose him as their nightly victim and people who are still playing are not penalized. I would consider this a "legal" removal.
if mike is in the mafia but he is awol, then he is to be presumed "dead", in which case the mafia would be allowed to claim two victims on their next nightly rendezvous.
Handgun closed voting already. Not sure where we're going from here. It's not like Mike's sitting on the deciding vote.
I want to adjust my earlier proposal. I think it was a step in the right direction towards simulating the rest of the game in one round, but I don't think it was accurate enough.
Let's assume we play out Round 3. Bama will be gone, plus whomever the Mafia whacks. Round 4 will begin with five players, including Mike unless he gets whacked, at least one of whom is mafia.
Round 4 would normally include: 5 player votes during Day 1 mafia whack during Night
Then we would (assuming mafia were still alive) move on to Round 5, with three players. Round 5 would include: 3 player votes during Day 1 mafia whack during Night (wouldn't this only occur to clinch a mafia victory?)
Grand total of remaining game decisions: 8 player votes (guaranteed) 2 mafia whacks (1 guaranteed, unless Bama getting voted off kills the last surviving mafia)
I don't think my first proposal accurately included the mafia in procedural details. Here's how I think we should do this if Mike stays AWOL:
Complete Round 3 without Mike and enter special "WTF Mike?" round. The four remaining players each get two votes; these votes must be ranked #1 and #2 according to players' prerogative. Mike, though inactive, will be eligible to receive votes. The WTF Mike? round would not be exempt from runoffs, should the situation require it. To simulate/compensate for the loss of a whack, the mafia will get to nullify one other player's #2 vote; this would probably be best done via PM to handgun. I'm not sure what the timing on this should be if we're trying to merge two rounds into one while accurately reflecting our unfinished business. Maybe have everyone PM their #2 votes to handgun, and let the mafia pick whose vote to cancel based on their #1s before #2s are revealed?
I don't know. I think accurately recreating the remaining game while shortening the schedule is just too much of a pain in the ass.

I agree with you that Mike's vote is irrelevant... this round.

Don't we need to know who the mafia wants dead for strategic purposes? What if it turns out that Mike is the last member of the mafia? You'd be making him whack himself off (heh heh) and force the game to a premature conclusion.

That just brings us back to my problem of playing with an even number of players again, doesn't it? I had a problem with that to begin with.

normally yes we would need insight to the mafia's strategy. but we are obviously gonna have to make some sort of sacrifices. if it happened so that he was the last remaining member of the mafia then handgun could fill his spot and nobody would be none the wiser.

okay if bama is gone and mike is awol then...
if there was one surviving mafia member and they did away with two townspeople then there would be a 2:1 ratio and the townspeople would have one more chance to kill the mafia. so I dunno man.
personally, I think there is a really good chance that bama is the last remaining mafia member...

If it happened so that handgun was stepping in for a Townsperson, she would know all of the who's who and it wouldn't be doable... so if handgun stepped in for Mike, we would have to assume she's mafia.

I know that you're suggesting we give the mafia an extra vote for taking out Mike, but I'm confused as to where exactly this relocated vote is being taken from. The only way you're going to get Mike taken care of this round is by taking away one of the mafia's future whacks. How likely is it that they would go along with such a deal?
One other thing that's got me confused about your suggestion. Why do the mafia have to do what a majority of Townspeople want them to do? Isn't that contrary to the game itself? If we Townspeople want something done, why aren't we doing it ourselves?
I propose we simply re-open voting and get rid of Mike. I highly doubt Bama wouldn't be the leading candidate in a Day 4 vote. It's less of a headache than all this back-and-forth. I swear, this game's going to give me carpal tunnel syndrome...

she could decide who to kill and I believe she would be just about it. she would only step in if mike was in the mafia and sine we would not know him to be in the mafia then we would not know that handgun did his whacking. this is all of course, hypothetically speaking. mike would be an "invisible" player until he shows back up or is whacked.

The mafia would benefit from killing off mike because play could resume and they could also be down one more townsmember. we do want something done, we want to kill the mafia, right kdogg? we do not know for sure that mike is in the mafia and since he is obviously not here to defend himself then why would we vote him off when he could be a potential ally?
It doesn't really matter to me what handgun decides to do... but our game is in a serious state of limbo.
Good. I want to see the look on his face when we off him for putting us through this BS!
I checked the Wikipedia entry for Mafia (game) and a couple related sites, but all I found even remotely related to our situation was that going AFK during a real-time game is "very unacceptable."

Alright, I'm going to go on with the fact that we're going to kill bama.
The mafia will be allowed to kill someone tonight if bama isn't the last remaining member, and the inspector allowed to guess-- per always.
The next round, we can continue and hope Mike comes back [if he doesn't get killed tonight by mafia] and votes. If he doesn't come back and vote, then it might not even hurt the game. Maybe the townspeople will decide to take out Mike next round anyway.
That's my solution. I don't feel like I could fill in a role in the game, because obviously-- if I were to take a mafia role, you guys would automatically kill me. If not, I'd know who the mafia were, and I'd vote accordingly, being unfair to the mafia. :/

CUT - To Friday night at Bonnaroo...Phish had just phinished an epic late night show much to the joy of 'Bama who had spent her evening shakin' her booty, while tossing and twirling her glow-sticks. Eventually she had become completely engrossed in the glow stick war, and lost all her own glowies and blinkies in the vast crowd. As people started to wander back their tents and to other shows, 'Bama decided to try and ground-score a few still bright and unbroken glow-necklaces for herself. Sure enough just a few feet away from the arch, she spotted a particularly bright bundle just begging to be picked up. But as she bent over and reach for them, the slipped a few feet away in the grass. Puzzled but undeterred, she followed them and again tried to grab the florescent jewelry. Again they slide a few feet away in the grass. Again 'Bama followed. This kept on for hours, with poor 'Bama obliviously getting farther and farther from The Farm. Finally in frustration she ran and pounced on the glowies which didn't move an inch, and as she stood up with her prize clenched in her hand, 'Bama noticed an I-24 sign, illuminated by the headlights of the Mac truck she never saw coming.
Thank you to carpe for the death story. :]
Day 3 is [finally] over. Night 3 begins.
Inspector- PM me your guess. Mafia- PM me your choice and death story.

DJJD is walking around Bonnaroo, searching for a devoted fan to have the opportunity to go backstage and report about it on Bonnaroo radio... or so Superbek thinks when she is approached to go backstage. Bek sees Snoop Dogg chilling in a hammock. It is a prime opportunity to get a tale for the radio, and maybe an interview. Snoops nods in her direction and waves. An ample Phillies rests between his fingertips. "Git over here," Snoop says, "I been waiting for you." She takes two steps in Snoop's direction before the ground gives out beneath her. The pit below isn't too deep, but it is lined with 9" nails. Within the hour, DJJD is on the radio. Superbek got on the radio, but not under ideal circumstances.
If she's the Inspector, as she has been claiming, she'd most likely be dead now. This tells me one of two things: 1. Bek really is our Inspector, and the mafia is just plain retarded for keeping her alive so long. Am I really supposed to believe Bama is in a mafia that HASN'T used one of two opportunities to whack Bek yet? If I'm supposed to believe Bek, I would have to concede that bama is part of a retarded mafia. That doesn't sit right with me. 2. Bek is mafia, lying about Inspector claims to throw off the townsfolk... kind of like an undercover agent in reverse. It explains why she's on track to break the record for Inspector life-span.
Crap. It's #1 and I just called the mafia a bunch of retards. Fuck me.
I admit I was wrong about the Bek-not-Inspector thing after this whack. She'd just gone un-whacked so long after she started dropping hints that arose my suspicion. I'm revisiting our argument last round and trying to see things her way.
That means if all three mafia are alive (and I am pretty sure one if not two of them are dead), then it would have to be bluecadet, bama, and mike.
These are the people we should be interrogating. My vote is for bama. bama is mafia.
I'm using this to narrow the suspects.
I read "one if not two of them are dead" to mean that Bek definitely confirmed one mafia identity. I'm guessing that was Carpe, since he was looking suspicious that first round. That's why she knew at least one of them was dead.
However I am more than confident that bama is in the mafia just as confident as I am that Sammy is NOT in the mafia.
I'm think Bek guessed about Sammy during Night 2 after he was the only one voting with Carpe. I'm pretty sure this clears Sammy here. That's why Sammy's innocence was a point of contention between Bek & I - he was looking suspicious to me, but she had knowledge I didn't.
Carpe & Bama were probably mafia, so we're probably down to one last mafia.
The only two alive that Bek called out are Mike & Bluecadet... I'm not sure which one of them, but I think one of these guys is the last obstacle to a Townspeople victory.
Common sense says Bek MIGHT be the inspector because of her persistance with bama being mafia. If bama gets voted off and myself or beks gets murdered. Everyone vote kdogg. He's pullin' strings with his long diluted messages.
im thinking hard about this right now , still not sure , i need convincing on why this wouldn't be you kdogg.
where is the game at right now? who was the last person to get killed? what day is ending? are we still in the middle of the vote? hahaha you people write too much for me to follow! hahahhahaaa
