I've seen 311 about 15 times in various states and times in my life and am never disappointed. They have a great crowd, unlike DMB, who I also like. The only downside to 311 is the poor sound quality at their shows. Last time I saw them in Columbus, OH, I think my ears bled from all of the distortion. I couldn't even tell what songs they were playing because the sound was so bad. However, i think they would rock a mid day set.
A Thieve's Parade 2/24 Conspirator 2/26 Kevin Smith 3/11 Keller 3/17 Papadosio 3/18 JJ Grey 3/25 Bela Fleck/Edgar Meyer 3/26 Toubab Krewe 3/27 O'Death 4/11 Budos Band 4/22 EOTO 4/28 Summer Camp 5/6-29 All Good
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
I'm just saying to be too quick to write them off because of the tour schedule. Bands have a way of getting around it as we saw with Bruce Springsteen.
Bringing up acts like Springsteen or Metallica and Kanye in 08 or The Police in 07 is pointless because those are acts with massive resources at their disposal that 311 does not have.
I don't think you understand how big of a band 311 is. They are extremely successful and I'm sure they have massive resources too. It's not like they're some small band playing small venues around they country. They're headlining Red Rocks, fill up arena's (Their playing the Tweeter Center near me which is a huge venue...the same venue Phish will be playing at)...they've even organized their own festivals aaaand they headlined Rothbury last year.
They're playing Chicago on Sunday. Red Rocks on Friday.
They are probably spending Saturday traveling from one place to the other.
Yeah, its definitely some wishful thinking on my part. However, it's worth noting that 6/13 and 6/14 are TBA, meaning they are playing concerts on those days and they just haven't released details. They are "off" on 6/15. Then they play Cleveland on the 6/16.
I'm also considering the fact that 311 has started to show up at more festivals these days. Langerado, Rothbury, Virgin, etc. It only makes sense that they'd make it to 'roo at some point!
And it's definitely "worth their time", with regard to Superfly. The 311 fan base is gigantic.... especially in the south, it could be a very sizable draw.
i saw 311 only once, but i think it has to be one of their most spectacular shows. it was 3/11 day in i believe either 03 or 04 it was a return to new orleans for them and they played for almost 6 hours and played every song i could possibly think of.
04 was the year they played for an insanely long time almost nonstop. It's the year they put on dvd. I went that year, as well as the 311 day before that (can't remember the year... it was during the From Chaos tour) and that year was great too.
I went this past year, however, and it was much different. They were in the big New Orleans arena instead of at the Lakefront arena and it was much more hectic. The crowd was pretty on edge and rowdy and there was lots of bottlethrowing and drama and whatnot.
Other than that I've probably seen them about 6 or 7 time and have always enjoyed myself.

311 is and always will be one of my favorite bands. This also goes for all my friends as well. 311 would never attract the "bro's" crowd to Bonnaroo because they wouldn't pay $250 to see these guys play the 2 songs they know off the radio. 311 shows are all about positive vibes and energy, and they bring plenty of it. Not to mention they have played 6+ hour sets before.
3/24- The Greenhornes 3/31- Queens of the Stone Age performing Queens of the Stone Age. 4/27- Arcade Fire w/ The National 5/19- Primus 6/09-6/12- Bonnaroo! 6/13- Ray Lamontagne 7/04- Florence and the Machine with fireworks.

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey
fuk the naysayers and keep going, gotta do what I gotta do to get the people going! 311 puts on an awesome show, anyone who hasn't seen them live is missing out... sure they might not be perfect all the time, but their songs have such a mellow vibe, and their TRUE fans are not the "meatheads" looking to score some ass, their looking to score some other things... but, that's beside the point! 311 would be a PERFECT addition to Bonnaroo!!!!
