take a pair of dice and roll it to the wall... arrive when it tells you to cause thats about as much advice as anyone could give. it varies year to year and id expect a wait for the 10th
Do people coming from the North just get fucked or what? There were lines on 24, both northbound and southbound.
We weren't sure last year whether to get right in line southbound or to cut everyone and get on Northbound. Some people were cutting, some were staying. We waited in line for 10 hours
So, i have a question. I figure if you arrive wed. at some point in the afternoon, like 4-6 then you'd for sure get camped @ bfe. but if they camp it from the front of bfe to the back of it, and given the fact they let you in on wednesday, the earlier wednesday you get there, the closer you'd be to the front of bfe. from there, the walk isnt that bad at all. what time would one wanna show up to get there at such a time?
Our group REALLY wants the camping only area. We are going to be coming from the North (Nashville). I am planning on arriving around 8:00am to get in line and I was wondering if this was early enough to ensure that I am able to get a camping only spot? Would it be better for me to turn around and not go the bushy branch way to get in line with the people coming from the south. If I did go in with the southerners and wasn't able to get the camping only area do you think that I would have a better chance of getting closer to centeroo??
So if I am coming from the North (Nashville) would it be better for me to stay on 24 and go down to exit 117 and turn around and go in at exit 112 on the other side of the highway?
They always have exit 111 by the winery closed off when I come through on Thursday afternoon. They then route you back on Bushy Branch and park you in BFE
Yeah, that's what I'd suggest. Go down and turn around. Don't get on Bushy Branch. It leads into the back, if I'm not mistaken, so they'll likely put you there
This year will be my first 'Roo, how is it different if you come from the north vs. the south, since you recommend turning around on the 117 and taking I-24 north/west? What exit is the actual one for the farm? And if I'm look at Google maps, where is the farm?
im confused..I thought the park opened at 7am thursday morning?
officially, yes, but it opens up wed night but you cant park as close. you get stuck in "bfe" which is a bit of a hike. You could go in Wed night and move to Tent Only though on Thurs morning. Many people do that since they don't even know how close they could be if coming in Thursday.
They just dont want to advertise it so they dont get even more traffic starting earlier and cause the whole camping area isnt open then. You can either head in on thurs and deal with the distance/move to Tent Only or go in Thurs and take a chance and maybe even stay at the Walmart in Manchester Wed night. Apparently, it's like pre-Bonnaroo party with the whole parking lot filled to the brim with Roo goers.

I hate doing the "bump", but if anyone has any info on this please please please!!
I was told that if you're in by 6pm on thursday you can still get TO. I guess it is really random though, if more people than normal show up early for TO then it will fill faster. So based on that info, I'm sure if you're in line at 8am you will get into TO.
^^^I would imagine the hunt for law-breakin' roo-goers starts earlier than that. Don't dress like a total hippie, don't write stuff all over your car, obey traffic laws, and save the partying for after you've gotten to your site. You'll be fine.
Does anyone take CB's or fm radios with them? It would be cool to have a dedicated roo channel so people can relay info to others waiting in line and just getting close Manchester.
go at the time posted that way you wont end up in bfe i have arrived late at night like 1030pm and like 730am wait time around the same and less than 10 min walk to centaroo. no need to try and get in early and just be prepared for a long slow journey on the side of the interstate
Inforoo-ers that drive in!!! What path do you recommend? We're coming from Nashville airport, should we head south past the farm and flip a shitter or just get in line on southbound I-24?

^^ i would try to enter off I-24, in 8 years i only went in through the back once and we landed in jaffe joffer. every other year i went in through the I-24 gate and was within a 5 to 10 minute walk. mostly around the stars wars campsites and last year in jeff spicoli which wasn't bad either considering we were in a caravan with multiple cars and sat for 9 hours. i still don't think exact times have much to do with it. i travel with a group of slugs, myself included. some years we left by early afternoon Wednesday and others we didn't hit the road from pa till nearly midnight driving straight through, its about 12-14 hours depending on traffic. i will say that i think the latest we have gotten into line was 1pm.
So I just realized that the gates are going to open around 7pm on Wednesday. I know it is a crapshoot, but do you think if I arrived to the line around 2-3am I would be able to get in the camping only area? Just your opinions! Thanks.
^^ Nope. They don't let people into tent only until 8am on Thursday morning. So you'll be parked in BFE if you come in Wed night, and then you'll have to haul your gear to TO in the morning.

I have friends that want to leave wed evening around 8 to get into line around 3am on thur morning. Then wait for the gates to open at 7am. This seems like a recipe to get stuck in bfe. Not to mention no sleep while driving 6-7 hours to Manchester. Thoughts?
My idea was to get a hotel in Nashville on wed night (already reserved, but able to be canceled) and leave leave around 6-7am to get in line by 8am or so. This way we can actually sleep on wed night and its a close drive to Manchester. Plus, maybe minimize our bfe chances, although I know its a crapshoot.

According to bonnaroo.com the campground will open at 7pm on Wednesday this year, not 7am on Thursday.

So we could drive in at 3am? Interesting. Might be hard to set up a tent in darkness, but ok.

from bonnaroo.com under the FAQ tab:
When can we arrive? When do we have to leave?
This year, Bonnaroo will open Wednesday evening June 8th, 2011 to allow more time for vehicles to enter the campgrounds. The parking lot and campground will open at about 7:00 PM on Wednesday and will close around 3:00 PM on Monday. Historically, the longest delays for arriving attendees have occurred from 4:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, so consider these peak delay times when you plan your trip. Come early and get ahead of the crowd!

wow this is great news. hopefully that means no more 8-9 hour lines starting on thursday morning.
probably still going to be 4-5 hour lines, but this should help as they're actually encouraging people to show up on wednesday now.
