This will be my first time going to Bonnaroo and I'm really excited. I was just curious if anyone knew when Bonnaroo actually starts. I saw on the website that it is still TBA, but do any veterans have a general idea of when we can get there?
I've taken off Tuesday-Friday so I'll be able to get there as soon as they open, just curious when that will be and how early I should leave (From St. Louis, MO) to get there before the rush
i think they let you in but bfe you on wedneday night. I'd go for thursday mid morning. I got bfed at 6am thursday morning. I think it's all chance on thursday though.

bfe is where you dont want to wind up. arrive thursday between 8-12 am and you should be good. too early or too late and you may be far away. festivities start around 6, but there is plenty to do after setting up camp. trust me, you will be amazed. I will be leaving wed morning from tx and plan to stop bye for a break at my friends house in nashville, then its on.
Yeah, i agree with that, we left the wal mart and starting head toward roo around 8 or 9 and got a decent camping spot, about 4 minute walk from tent only section and 8 or 9 minute walk to centeroo
Maybe i should add in that i don't think we went through the main entrance though... don't really know which one.... just remember a clock factory and fields, i never went to the entrance off the interstate, i went back roads following someone who worked for roo.

I thought I read today that the gates will open at 7am on thursday , but I think the cops keep Roo updated on how full wal mart is and they usually let you in on Wednesday night.

I arrived Wed night around like 9ish and got a pretty good camping spot...so I don't know, I think it's just a matter of where they want to stick you.
Yeah, I've read several places on the board that arriving Wednesday will get you put in bfe but we got in last year on Wednesday night (actually by accident, had intended on going to the Walmart, and officers were readily directing us once we got off the exist right into roo, it was kinda funny, hah) and we were in pod 1 i think. Regardless of which pod, we weren't far at all. So I agree, I think its kinda random, just depends on where starts to fill up.
edit: yeah, we were in pod 1, camp Jaws (which I thought said camp Jews when i first looked at the map)

booooo, this wasn't the case for us! we got in line around 10:30/11 last year and we were soooooo far away. at least a 40 minute walk. we are going to have to be even later this year, probably not until 3 or so. i am just hoping the karma gods of bonnaroo feel sorry for us about last year.
We showed up at the gates at about 6am Thursday, and were put in the very back of BFE, the first area they fill up, in the Southeast corner of the farm, on the other side of What Stage and VIP from Centeroo. That said, it was still Bonnaroo, and still a lot of fun. We didn't really mind being that far away, we had lots of space, awesome neighbors, it was easy to find our camp, and just generally awesome. The walk was kind of a pain, but we learned to deal with it and made it work really well. So I would say as long as you get there, you will have a good time. The plus side to when we arrived is that we didn't have to wait in line very much to get in. No multi-hour waits in the hot sun on the highway.
Yeah, I think we arrived at our campsites 'round 4:30-5:30 the past two years and were in Han Solo and then Boba Fett. Neither too far to be that bad of a walk.
I always show up about 5:30 PM on Thursday and I end up close to Centeroo and am able to see the first show if I wish.
This is good to know! We are planning on leaving work early on Thursday and being there by 3-4pm so I am really hoping for a good spot. Last time I camped at Roo we had a 40 minute walk..... It was miserable and I have Day Parked since then, until this year and we decided to give camping another shot.

I think we've decided on heading in post-noon Thursday. I really think it's a crapshot either way but this seems to statistically be the best way to go about things... I just wish I knew which exit would be best. I never can remember which one is which.
In 07 we left Iowa City, IA at about 8-9pm and we passed the Roo exit at 7am. We made it to the tollbooths at about 2:30pm that afternoon. We got rockstar camping like 5 minutes from centeroo entrance. I hope to follow the same schedule this time and hope I get the same results. I hate driving through the night but surprisingly 3 weeks of vacation per year doesn't seem to go very far...
My crew has been in line between 8-10am on Thursday the last 4 years and we always have a decent camping spot. Some years better than others. This year I think we are going to try to be in line by 8am on Thursday. The last time we did that (05) we were camped right off of 3rd where everything is happening.
I just wish I knew which exit would be best. I never can remember which one is which.
Also curious about this, anyone have any input?
to be honest, i don't think this makes any difference unless you arrive super early. we got in line last year around 10:30 and when we were driving down the hwy they had a majority of the exits closed to bonnaroo traffic. when we actually exited to get in the line, an officer directed us down another way and we proceeded to be in line for 4 hrs and ended up in bfe.
We left walmart last year around 7:30 or 8:00 and got a relatively decent camping spot. A little far of a walk, but it wasn't horrible. I think its all random though. Weird how they do it if ya ask me...

We got to there last year at about 5 am on Thursday morning...the lines were ridiculous and we needed to wait for some friends anyway. We waited at Wal-Mart until they got there around 9 am and the lines were no where near as long as they were at 5am...

got to Walmart last year around 4pm on Wednesday, and it was already fairly crowded. Word started spreading about 8:30pm that they were letting people in, so we left with some people we had met in the parking lot there and headed over. We got in by 9:45, and were in Camp Oddjob in the SE corner of the map (Pod 1).
I'll be at Walmart Wednesday night. I'd rather get in earlier and faster and possibly end up in BFE. I can't do the traffic deal on Thursday. Sitting for hours possibly. No thanks! haha.

^^ I agree. We're staying in Murfreesboro wednesday night and leaving round 8am to get in line on Thursday morning. I'd much rather end up in BFE than sit in line for hours on end. I'm budgeting extra money for taxis anyways. BFE has more space. Last time I went we were right in front of the arch but some friends were a few streets over and I couldn't believe how cramped they were for space. If we get too cramped or if it's too far, we'll check out tent only. I'm not gonna stress too much about where we camp. I just don't want to wait in line forever.

we got put in the back line separating OddJob from the next camp, and we had a TON of room because there was nothing behind us. We had cool neighbors too, and no canopy, so we ended up stringing tarps to their theirs, and making a makeshift shade area.
That was def. one of the mistakes, not bringing a canopy because we thought we would not have enough room.

Normally waiting in traffic for 4 hours wouldn't appeal to me either. But knowing that 4 days of bliss is just on the other side of that 4 hour wait makes it bearable.
^The wait has never bothered me, and it varies from year to year. In 05 we waited like 20 minutes off I-24 to get in, and in 07 we waited almost 3 hours. As long as you're not driving, bring a frisbee or something. There are always people dickin around on the shoulder.
Well i am going to be in Mursfreeburg prior on Tuesday night and Wednesday until Thursday. But our plans are leaving around 11am.
Last year was our first year and we didn't realize the time change would apply like right outside of Manchester. so instead of getting there at 7am it 6am and was placed in Camp V. not bfe but walking around centeroo wasnt too bad.

..........Well..a word of advice.....what you are saying and what happens don't jibe together. If you propose to get in line around 9am on Th that usually IS a pretty prime time and there WILL be some waiting last year I waited about 3-4 hrs hitting the line around 9am. If you want no line and don't care about BFE go on in Wed. night or at like 5 am Th morn. almost guarenteed BFE.
But I will also bow to the theory that anything can happen and it can be pretty random.
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

Just to put things in perspective here, regardless of when you get in line, the Bonnaroo traffic is possibly the fastest moving & most well-organized festival traffic ever, and it's gotten better every year. They have DEFINITELY mastered getting tons of people in QUICK. One of the reasons I love the fest so much.
