No trial run for me as far as tent & EZ up. I have set them up enough times to know they are all good. I am going to test the air mattress and make sure it has no leaks though. It has been in my trunk since November and I am keeping fingers crossed that the rest of my trunk junk didn't puncture it. I am assuming Dallas will be able to fix it if it has a hole.

I plan on doing a test run with my stuff before I go. I need to seal and waterproof the tent since I haven't used it in a while. The canopy I use will be new, so I will have to see how easy it is to set up with one person. It'll also give me an excuse to sleep out in the yard with my son for one night which is always fun.
Did a test run fro the tent at Lake Eden Arts Festival in NC - got a good thunderstorm test and an 88 degree day test. My 4 yr old (who will NOT be at the Roo) ran it through the dirty feet/roughhousing tests, which it passed.

Run Thru Fail!!!! Oh Shit...
So, I tired to set up the tent in the garage because the it has rained for almost a month straight and my yard is a swamp (wow, runon sentnece). I failed so hard today... just not enough room....

I see your yard mud and raise you. It has been raining a ton this month and we just re-graded our yard. The wife stepped off our porch yesterday and her foot sank 9 inches into our front yard. Needless to say, the trial run has been delayed a bit until that mess settles down.

^^ I've been thinking about how it could be raining on Thursday during camp setup. How bad would that suck? I'm glad I bought an EZUP. At least we could put that up and erect the tent underneath it. I've been putting up everything one piece at a time. I need tos et it all up soon, just to make sure I'm not forgetting anything.

What is the best way to connect tapestries to the canopy? We tried tape last summer, and it didn't stay. Any suggestions?
Velcro, or plastic clips (you can get them in the laundry section at Target, near where the ironing boards are).
zip ties also are invaluable.
For sheets etc... use duct tape on each corner of sheet you are going to hang. Put the tape on both sides , facing each other, poke a hole through now you basically have a grommet that you can slip your zip tie through to adhere to the canopy.
Have had my setup up in the yard for 2 weeks through rain and wind seems sound no problems this year.. fingers crossed

I was wondering through Wal-Mart the other day and saw they have clips in the camping section especially for hanging tarps. I don't know how well they work, but you may wanna check it out.
ahhh! i love the pineapple!! where did you find that?!
Got it at Wal-mart for like two dollars. Should be able to find things like that at any party supply store or Wal-mart. It's made of paper and will undoubtedly shred to pieces in the slightest rain or strong wind, but I'll have a backup flag or something in case of emergency.

I hate admitting that I use Wal-mart so much, but they've got good cheap stuff for Bonnaroo... To hang my tapestries on my test run (and to hold the tarps up, the flagpole, and various other things) I got a bag of 16 (I think) clamps in the tool section at Wal-mart for only like $8.88. I took a picture of the various sizes included, laid out on my cat for your viewing pleasure.
Karma for the Cat Stacking!! I'll put up some pics of my cat stacking when I get home later today!
I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.
got those clips when we were trying to mod canopy v.3.0 but now are on to canopy v.4.0 im pretty sure we will end up needing the clips. stacking made me think of that "stuffonmycat" site
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
We tested out just about everything sofar this year already, as we'll be leaving for Sasquatch tomorrow. We put up everything and waterproofed everything as well, and we even had to test out our air mattress when the cat decided to pee on our bed.

So, we planned on putting everything up this past Friday, but we started drinking beer and never even opened the shed. Note to self: do not drink anymore beer before putting up campsite on 6/11/09.

yes mofro....get the tent put up; when you get there.. you will not want to do it later!!!
i did mine this saturday. i had plenty of room which helps.
if anyone had trouble with their canopy shade tent last year - TURN IT UPSIDE down before sitting it up. if you lie it on the ground upside down and put the rods in and THEN flip it over its soooo much easier. i almost died putting mine up last year because there was no room to flip it over. this year during the trial it was up in about 5 minutes!
I just tested out all of my gear this weekend. We went on a short float trip on the Illinois river; camped Friday night, floated nearly all day Saturday, and camped Saturday night. Just had the tent set up at first, but put up the canopy on Saturday evening because it was raining lightly and nobody wanted to get water on the delicious hamburgers I had just grilled. We had about 12 people under that thing with chairs and a few standing, worked great. I was also able to check my single burner camp stove and small camp grill. So it looks like everything should go off without a hitch at my campsite!

set up my truck bed tent (which is my new favorite thing) in about 15 mins this weekend. Seam sealed and waterproofed. Fixed one EZ UP, bought another. Should be good to go. Only hard thing is going to be setting up the EZ UPs solo since I am a loner this year. Hopefully I can get someone to help me with for exchanging a beer or six.

You and Rom were too busy heckling me to worry about a trial run.

Went camping this weekend and tested the tent and stuff, and everything is still in perfect shape. Water proofing the tent was a good idea, now the water flies off at light speed! Only a little longer guys!!!
don't trial run your stuff too long. we've had the canopy up in the yard since last week, been playing around with shower curtains etc. freak winds in a flash thunderstorm tonight about 10pm while i was sleeping off some fast food on the couch picked up the canopy and threw it onto husband's company car.
no damage to the car that we can see in the dark and the rain. canopy accordion stuff busted in three places. back to wal mart tomorrow. eff you see kay.
it was staked down not with the badass stakes we bough but with the crap ones it comes with and no guylines because i just moved it yesterday when mowing the lawn.
I did the set-up trial runs last year, so this year I just need to check seams, test the lantern and fans, etc.
Make sure the ground cloth does not extend past the tent walls. If you have the ground cloth as pictured rain water will run down the sides of the tent and then under the floor.
How important is a ground tarp under my tent? Can I cut down tarps to the right size or will it fray apart? Don't wanna shell out cash for a custom one designed for my specific tent model. Also I had a random thought (likely won't work as well in reality) to dig a small trench (just talking an inch or two) around the edges of my tent to keep water from running under and collecting under my tent. Thoughts?

It's very important if you want a dry tent. You don't have to get a custom footprint or cut the tarp under your tent, though. Just fold the edges so it is all under your tent and not sticking out anywhere. That is much easier than digging a trench in the hard Roo ground.
Sass's set-up in the pic was for learning-to-set-up-the-tent purposes only. In real life the tarp was folded under our tent and it worked great.
