You are so right on point with this...
Do you ever eat at Runcible Spoon?
I have, but it's not a regular place for me. I sometimes take new employees there for lunch their first week of work. My regular places are Laughing Planet, Max's, Japanee, and Bucceto's. I stopped at Bloomington Bagel Company for breakfast this morning. Hazelnut coffee and an everyseed bagel with artichoke gouda schmear. Mmm...I'm hungry again thinking about it.
Of course JJ and Langhorne count. They're musical gods in their own right. I def think more of JJ and Langhorne than I do of Mellencamp. At least, they're not bungholes
Yeah-just ask jj and he'll tell ya what a god he is. TOTAL bunghole. Heard him on one occasion introduce a song, "This is the best song I ever wrote". Classy move to change the name of your band from Mofro to JJ Grey and Mofro once you achieve moderate success. Also, found him to be a total d-bag, during a convo after a different show.quote]
Hijacking for a moment. You met JJ and thought he as an asshole? Really. I've met him several times and he's the most gracious musician I've ever met. He always takes the time to interact with his fans. He frequents the fansite message board and keeps in contact with the guy that runs it. He offers prizes for contests that we come up with. He's a great guy imo.
Some artists won't give their fans the time of day.
Maybe that song was the best song he ever wrote. I've heard many artists say that.
The name change is based on the fact that the Mofro lineup is always changing. The only two original members are Daryl and JJ. JJ also does a lot of solo gigs, so he has to get his name out there. JJ welcomes changes to his backing band (because that's what they are) because it keeps things fresh.
Hijack ended. Sorry insidejoke but I had to stand up for my boy.

Don't get me wrong, I've been a fan since seeing them one hot bonnaroo afternoon maybe 07 ? A guy from the band, Adam Scone and I share a hometown. Talked to them all that day, and as well, at a show in Cleveland at the Grog Shop I believe. He was really juiced and just marched through the show like he couldn't wait for it to end. Mentioned Bonnaroo, Scone, the current tour, and whatnot, and he was entirely dismissive in general. Not trying to carry a grudge, or hate, just reporting what I took away. Badass blue-eyed soul though. Rejack ended !

Hijack continued.... the husband and I met JJ and got his autograph and some kind words were exchanged with him at Warren's Xmas Jam last year. Well at Waka this year he came to the gate after putting on a hell of a show (Sun Is Shining Down was more moving than any church service I've attended) and the husband took his poster up and JJ signed it and told him that he remembered P and I from Xmas Jam. True Story. JJ was very gracious both times we met him. I'm not saying what you reported was wrong, but just conveying what I know:)
I'll hijack this thread for a moment myself. I've only met JJ one time and he was very sweet. He took pictures with all of us and answered questions. Again, I've only had one limited experience, but it was definitely a good one.
Mofrohead (I guess he's calling himself questionablesanity now though) introduced me to it. We were planning our trip to Bonnaroo and he kept commenting on this message board he was obsessing over. The rest is history...
Why do you torture me with such questions? ??? This is impossible to answer.
In no particular order...
* “Martyr” – Rusted Root * “Everybody Knows this is Nowhere” – Neil Young * “Something” – The Beatles * “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” – The Rolling Stones * "Little Wing" – Stevie Ray Vaughan's version
But I'd really like to add "Diamonds and Gold" by Langhorne Slim, "My Generation" by Todd Snider, "Chicago" and "Jacksonville" by Sufjan Stevens, "Be Here Now" by Mason Jennings, "Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan, "Imagine" by John Lennon, "Lochloosa" by Mofro, and "El Paso" by The Gourds. Plus many, many more...
...and while we're at it... Best "there's a gonna be a hangover record" ? ie which album gets you pumped up and your little ones running around like sugarbabies ?
One Fast Move Or I'm Gone: Music From Kerouac's Big Sur
Good gravy, this is a great album. It was released about three weeks ago but I got my hands on a copy beforehand. I had a *nasty* hangover on Oct. 30 and this was just what the doctor ordered.
"Jack Kerouac was a literary rock star, lionized by his fans. He was called the avatar of the Beat Movement, a new voice of his generation. But along with sudden fame and media hype came his unraveling. The new film, One Fast Move or I'm Gone: Kerouac's Big Sur, takes us back to the cabin he retreated to in the Big Sur woods, the Beat haunts of San Francisco and New York City for an unflinching look at the compelling events his book is based on. The story unfolds through Kerouac's prose, first-hand recollections from Kerouac's contemporaries, as well as writers, poets, actors and musicians who have been deeply influenced by Kerouac's unique gifts. Appearing in the film are Sam Shepard, Patti Smith, Tom Waits, S.E. Hinton, Donal Logue, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Robert Hunter and many more. The stunning, High Definition visual imagery is set to original music composed and performed by recording artists Jay Farrar of Son Volt and Benjamin Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie.
Gibbard stayed in Big Sur to compose songs for his band's 2008 Grammy-nominated album, Narrow Stairs. For many years, Jay Farrar's songwriting has been inspired and influenced by Kerouac's compositional style. Gibbard and Farrar, having never previously met, discovered a mutual kinship in their passion for Kerouac's work while recording several songs for the documentary, produced by Kerouac Films. After the initial San Francisco recording session in July 2007, they decided to develop the project further to create an album using Kerouac's own words from the book as the lyrics."
I almost always do acoustic for a hangover because my head hurts so bad. Old Dylan works well for this.

Please, please, please don't hate me for admitting this, but my guilty pleasure is Justin Timberlake. I'm a rock-n-roll girl at heart, but he absolutely sets me on fire (in more ways than one ).
So, FutureSex/LoveSounds tops my list for what to play as I'm getting ready for a night of debauchery. My wee ones also realize their Mama's affection for JT and get down with me.

So here is a question you do not have to answer if you do not want to, but are you two still dating? I saw small snippets of the story all over the board, but do not feel I ever figured out what had gone down. I only ask because so much of it happened on this board.

OMG. This is a wonderfully interesting question.
Nope, we are not dating. A week or so after ‘Roo, he decided that I wasn’t the one for him. After awhile, I got over it with a little help from my friends (thank God for friends, right?). We ran into each other at a party a few months later and shortly afterwards he decided to change his mind about me. But it was a little too late.
As an aside, I’m sorry to have pulled this whole board through our break up. I was pissed and devastated and wanted to vent to strangers. Crunchies to you all for listening…or just scrolling past.

And I am still truly sorry for hurting you. But, had I not broken up wth you, you wouldn't have dated your new guy and be as happy as you are now, right. So I am sure that a little bit of hurt was worth it in the end because you've found the right guy. :-[But moving on......

I wish I could say bike rides. But I’m not a very confident bike rider, fo sho. So I guess car rides, but I’d prefer to walk if possible.
And thank you for not crucifying me over Justin Timberlake. I had some self-loathing once I discovered my love for him, but he was just too fly to ignore.

Get back to me on how the Meat Puppets goes... I missed their visit to Wisconsin back in August because I was down in Chicago saying goodbye to NIN that weekend.
Speaking of which... ever been to the Aragon Ballroom?
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
Update/edit to this question: Going to see The Meat Puppets this Sunday, 11/15 in Indianapolis, then to Elvis Perkins on 11/19.
I saw The Meat Puppets on the Dinosaur Jr. tour ... last year? I was supposed to see 'em again open for Built To Spill. Had tickets and everything. Forgot what day of the week it was. Elvis, I just saw a week ago, again.
Both shows will be a blast. AA Bondy will steal that show. One of the best sets I've seen all year. Now If I can just get That freekin Volcano Suns reunion I've been dreaming about. But I'm probably the only person that remembers them. Hell ... I'm probably the only person that cares.
If you could have dinner with one person who would that be?

No, but I've been told it's a place to be. You have re-sparked my interest and I'll check out what upcoming shows they have booked. It's only a 4-hr. drive!
