Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
If not what are five (reasonable) acts you would add.
I never did get a clarification, so I'm just going to answer.
Neil Young (usurper of the House of Leon) the Pixies (touring behind Doolittle & I kinda like the "whole album" set idea that's already evident with the Lips) Brian Wilson (legend... Rivers Cuomo just might up his game if he knew this guy was watching) Them Crooked Vultures (I figure this set has much guest-spot potential) Lords of Acid (#5 was a tough choice... I went with them because 1. they'd probably play late night and 2. said set would accumulate a rather large proportion of women with loose morals)
No you nailed it on the head. I just didn't want to see something ridiculous like Radiohead.
And I've wanted to see Brian Wilson for a long time.
I know I stumbled through there at some point, because I wound up with an Excalibur ashtray that reads "Kevin's Butts" on the side.
I also kinda want a grudge match against Circus Circus. They took more of my money than anyone last time. Probably because we didn't get there until after 4am and I was pretty fucking far from sober at that point.
This is my all time favorite bar. I go there almost every night when I'm in Vegas. Where I am going on 3/6. So it looks like we will just miss each other.
That looks more like the kinda place I'm looking for. I love that there appears to be a frequent performer who goes by DJ Beelzebozo. My brother & I could probably stay at a place like that all night; Dad will probably want to GTFO ASAP. That's definitely going on my list.
My other visit to Vegas, this place had been advertising throughout the entire drive. I just couldn't find the time then, but it's high on my list now. www.lasvegasgunrange.net/ Anyone been to this place with a story to share?
For now I'll continue to take it. I'd like to see how high it can get. I'm really curious who's been screwing with it and what they are doing now that I am trying to acquire it. ???
...it did push the troll's buttons - mission accomplished there.
Really? Is that how you see it? In my opinion, it looks a bit more like I successfully pushed your buttons.
What, this can't be a two-way street?
I don't know what your problem was, but I have a right to be pissed at you. You realize you're not only disrespecting me, but this thread itself, right? Here's the general mission of the thread, as outlined in the original post:
Every week we could elect a board member, probably starting out with some more prominent ones, and they answer the questions we ask. These could be about music, life, or anything you could think of. This will go a long way to creating a community here, rather than just a place where we yell at each other for not appreciating our sophisticated music tastes. Alright well I would still want to do that, but at least we'll be able to come here and be nice.
I think your contributions (and I use the term very loosely) to this thread during my BMOTM term run contrary to the aims of this thread.
I know you know how this thread works. You've shown us before. Here's your first exchange in this thread, during Garage's reign as BMOTM:
Could anyone be anymore long-winded, egotistical or self-indulgent when answering relatively simple questions?
I don't think this comment is in line with the stated mission of this thread. As I said before, you weren't only disrespecting me but the thread itself. You don't have to participate in this thread if you don't agree with its purpose. (Readers, think about these contrasting G Kings in light of what I said regarding his turning into a 8==D after a certain point in time...)
BMOTM is a lot like bonnaroo... if you don't like the lineup, DON'T PARTICIPATE.
I would like to add that if you're unwilling to abide by the purpose of the thread... DON'T PARTICIPATE. I just might be tempted to punish you with this gig next
To end this on a more light-hearted note, I stumbled upon this searching for "G King" to see whether he had even participated before this month:
You've heard the term "once in a blue moon"... what exactly is a blue moon? (Hint: beer is not the answer) An ice cream that kinda tastes like Froot Loops.
Where do comets get their water? I think I learned this at some point, but I forgot. Dagobah?
What is the freezing point of beer? Asking me this question is like asking that owl how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.
Where was the first US Capital? Philadelphia
Who were the Buffalo soliders? Weren't they a segregated American army unit? (I'm treating this as a pop quiz and not doing any research)
What does "D-Day" stand for? Cluevalanche!
What is Hitler's middle name? Did he even have one? I could tell you his birthday...
When creating a list in a sentence do you place comas before the word "and" and the last article? (example: article 1, article 2, and article 3) I hate to brag, but I maintain full consciousness when I write my sentences
What are three questions you would like for someone to ask you (I call dibs on these, people)? Off the top of my head, I can think of 3 usual questions past BMOTMs have gotten that I haven't, a couple questions I usually ask, one I've been threatened with... and I liked NoD's response when I asked him a similar question.
How would you console yourself if you couldn't go to Roo this year?
Not going to Bonnaroo is such a foreign concept to me at this point... last year I didn't go to Bonnaroo was 2002. I think a bottle of Jack would be a good place to start.
Hard to quantify & compare. The post-final final exam beer was first to come to mind, but I already mentioned for "triumphant." Second thing that comes to mind: November 9th 2004, I received my re-acceptance letter from UW after being out of the mix the previous 2 1/2 years. The Pixies were on tour, and I saw five shows in the tri-state area. That letter arrived the day of the first of those shows, in Milwaukee with a handful of my closest friends, which just made things that much better. It was more or less the day kdogg got his groove back.
Comparing all the moments the nuts hit the fan... my most recent one. Some context first: My first date with Kendra was 06/06/06, started cohabitating roughly two years later. She was increasingly dissatisfied with her job in Madison & had better opportunities in Maryland; Madison hadn't been too kind to me since graduation either. I had quit my job in anticipation of going with her. Our lease ran out on August 15th and we were (at least supposed to be) leaving for Maryland that morning. Preceding that was a long and stressful week involving lots of cleaning, packing, disposing, fine-tuning plans and the like. It was far from a perfect relationship to begin with, and we both made our mistakes leading up to and during the breakup... the tale that follows is simply the one of the straw that broke the camel's back.
August 14th was, aside from being our last night in town, also my birthday... Earlier that day, Kendra had tried to receive from me a quote-unquote promise that I would cease and desist all celebration at midnight. I said that I would make every reasonable effort to be returning home around midnight, but could not in good conscience "promise" such a future action at that earlier, soberer time of day. We went out that night with a group including her best friend & my friend she'd hooked up, my Madison expat friend & his gf in town for a wedding, and a handful of my guy friends. Eventually, midnight came. Midnight comes, and there are eight of us with two half-full pitchers at my favorite bar. Kendra, as expected, insisted I leave with her right then and there; I said she could take my car home if she wanted, but requested an extra half-hour so as to finish the remaining beverages with the rest of the group before leaving. I pointed out that she even still had songs queued up on the jukebox, but that didn't seem to matter. (It probably did not help that in the midst of this discussion, I at one point paused mid-sentence to down a shot which had been purchased for me.) A friend even offered to pay for my cab ride home. I thought I had proposed a perfectly reasonable Plan B, but for her it did not suffice. Kendra grabbed the pitchers and angrily topped off everyone else in the group's beer. What would've been my refill, she poured down my leg and went outside to make a phone call. She called her father at that point and convinced him to drive her out to Maryland in the morning instead. By 12:10am, she (with my car) were gone. About eight hours before our plan called for leaving.
If you could only eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be?
If nutrition is a consideration, I might have to cop-out with "pizza" so I could get all the food groups. Otherwise, I am a big fan of the Chicago-style red hot:
I've been really craving one lately, but I haven't been down to Chicago since November.

kdogg you failed your pop quiz. The only answer you got right was the trick question... Hitler does NOT have a middle name. fail fail fail.
I will be back with more questions but for the time being I have like 34 pages of thread to read because I am one of those people who actually does their homework!
kdogg you failed your pop quiz. The only answer you got right was the trick question...
Complete and utter bullhonkey brah... does the First Continental Congress mean nothing to you? Also, blue moon is totally an ice cream that kinda tastes like Froot Loops. AND I can write a sentence without going into a coma. I call shenanigans!

I will also point out that I've asked the "favorite curse word" question multiple times as well... that also deserves an asterisk.
No way I'm answering all these in one sitting. Since I know that going in, I'm re-posting all these questions so I can cross them off as I answer them. Going to move the answered questions to the bottom to keep things orderly.
Met anyone famous? (Awaiting clarification...) If you could resurrect five people from all of history, who would you pick? What is your favorite set you've ever seen at Bonnaroo? Which is your favorite of the seven deadly sins? A Facebook quiz told me I'm Gluttony. I see no reason to argue.
Who's going to the next Super Bowl and who wins? This question was a lot easier to answer in the months leading up to the Super Bowl than a couple weeks after it... Of course, the Packers are gonna win it ;D I'll take a random guess and say it'll be against the Chargers.
Speak any other languages? My formal language education included five semesters of college French & three years of high school Spanish; a customer Guillermo & I have been helping each other brush up the past couple months. About three sentences of very basic Russian conversation. A few German swear words. Enough Japanese to get my ass kicked.
What is the best advice you have ever received? Two bits come to mind. The first from Uncle Bill, the summer before I went to college: "You're young, the world is yours to conquer... and if you don't, they make you become a mailman like me." (These days, I'd be thrilled to have that as a consolation prize...) The second from Minneapolis mayor R.T. Rybak: "The couch potato is the enemy of the state."
Met anyone famous? Would you prefer a simple list of names, or the egotistical self-indulgent long-winded version?
Who's your favorite comedian? The late, great Bill Hicks. The man borders on being a prophet as far as I'm concerned.
What was the first album you bought? Guns N Roses Appetite for Destruction at age 11.
Are you currently reading a book? If so, what?* Yes. Technically it's a big-ass book of 6-7 Vonnegut novels behind the counter at work. I'm about halfway through Cat's Cradle.
Do you prefer your toilet paper to hang over or under? Under, but it's not like I'm not gonna wipe my ass if it's hanging over...
Which video game systems do you own? NES - in both box & top-loader format, Super Nintendo, N64, PS1 & Wii. All but the Wii are in storage these days.
Do you often find yourself cracking and breaking down into the fetal position? I wish I could remember exactly who/what I was asking about. I had my inevitable first spill on ice of the winter today. Spent a few moments on the ground wincing and still feeling it in 3 of 4 limbs. But to answer the question in general, no.
Have you ever been arrested? Yes. No. Um... When I was 16 I guess the authorities at Six Flags told me I was under arrest, but un-arrested me after 5-10 minutes... if that makes any sense. The guy I was with who was shoplifting was detained, but they let me go.
Do you have a beer within arm's reach? (this seems rhetorical...) Mmmm... New Glarus Cabin Fever Honey Bock...
What is the longest road trip you have taken? Madison WI --> Cali & back, about 4850mi, with stops at Coachella, Las Vegas, Colorado & Iowa along the way.
Which celebrities share your (our) birthday? Magic Johnson Steve Martin Halle Berry Gary Larson Mila Kunis Danielle Steele Tim Tebow Probably others which escape me now.
Did you waste any time on Kanye, and if so, how much? From the moment I left Sigur Ros to the moment he threw down his mic in a hissy fit and stomped offstage. I had even gone electric when Eddie Vedder made the suggestion.
Have you successfully completed a Power Hour?
Are you physically repelled by Slayer's "Raining Blood?" Hell, I paid to watch them play that nuts. (Was this Q for that hippie Strum? Where's he been lately anyway?)
How many states have you visited?* How many states have you been to? 28 plus DC
Are you sick of being Board Member of the Month yet? Yes... I need a break before I answer any more of these
What's the farthest you've traveled for a non-festival show?* Also asked & answered; Madison to Ohio, roughly 500mi, Radiohead's Kid A/Amnesiac tour August 2001.
Did you get Bonnaroo presale tickets? Yes, on Black Friday.
How much does a typical Bonnaroo cost you? I try to do these things with a budget of $666
So how much alcohol did you bring into Bonnaroo with you? This most recent year is a bit different. My friend had to wait in line for a press pass, and I drove his car with all our supplies in. Two 30packs PBR Three 12packs of WI microbrew cans Two 3L boxes of Franzia Three .75L bottles of Jim Beam One .75L bottle vodka. Alone.
Who's your favorite Beastie Boy? Ad-Rock
First concert? Lollapalooza 1994, a month shy of turning 14 Main stage Smashing Pumpkins Beastie Boys George Clinton & P-Funk All-Stars the Breeders A Tribe Called Quest Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds L7 Side stage Flaming Lips Luscious Jackson the Verve the Frogs
I'm probably forgetting a few in there.
What's your favorite Wisconsin microbrew? New Glarus Spotted Cow
What was the last thing you ate? Chicken noodle soup
Last book you read?* Again with the multi-volume Kurt Vonnegut... Sirens of Titan.
Wilma or Betty? Betty
Next show you're attending?/Last show you attended? Next one? Little Blue Crunchy Things tomorrow night. They were big in the state when I was in high school; nowadays they just do two reunion shows a year - one in Madison, one in Milwaukee. Definitely going to Madison tomorrow, tempted by Milwaukee on Saturday. Last show was my friend's band's reunion show, playing with a Phish tribute band.
What's the most recent album you've picked up? I haven't bought any music in a month and a half I've had a self-imposed moratorium on music purchases since I found out I was going on this road trip. My last visit to a record store, I purchased: Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix William Shatner - Has Been A grab bag (Exclusive Company has these $5 black bags of used CDs and/or DVDs, but it's a crapshoot.) Contents of grab bag: L7 - Hungry for Stink A Tribe Called Quest - the Love Movement Justice "(crucifix)" Notorious B.I.G. - Born Again the Marbles - Seduction (haven't listened yet) the Vindictives - Party Time for bungholes Plus a couple worse-looking ones I ditched with my friend while his back was turned - one was called Ultra Dance Party 09.
I know that answer's a bit long, but it was all one purchase...
What is the worst album you've ever purchased? I am going to make a distinction here and name two winners. The first, an album I legitimately wanted to hear which turned out to be a steaming pile: Liz Phair's self-titled album. The second, an album in the discount/cutout bin that I just knew would suck... and was willing to pay the $2 to find out just how bad:
What are you doing for Thanksgiving weekend? That's some time away, but I'm going to go out on a limb here... watching the Detroit Lions lose.
Have you ever seen Bowie live? Yes, once back in spring 2004 and it was so smurfing amazing.
Do you curse often?/Favorite curse word? Often enough. My favorite has to be golly gee goddam. Nothing calls down the thunder like taking the Lord's name in vain.
Have you been on a brewery tour before? Where? The Miller tour in Milwaukee, the Budweiser tour in St. Louis, and the Capital Brewery in Middleton WI. Also, though it's a distillery, Jack Daniel's in Lynchburg TN.
And what's your favorite Van Halen song? Running With the Devil
Have you completed your holiday shopping yet? About 6-8 weeks ago, yes...
Who is your favorite ninja turtle?* Donatello
When did you first grow the beard? Last time my face was clean-shaven was the night before my departure to Roo 07.
Do you visit the comedy tent at Bonnaroo? I go every year now, but I didn't make it in there until my 2nd or 3rd Bonnaroo.
Do you own a Bible? Believe it or not, yes.
Favorite liquor? As far as ordering shots, I'll say Jameson.
What were your high school extracurricular activities?* Model United Nations, 4 years (repping France, Mongolia, Afghanistan & Canada) National Honors Society, 4 years (I chaired the Student Merit Recognition committee) Mock Trial, 3-4 years (depending on what you call my team that disintegrated) Student coordinator of the Red Cross blood drives, 2 years Odyssey of the Mind, 2 years The occasional Math Team competition (mostly to score points with my pre-calc teacher and/or avoid my physics teacher) Set crew for a play freshman year Would've been a founding Chess Club member, but we couldn't find an advisor... Dabbled in forensics junior year, but dropped out of that because I had too much else on my plate
Which canceled TV show would you bring back? Arrested Development
For whom would you go gay? I believe NoD called dibs on asking me this one so I'm not going to answer that one just yet.
How many roommates have you had over the years? Thirteen
Do you have any pets? None personally, but here at beautiful chez mes parents there is a wiener dog and an irritating cat.
What did you do for New Year's? Did some barhopping in the hometown. Wound up spending midnight at a bowling alley because I know the bartender.
Last movie you saw in a theater? Christmas on Mars
What was your first job? Kinda asked & answered. My first work-permit job was at a pizza place. Had a paper route and did some babysitting before that.
Who's your favorite talking head on each of the respective news channels? I'll go with Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, Fareed Zakaria on CNN (as much as I'm tempted to say Anderson Cooper,) and Papa Bear over on Fox.
What are some of your favorite words in the English language? swivel discombobulated antidisestablishmentarianism
And the Tyler Durden question: if you could fight any historical figure, who would it be? Teddy Roosevelt, and he would probably kick my ass.
How long ago was your most recent visit to a "gentlemen's club?" About six months ago, when an old friend was up for a visit.
Which video game has taken the most hours of your life? This one's going to require another Top5 list, I'm afraid. Most of them being series.
Sid Meier's Civilization Mario Kart Worms Armageddon Super Mario Bros series SimCity?
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Tetris & the Sims also took up considerable amounts of time, but I don't think enough to make the Top5...
What did you think you'd get asked but didn't?/Any questions you're surprised you haven't been asked? At this point, I'm at a loss...
I'd answer more now, but I'd be late for work... I'm going to draw up a preliminary "Met anyone famous?" list at work tonight... would appreciate a clarification - just names, or stories/pics (the long-winded egotistical self-indulgent version) too?
I'd answer more now, but I'd be late for work... I'm going to draw up a preliminary "Met anyone famous?" list at work tonight... would appreciate a clarification - just names, or stories/pics (the long-winded egotistical self-indulgent version) too?
we'll take the long-winded egotistical self indulgent version, please.
Any big plans for the weekend?* I work every night this weekend, which is part of the price I pay for taking my trip. Last night was the big night. Worked and then went to the show. Ran into five or six people I hadn't seen in too long, got good and drunk and passed out my friend's couch. We finally got to hit up that new restaurant that serves poutine before I stopped home just now. Working again in about an hour, but get done at 9pm. Half-tempted to make the trek out to Milwaukee for the other reunion show. No idea what I'm doing otherwise. Sunday will probably be meh.
Are you circumcised? Not answering this one in this thread, although those of you out there who wish to inquire about my shlong are welcome to shoot me a PM
How many midgets do you think you could successfully fight simultaneously? This one's tough. So much depends on whether you can grab hold of one of them by the limbs and swing him around as a weapon. But the likelihood of that decreases the more midgets you're up against... I'm just gonna pull a number out of my ass and say three.
Who is your favorite president not pictured on money? I'll go with James K. Polk here.
Who's your favorite Republican currently holding elected office? I'll go with Rep. Paul Ryan from Wisconsin's 1st District. He's not too extreme on the social issues so far as I've seen, seems pretty wonky and budget-minded. The kind of Republican who'll actually take a call from my man Russ Feingold.
Who's your favorite Muppet? I always had an affinity for Statler & Waldorf, the old dudes heckling from the balcony. I don't care if some Facebook quiz says I'm Sam the Eagle.
Best gift you've ever gotten? Given? Probably going with my Wii and a Rolling Stones ticket, respectively.
Do you plan on dressing up for Halloween? If so, as who/what? I have no freaking clue.
Who is your favorite radio personality? Stephanie Miller. Love that show, love that woman, even if I don't always/completely agree with her politics. Alice Cooper makes for some good listening too.
Who do you crush on in non-musical areas? Not answering/crossing out this one just yet, just bringing it up to point out that this was my response to NoD volunteering his rock & roll crushes...
Given any thought as to your successor?/Given any thought to your successor?* Back in the first week of the month, I made an offer to Boz & Meg with the stipulation that they agree to do it as a husband-and-wife team. Just got that refusal about a week ago; sounded like Meg wanted to but couldn't talk Boz into it.
