We've finally made it to my last story. It was Halloween 2007; the Foo Fighters had played an acoustic set (with, I'd like to add, Petra Haden) opening for Bob Dylan. After leaving the show and parting ways with my friend, I stopped somewhere on State Street (a mile-long pedestrian thoroughfare between the state capital & heart of UW campus) for some cheap eats. I was walking out with my food, and ten feet to my right and heading my way were Dave Grohl & Taylor Hawkins. I save this for last, because it made me the most starstruck out of any of these encounters. I blew it from the start. My jaw dropped and I said something stupid I immediately regretted, something along the lines of "Holy shit, you're Dave Grohl" as I introduced myself. He laughed and asked me "Are you tripping?" Gave me a moment to (somewhat) regain my composure. I believe they'd been bar-hopping while Dylan played - Dave asked how the show was. I would have offered to buy them a shot right then and there, but between that night's beer and the cheap eats in my hand I was broke. I didn't want to inconvenience them too much longer, so I made sure to express my appreciation for The Colour And the Shape and get a parting handshake before letting them go on their way.
What? No pic? ;D That's pretty awesome man... I met Krist Novoselic at an Eyes Adrift show at Exit/In in Nashville back in... 2002, maybe? At that time he looked eerily similar to the zig zag man.
kdogg, I'm impressed! Dave Grohl is my fantasy celebrity encounter. It would be bad, the things I would do to him if I ever encountered him. In actuality, I would probably cry.
Dave Grohl can have that disarming effect on a person. In that particular case, it probably didn't help that I was drunk and didn't see it coming.
It wasn't one of those situations I could prepare for like some of the other encounters... not like "I know Jeff Tweedy's coming out that door eventually" or "I've got til the end of this song to figure out how to say hi to Lewis Black" or something like that.
So yeah... meeting Dave Grohl probably would make you cry, but he'd also probably give you a hug and make it all better too.
A few additions/updates while my dance card is clear.
1. "Met anyone famous?" omission. Flogging Molly frontman Dave King - I was with a friend at their merch booth at Warped 04. He stopped in quick just for a minute for something business related, and we got to say hi. The young guy working their merch booth totally had to have been his son. Can't believe I went to that up through age 23
2. Favorite English words I originally gave three, and added "penultimate" along the way... going to upgrade it to a Top5er: antidisestablishmentarianism swivel discombobulated penultimate defenestrate
3. Last show/next show Since I have was asked, the "next show" became the "last show." Yesterday, I ordered myself a pair of Flaming Lips tickets for their Milwaukee show April 21st. I will most likely attend something else before then, but probably won't know exactly what before my the end of my reign as BMOTM. Probably some lounge act in Vegas
Which brings me to the matter of March BMOTM. My flight leaves Milwaukee at 9am Sunday, so I won't be around after I check out Saturday night. I won't be around the first week of my successor's interrogation, so I'm curious as to who y'all would like to see next month...
I am opening the floor to nominations. I will take up to three suggestions per person, self-nominations included. I would prefer a PM so as to keep things more organized and discrete, although I'll still count the ones in the thread. I will not personally nominate anyone. Past BMOTMs are ineligible for nomination. I'll check with those not self-nominated, make a list of confirmed potentials to choose from, and choose someone from that list to name Saturday. Since I'm going to have to double-check with nominees, I am imposing a deadline of 12pm Central on Friday.
LRH, I noticed that you completely shrugged off my threat of giving you BMOTM on your birthday... sure you don't want to nominate yourself?
I would like to remind everyone that I'm not done taking questions, either... I just don't have any left to answer at this point. Shame I'm about to leave for work, because I won't be able to answer any more until around midnight. I'd be quite pleased if I could hit 5k by the end of my month, so fire away
How about this for a question. If you could pick one member to be BMOTM who would it be?
Bek, simply because I think it would only be fair for me to ask her every question she's asked me... I'm trying to curb that vengeful impulse by taking the decision (somewhat) out of my hands.
I also think a list of consenting future BMOTM candidates might be helpful for future decisions. I don't think I'd recommend my selection method to any BMOTMs down the line, but I hope someone at some point finds it useful.
Kdogg, how many people from Inforoo have you met in real life? And I mean people that you've met/talked to/hung out with.... you can't count the bazillion folks at the inforoo brunch that you saw mingling but didn't get introduced to

I posted some pics from our Inforoo Lolla08 meetup, re-posting to caption.

I was standing just off camera (to the left of Fishing Maniac, who's saying "you're the one with the camera thread" in the beginning) in this video. Rideincircles was taking the video, Steveternal is to Maniac's right, I can't for the life of me remember at the moment who that was in the red shirt - I have a guess, but suspect it's wrong. I know I also mingled with Handgunhips and Spunday Sensei at this year's brunch, probably more escaping my memory. Outside brunch last year, I know I met up with Hippie to nomnomnom at one of the Thursday tent shows. Met up with Bek later that night at the fountain for some more nomming.
As far as I know, there is only one Inforooster from Madison - hollyanne(#s I can't recall) who doesn't post here too often. In 08, we had some miscommunication and both met in Centeroo thinking the other had discovered corn. Last year, she & her friend joined up with my group's convoy/campsite last year... they might again this year.
Inforoo brunch 08 recollections are bit hazier - I was still new, hadn't met any of you before then, and wasn't so hot on name recollection. I know Troo, dcbee & I were waxing political at one point. I think I first encountered Boz & Meg around the grill. Bunny, I believe, was the one hooking me up with a mimosa. The one in the kilt was clato, if memory serves me right. I know I met purplefuzzystuff at the brunch, later ran into her after Superjam, and went back to primely-located campsite to nom & drink while we listened to the conclusion of the MMJ set.
One of my perennial Bonnaroo friends set up an account here, made maybe five posts and hasn't been around for a year. Given all the talk I've heard from my site-mates the past couple years, I'm surprised only that one and maybe another are onto me... I kinda prefer to keep it that way.

I'm actually surprised they played with that setup, since they got another drummer and moved Pat to guitar. From my experience, weezer doesn't treat a festival set that much differently from their regular touring set... which is kind of why I'm predicting epic fail there. I definitely intend on contacting weezer before Bonnaroo to see if I can help them avoid said epic fail... want me to ask while I'm at it?

awww kdogg, if you pick me for BMOTM it better be because you love me not because you're seeking revenge! I just asked you all those questions to play up to your long winded self indulgent nature. ;D Well that and the fact that you kinda challenged me... I thought it would make you happy.
Anyhow... have some questions (because I haven't asked enough):
1. Other than roo, where is one place you wish you were right now?
2. Coke or Pepsi?
3. What time do you usually wake up everyday?
4. What kind of cellphone do you have?
5. If you could have asked the man, the myth, the legend (JESUS CHRIST) one question, what would it have been?
I suspect this radio show wasn't a regular tour date or in association with one? That might explain the fallback to the vintage set up.
As far as I can tell, they just had that handful of dates in December before the bus crash... I only see one date for them between now and Bonnaroo. Could explain why the new drummer wasn't in tow.
OK, running a bit late for work... will be back in about ten hours.
Thanks for the answer! I like hearing about board members' encounters with each other. I remember seeing you at the brunch, with FM (who I spoke to briefly to ask where LHR was), but I don't think we spoke.
EDIT: I found another video from brunch that you're in, Kdogg (very end, you're sticking a cup ??? into your pocket):

Yes, tis I... Didn't realize I was in any brunch videos out there - I'd only seen the one from the roll call thread which I posted. Let it never be said that I am a litterbug
That was probably the last of my vodka cranberry or whatever it was I had with before my first Glacier Bay. Mmmm Glacier Bay...

1. Amsterdam - scratching the Vegas itch next week. 2. Pepsi, if you're not giving me Dr. Pepper as an option. 3. Noonish 4. LG Venus. Probably the 4th one I've had under this New Every Two period. 5. Whoa... "what would it have been?" You mean he's not coming back in the future? How about "Would you like to nom some corn?"
