my local shop has a copy of The Teaches of Peaches on the first page of their Discogs store. Should I cop?
ok so I know I originally wrote that they sold out of it, but a while later it came back and I managed to actually score a copy of it! Feeling blessed today.
Been waiting this week to see what news My Bloody Valentine was releasing. I got my wish, reissues: Pick it up at Bleep.
E: Woof. Be quick, apparently. Bundles gone. Isn't Anything completly sold out on vinyl. Loveless deluxe is gone. Was a good night for insomnia to kick in.
Went for Amoeba Music’s Hollywood store opening today. The line was ridiculous if you didnt show up at the crack of dawn but got I some decent stuff. Everyone went right after the Daft Punk and hip hop vinyl though.

Do you remember when arrived there, and how long did you have to wait? I'm planning to go this weekend and I'll plan accordingly

i got there at 6:30 am and was in the first group that went into the store. You prob wont have to be that hardcore after today but they cut the line off today at like 5pm cause it was so long. I think Sunday might be a good bet cause its easter and parking restrictions wont be enforced. Other than that judt go on a weekday if possible case itll die down for sure.

Thank you. I heard that some people waited for 4+ hours, which is crazy. I might also just wait for a couple of weeks before going there.

Yeah it was bad. They posted a timelapse if the line before they opened and it grew from that. It wouldnt hurt to wait wither cause they could restock a lot of things they sold. ( they had a fuck ton of kanye vinyl though ) and the line for sellers was ridiculous also. So there should be lots of great finds. Next week the capacity should increase cause of orange tier but it still felt kinda crowded in the aisles. They did try to get people moving by announcing on the Pa that the line was a mile long outside lol
Went to my favorite record shop to pick up a couple of self titled Peter Gabriel records (the first one and “Melt”) and also picked up the Television Personalities compilation Some Kind of Trip (they had a few album reissues as well that I may have to pick up later), but that’s not my big point here...
Was able to get a preorder placed on the upcoming massive The Mars Volta box set. It sold out in no time from the Sargent House website but they said there were still copies allotted to record shops for preorder. So if that comes in, I’m gonna I’ve to do some serious trades for it... it will be nearly $500! But given what it costs to get any version of the first three albums and also what the box set is being scalped for on eBay, I think I can live with that price.

Update again for today. Still a shitshow it seems.
Real question, not being a dick, why would one wait 4-5 hours just to get into a new record store? Like do they have some crazy LE items or something?
Amoeba is pretty much life in southern California. I haven't been in years but it was welcome visit when I was in either Berkley or LA. They shut down in LA right after the pandemic started and just reopened at a bigger location. Lock down and stimulus checks probably has a ton of to do with it.
I also blame RSD for lines to get into a record store.

I blame RSD just for the release madness that comes with RSD and the politics of getting records pressed cause of it. Never had to actually deal with RSD proper cause it normally happens when Im at coachella and they sell records onsite so Ive been able to grab releases right there without the overnight waiting and bs. The new space is actually a lot smaller than the Sunset location. It's only 23,000 sq ft compared to 43,000 for Sunset. It feels like the Haight/Ashbury store but with some creative decisions to get the most out of the space. They did say in an interview that they cut down on how much space they alloted for Cd's for example. I dont even think I saw the reggae/ska/world music section while I was in there.

Yes and no. So for sure this re opening is a huge deal because everyone is really over shopping online for any music at this point. I cant imagine how much more money has been spent on trying to get things shipped now and Ill gladly take the tradeoff of going into a place to instantly get something I want in regards to that. for myself I knew it was the best chance to try and look for some hard to find things because you have zero idea what theyve acquired this whole time they had been closed and they got all their stock at the beginning. Same thing happened when they opened over 20 years ago. I went opening weekend twice and spent hors digging through stuff and found a lot of random and sorta hard to find things. Wasnt really able to try and stay in there for at least a couple hours due to the insane line outside. The other thing is that as time goes on there will be more stuff thats going to end up in there because the line for people selling was pretty extensive and I saw people with multiple boxes of things so its in the back of your mind to come again cause who knows what ends up on the shelves every day. And yeah, this was my first true indulgence after a year of only going to grocery, department and furniture stores cause you gotta do those things. Its gonna die down soon because theyll extend their hours and be able to raise capacity. At this point I wont go back til Im vaccinated ( which wont be long ) and my Gf wants to also go cause she wants to go look for old dvds.
Is the LCD "Christmas Will Break Your Heart" vinyl worth it?
If you think it is, it is. I know it’s kind of a non-answer but fr all records are just vinyl versions of music that we already have (arguably) superior, cheaper, and easier mediums to listen with

Upcoming third man records vault - companion release to White Blood Cells. Looks good.
Announcing Vault package 48: White Blood Cells XX, the companion to The White Stripes’ universally acknowledged 2001 album White Blood Cells and in celebration of the 20th anniversary of its release. This package includes a double LP, disc one containing 13 unreleased demos, outtakes, and alternate mixes and disc two containing a previously unreleased live recording from the band at Headliner’s in Louisville, Kentucky, recorded on September 6th, 2001. The true treat of this Vault package is the hour-long, cinema verite behind-the-scenes peek at the White Blood Cells recording process at Easley-McCain Recording, unseen by anyone in the past two decades, now on DVD. Additionally, the package comes with a 12” x 12” full-color booklet, chock full of rare posters, flyers, and unseen photos. Get a glimpse of the package with audio of "Fell In Love With A Girl (alternate take)" now on YouTube. Subscribe by April 30th at midnight CT to get this package! thirdmanstore.com/products/vault-subscription
In February 2001, Jack and Meg White hopped into their trusty Dodge van and made their way down south to Easley-McCain Recording in Memphis, Tennessee. Inspired and electrified by their recent overseas touring and the increasingly rabid reaction to their live performances, the White Stripes would, for the first time, record an album outside of their hometown Detroit. Interviews at the time had Jack postulating that the record might stretch to a double LP length and while that didn’t happen, the fruit born from the sessions proved markedly unique in the band’s canon.
For a band widely defined by its self-imposed rules, the strictures employed on White Blood Cells (while seemingly overlooked by the general public) are largely responsible for its breakthrough nature. No blues, no guitar solos, no guest musicians, no cover songs, no bass. Think about that and let it sink in. ALL of these elements are used extensively across just about every other studio recording across the Stripes entire career. But as an attempt to deviate from the profile of De Stijl the previous year, these guidelines would help carve out this work of incredible stature.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of White Blood Cells, Third Man Records is privileged to release White Blood Cells XX, the companion to the White Stripes’ universally acknowledged 2001 album.
Disc one contains 13 tracks, all of which are previously unreleased. Building from the ground up, we hear embryonic demos of “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground” and “Offend In Every Way” coupled with songs never previously released in any form, from the full-band studio take on “That’s Where It’s At” (a tune that would later evolve into “I Think I Smell A Rat”) through skeletal sketches of “Oooh-Ahh” and “Feel Like I’m Three Feet Tall” songs both of which would be abandoned entirely. Early Easley mixes of “The Union Forever” and “I Can’t Wait” sit alongside alternate takes of tasty gems like “Fell In Love With a Girl” and “This Protector.” The end result is an LP that provides the unheard work-in-progress nuggets that fans have come to cherish from Vault deep dives. Pressed on red vinyl because the kids love it.
Disc two is a previously unreleased live recording from Headliner’s in Louisville, Kentucky. Recorded on September 6th, 2001 the band is captured mid-stride, having already played approximately 75 shows that year. Killer romps on “Truth Doesn’t Make a Noise” and “Expecting” pair beautifully with refreshing takes on “Boll Weevil'' and “The Same Boy You’ve Always Known.” Utilizing audio straight from the soundboard and pressed on pristine white vinyl at Third Man Pressing in Detroit, this disc is yet another shining example as to how spectacular the Stripes were on stage.
Tagging along on the February 2001 trip to Memphis was upstart photographer David Swanson. During the sessions, Swanson was tasked with documenting the happenings. The true treat of this Vault package is the hour-long, cinema verite behind-the-scenes peek at the White Blood Cells recording process at Easley-McCain Recording. Unseen by anyone in the past two decades, this treasure offers a heretofore unprecedented glimpse behind the curtain revealing how some of your favorite White Stripes songs came to be.
Additionally, as with previous XX Vault releases, the package comes with a 12” x 12” full-color booklet, chock full of rare posters and flyers, unseen photos, shoulda-been thrown away scraps, aura images, broken promises, bruised egos and anything else that could reasonably be depicted on the printed page.
Subscriptions for White Blood Cells XX are available now through April 30th at www.thirdmanrecords.com.

I purchased a bootleg copy of Blond today from my favorite record shop and the guy assured me that it sounded fine etc etc. I was prepared for a bit of quality loss which I was fine with, but it's audibly sped up. To the point where I don't want to listen to it because I can't even sing along to it. Timing's all off. I'm more disappointed than I probably should be.
Edit: Checked with another record and actually my turntable is just spinning too fast. Gonna fix it tomorrow.
Edit 2: We good now. These bitches want Nikeeeeeees

I'm curious if I should do this or just buy some cheap particle board and tack it on the back. The fact everything isn't flush is causing my obsessive-compulsive to kick in.
Also: non vinyl related but I ordered my "office" furniture today. I'm so close to being done.
Depends on how many shelfs you have i guess. You can buy 1/2" sheet of MDF for $25 and cut a lot from that.
I ordered a roll of fat insulation tape on Amazon yesterday. I'm gonna try that out to see if I like it enough to do the rest of my cabinets. I have high hopes.
