I always hated walking up the stairs at home if all the lights were out on the first floor. I don't know why but I always felt like this wolf was going to come out of the darkness and chase me so I would sprint up the stairs.
And I didn't like clowns either because of Poltergeist. I had a stuffed animal almost EXACTLY like the one in the movie and had to get rid of that thing after seeing it.
Funny story...but our kids are 6 and 8 and we let them watch all kinds of 80's movies (within reason of course) but recently we were flipping channels and Poltergeist was on and it was at the very beginning and we started watching it but I turned it before things got too scary because I didn't want them to be traumatized like I was!
I was always terrified that all of my toys were going to come to life and kill me while I slept. I would make maps of where everythign was sitting before bed so I could check and see if they had moved over night.
I wanted to watch them rather than lock them away so I'd know how close the danger was.
I used to love watching Charlie's Angels, and I was allowed to stay up late on the night it came on. I started having terrible nightmares and my parents figured out it was from the show so I wasn't allowed to watch anymore.
Oh and in my early twenties I was terrified that someone would get in my locked car and hide in the back seat floorboard. I would check before getting into my car, which I suppose is reasonable, but then I would check several times while driving, sometimes breaking out into a sweat and pulling into a gas station to get out and get a better look. Even as I was doing it I knew it was crazy but I couldn't help myself.

I used to be scared of holidays. At my birthday or other's birthday I would think "I only have X amount of years to live or my parents have one less year to live." I would also freak on New Years eve. I thought the world was going to end on New Years.
I was, and still am to this day, scared of mirrors in the dark. Around age 8 or something I was introduced to the "Bloody Mary" game and ever since then I was terrified of accidentally summoning her by looking at a mirror in the dark.

I was just coming to post this. Mirrors have some creepy, magic thing going on. I still avoid looking in the mirror when I get up to pee at night and I'm 47. .
