It's too quiet around here... so I thought I'd bring up something to chat about.
I was just wondering what everyone else's experience with the filtered water this year at the Roo was. I didn't try it on Thursday. On Friday, after waiting in a long line, I filled up a bottle only to realize that it had a weird taste. It was a strange almost sweet taste that I couldn't stand. I went back to the sulfur water afterward. I heard from someone that it got shut off later that day for some reason (maybe something was wrong with it?).
On Saturday, I tried it again and was pleasantly surprised to find that it tasted clean, no worse than bottled water. There was also a noticeably shorter line, possibly because people tried it earlier. It seemed fine the rest of the time that I was there. Anyone else notice the weird taste or have any other information on it?
My mom said that she got brown water from it at one point. She refused to drink any water on the farm that wasn't from a sealed bottle after that point. lol I only got it once on Friday morning and it was fine. I pretty much stuck to the water trailers after that because the lines were always long when I went over there.

Hmm, which stations did you use? The two near the What stage gave me great tasting water while the one near That Tent, which I only went to once, gave me the weird tasting stuff.
Can anyone tell me why the sulfer water only exists in Centerroo. All the PODS had great COLD COLD water. But we did use the water stations. It tasted like water.

It really depends on what kind of water that you tapped into when you dug the well. My parents have a farm and they dug two wells on it, one for the house and another to help supply a pond. Unfortunately, the well water for the house is slightly brown with a strong sulfur taste and has to be filtered to be even slightly drinkable. Meanwhile, the well down by the pond is always clear and great tasting with no filtration. They're probably less than 1500 feet from each other and there's a huge difference. I think the wells at Bonnaroo are probably pretty similar.
I filled up either Friday or Saturday from the one in the middle by the Fuse Barn and it was very sulfer-ish. I put some Punch flavored crystal light which kind of made it worse. Needless to say I drank it and it didn't effect me at all.

It seemed like the water pressure was upped every day. Friday was low pressure, causing long lines. Saturday had quick lines. Sunday had little or no line and the pressure almost blew the bottle out of my friends hand. No problems with taste, drank a whole lot from the stations this weekend.
At one point on Saturday, the lines for water at the one by The Other Tent were ridiculous! At least 20 people deep all the way around. I thought the water always tasted great though. I do think it's funny that they designed faucets that are perfect for washing off muddy feet and didn't expect people to wash their muddy feet in them.

I wanted to drag one of those water things home with me. My only complaints were 1) The black filter stuff getting into my camelbak, and B) the aforementioned "blows-it-out-of-your-hands" sudden water pressure increase.

the only one i used was the one by the fuse tent twice, i thought it tasted a little weird and the pressure was super slow for me both times. It was fine for my camelbak though to keep through the day but when I was super thirsty and needed to chug some delicious COLD water, i bought the bottled dasani. Bute in there, I can't bring myself to drink that sulfer stuff from the trough's
i didn't feel like waiting in the lines or wading in the mud, so i mostly filled up at the sulfur station. i filled my camelbak about a million times for water for the boy and i.
I can't stand the sulphur H2O! I know they say its not harmful to drink, but how can something that smells and tastes so foul be good? I brushed my teeth with it and even that made me gag, so I was so happy for the clean water. One of the stations broke down a bit late Sat. night. I went to fill up my bottle and got straight charcoal sludge. Glad they got it working again.
Yeah, in Knoxville we have sweet, not-that-great water, but it's amazing compared to the sulfer water. Also, there could have been more water stations.
the filtered water was good, but nix'ing the water trucks in BFE so they could afford the filtering setup in centeroo went sorely noticed by those that ended up out there. seriously..like no water for a mile

East and Middle TN well water has sulfur in it due to the large limestone deposits in the area. Limestone is primarily calcium, magnesium and iron so as the rain water filters thru the rock it picks these minerals up leading to heavy lime and rust stains in sinks, etc.
Limestone also contains small amounts of sulfur. Unfortunately the human nose can detect very small concentrations of sulfur (hydrogen sulfide actually) and it smells bad. That's why they add it to natural gas so people can smell even very small gas leaks.
Different wells tap different aquifers at differing depths so the water filters thru different layers of sand and/or rock. This affects the mineral levels and taste.
The sulfur is not harmful but stinks and can make you burp up a foul egg taste. I avoid it when it's strong, which it was this year, but will drink it instead of paying $3 for water. Prefered the filtered water though.

I loved the filtered water stations! Every time I filled up there the water was delicious. The lines were really weird though - at one point I stopped at one and the lines were so long I gave up and left, and other times I could just walk right up.
Loved the Chewbacca noises the things made too! Hahaha.
I honestly didn't think I'd have a problem with the sulfur water, but as it turned out I couldn't do it. I drank it when I had to but I avoided it and went for the filtered water as much as possible.
I want to know why there was a 45 minute line on Friday, and why out of the like 15 faucets per station, there were only like two of them that worked?
I used the hell out of them Saturday and Sunday, I'm talking probably once every half hour unless I was at a show, and the water tasted/smelled/looked just fine to me.

I drank sulfur water at roo 2002 and got sick (not horrible sick but enough to put a damper on the afternoon music). I would not recommend drinking any water that has a sulfur smell unless you absolutely have to.
I didn't drink any farm water this year. I brought way more than enough, and I was never asked to dump it from my bag. Also, I had a camelback but always zipped up the hose so they couldn't see it.

I didn't even realize the water I was using was filtered or not filtered. I just saw a water station and filled up my bottle. I thought the filtered water station was reserved for the suckers who paid for a Bonnaroo water bottle? Either way, I usually filled up my bottle and then washed my feet off real quick just to step in the ankle deep mud on my way out. It provided a few chuckles. Go ahead and strangle me for it.
this girl in the shower station at volunteer camping told me not to drink the water from the faucet because it was from a nearby lake...?....... she had no idea what she was talking about and i drank it anyway.
Yeah, people are nuts... I heard a girl tell a guy, "I wouldn't drink that water if I were you?" And he actually looked worried and asked why. I butted in and said that the water tasted great, there was nothing wrong with it and that I've been drinking it all weekend.
