I just think it's corny that certain teams are annointed as contenders and others are just like "welp, pack it in, we're 16-17". Super teams are annoying on a macro level.
I like super teams on the macro level. The 15-19 Warriors, 17-18 Rockets, LeBron Era Cavs, KD era OKC, and LeBron era Heat were the teams that produced the most fun regular-season games because: A. whenever they played each other, it was must-watch and B. other teams got up for games against them especially on National TV. Last year and this year until the Harden trade has been less fun to watch because there wasn't some big team that people were getting up to play against.
Rockets, OKC, and pre-KD Warriors were pretty traditionally-assembled teams, though, not team-ups. The Rockets traded a bunch of stuff to the Clippers for Chris. It was a fair trade. OKC built through the draft and then stupidly traded Harden away. Warriors were drafted, too. KD going to the Warriors was not cool or fun or good for the league, imo. Not relative to having competitive balance.
I'd rather be able to turn on a random NBA game and enjoy watching it than have like 80% of games just be pretty much not worth watching. There are always gonna be bad teams, but knowing that there are basically four or five teams that actually have a shot makes the regular season kind of useless, and the fact that those teams get even better and middling teams get worse isn't ideal to me. It sucks that there are three teams in the East over .500. You'd basically have to be an insanely intense basketball fan to buy the 30-team League Pass.

I believe Chris asked to be traded to the Rockets, similar to AD/PG. Nonetheless, the East does have many very watchable teams right now only the Cavs, Magic, and Pistons are truly bad. Eight teams are within two games of each other, that's NFL/MLB/NHL style parity right there.

I feel like if that were true, Toronto wouldn't be openly discussing shipping out their best player to a select handful of teams.
I think Chris wanted off the Clippers because of Doc but I don't know that he specifically wanted to go to the Rockets.
I think there's a difference between "there's a lot of teams that are pretty good" and "ok, there's only a couple of teams that can really win the title."
It's never going to be the second one because basketball at a high level (i.e., not college) is a sport that can be dominated by one player more than any other sport. There's never been a wide open year
I don't understand how basketball being a sport where one player can dominate is an argument that you can't have more parity if those dominant players didn't choose to consolidate teams. How would there not be more parity if players that basically single-handedly make teams into contenders were on different teams, like KD and Harden. The Rockets would probably still be a contender if Harden hadnt gone to Brooklyn to play with KD, imo. They wouldn't be a favorite but they'd have a shot with this roster.

i've wanted Lowry here for a while. would love it as long as the price isn't too steep.
and y'all are underestimating how stupid it would be to give away Maxey on top of Ben (i.e. the entire future of our backcourt / guard play) and three firsts for a guy that is likely gonna be out of his prime within 3 years. would it make us a more surefire thing to get out of the east this year? yeah. does it make the nets annoyingly stacked? yeah. but im still confident that with the right sets we can beat them in a 7 game series. they have absolutely no one to contend with embiid, and we play insane perimeter defense when everyone is clicking on the same level as Ben.

lets also remember masai ujiri is probably leaving the raptors after this season. they've been a solid team for the last 8 years, got their vet fueled title, and understand a rebuild is just around the corner. its really not that crazy that they want to do good by their most loyal guy and let him try and compete for one more elsewhere.

Idk I think when you have a chance to become heavy favorites to advance to the Finals for a three-year window, which is actually pretty large, you should take it. Maxey is good, I'm a fan because he went to UK and all, but a guy that fell to pick 21 probably shouldn't be the thing stopping you from making that happen.

Never said it was crazy. Totally understand that that's how the league works. My complaint is about how much of that kind of stuff there is.

i just wasn't jonsing to do the trade for Simmons at all tbh. i think y'all are honestly the silly ones for letting Maxey be the deciding factor into not taking the trade that includes a guy that's pretty much a sure thing to end up a 10 time all star and multiple time DPOY when it's all said and done.

I've seen this multiple time DPOY stuff a lot, how does one become a DPOY when hes not even the best defender on his team? I like Simmons a lot as a defender, but I just cant see a universe where he wins DPOY instead of Embiid, let alone Giannis.

Do yall hang banners for that?
it gets me closer to a banner than expiring Victor Oladipo and a bunch of picks for kids that are in Freshman Algebra as we speak

Simmons is a better defender than Embiid. Embiid will get the emphatic blocks and is surely essential to us reaching our peak defensively, but if you watch the sixers on a regular basis you know Ben guards the other teams best player almost all night every night, and just finds a way to smother them. Embiid is at his best defensively when he has a rival big to go at every possession like Giannis or AD. Simmons is just the most reliable and versatile guy in the league right now.
As an aside on the Sixers, I don't really understand why their defense isn't way better. They have three top-tier defenders in Embiid, Simmons, and Green, and yet they are only 10th in the league in defensive efficiency. there's no reason why GSW or the Knicks should be ahead of them
