I regret not compiling my guesses before the lineup announcement last year, so I've added it to my sig as well. I like the logic of this clue pointing to Jay-Z more than I like it pointing to George Jones or anyone else.
So I guess (assuming this is correct) that it doesn't really matter if Jay-Z is currently scheduled for Isle of Wight festival in the UK on Friday, June 11th?
"Why these n!g@$$ always talking Leer talk yet, Why, I never see 'em at the Clearport yet. Why I always hear they at the airport. While, i fly daily like I'm in the airforce." - Jay Z
Isle of Wright on Friday Bonnaroo on Saturday/ maybe Sunday (Snoop) Ain't no thing.
I want to believe so bad, that this is the correct answer. It seems to fit so nicely too.

I don't know where specifically Isle of Wight takes place in relation to US Central time. It's gotta be either that or +6hrs if it's in the UK. for these purposes I'll assume it's 7hrs ahead.
I can imagine the earliest Jay-Z could be on his way out of that would be around midnight Fri/Sat there / 5pm Fri Bonnaroo here. The flight across the pond takes at least 8hrs. That's how long I remember it taking, but if he's AC/Superfly's big pimpin & spending cheese it could be faster than boring civilian kdogg here. (Though John Major was on my flight when I went to Heathrow...)
That would get him off the ground in the U.S. sometime in the early morning hours of Saturday the 12th. I suppose that is plenty of time to get him rested up and ready to take to a Bonnaroo stage by Saturday night.
Hell, the later he plays the more jet-lag may work in his favor. Perhaps the NIN slot?

Dude...a Jay Z saturday late night headliner (similar to NIN last year) might make this one Bonnaroo for the ages!!!!!! Who would even want to play opposite of him though?????

ok so back to the clue....which bands that we have good guesses on for clue one involve a father so far. .. we have dylan....there were a couple of more.
...but I'm mostly just thinking about the likelihood of DJ JD coming up with this as a clue for Jay-Z. I think it's a bit of a stretch, but honestly pretty much everything seems like a stretch to me and I should probably learn to keep my mouth shut and stop saying that.
Jay-Z being the answer to the 1st clue goes against several grains... Using "monkey" in this context has already caused winces, and he'd be a headliner.
Isle of Wight is (I believe) 7 hours ahead of U.S. CST. Once you factor in travel between Isle of Wight to London, then the 6-7 hour flight from London to the east coast, plus airport security, and whatever connecting flight he'd have to take to Nashville, I'd say that Jay-Z is an absolute long shot at best for Roo. And even if he is playing, he is absolutely NOT the answer to the first clue. Not only is he way too big for a first clue (which doesn't really fit for him anyway), but the racial implications there would cause an absolute PR nightmare for Superfly.
EDIT: I know someone pointed it out a few pages back already, but the official Bonnaroo Twitter page posted "Some think I'm tweeting la-la-la-lies, some say this is monkey business. Who do you want to headline bonnaroo 2010?" last night. Which means that the monkey part is pivotal to cracking the clue. And now I'm wondering what the significance behind "la-la-la-lies" is.

first.. pepper you do way too much work with this to be smited... i did my part to help repair that...
second, not a huge jay z fan, but HE IS NOT TOO BIG FOR THE FIRST CLUE!!! You really think he is going to be a headliner?? I think he will be in the 4- 5th spot in the billing, similar to snoop or nin... ( nin spot would be alot cooler.. imo ) AT BEST something similar to the Beasties spot last year...
again, I already stated not a huge fan, so maybe I am just grossly underestimating how "big" it would be... while I put him ahead of Snoop, not by much.. I see alot of the same thing that made me turn away from this last year.. too much forcing clues to be bands you want to be there, not enough solving the clues...
i mean i could jast say warmest monkee is who was hotter than the monkees? the beatles! who was the most "likeable" beatles? by god it has to be mccartney!!
a bit exagerated but i think it proves my point
sorry for my little rant, not trying to offend anyone, so if i do i apologize and blame it on the fact i got my wisdom teeth out friday and STILL cant eat anything besides jello and yogurt...

To those of ypou suggesting there is ANY racial implication to Jay-Z as an answer to the clue, can you please explain how calling MICHAEL NESMITH the warmest monkey is racist?! That is how we got to Jay-Z and there is nothing remotely racist about calling a white guy who is in a band called The Monkees a monkey. The only thing offensive here is the unfounded accusation.

The word "monkey" appears prominently in the clue. If Jay-Z is the answer the wording of the clue was at the least insensitive, and should've caused pause in the mind of the author. More racist would be the author using the word "monkey" to play on audience racial sensitivity. Pepper herself said she should keep her mouth shut. (I assume she was talking about the racial implications.)

first of all with the amount of money that Jay-Z has and the amount that Bonnaroo has to spend, i really doubt Jay-Z is going to be flying on a regular plane havin to worry about connecting flights, etc.
if hes comming to bonnaroo via a private jet, and im sure theres a private airfield somewhere near isle of wright fest, at the very least closer then london. so you can go ahead and take that part out of the equation.
as far as monkey being racially incentive, well if it was calling Jay-Z a monkey, well then you would be right, but thats not what the clue is doing.
and also as far as the clue and the bonnaroo twitter using monkey, its two different people. so chances are it has nothing to do with DJJDs clue.

The monkey part of the clue, using the logic used to assume Jay Z is the answer, doesn't refer to Jay z. The offspring part refers to Jay Z. I don't think there is anything offensive about it at all.

Okay, but even with the private jet factored into the equation, it's still a very tight squeeze. I stand by my 'long shot' statement.
And that tweet has everything to do with DJJD's clue. That Twitter page is the official Bonnaroo Twitter, which is featured on the front page of bonnaroo.com. DJJD is the DJ for Bonnaroo Radio, also from the official Bonnaroo site.

You have to view the clue as a whole. I would hazard to say most people on this board would know what you mean if you say, "the monkey clue." Is Jay-Z the answer to the monkey clue?
When authoring a clue, the answer to which is a person of color, most people will avoid the use of the word "monkey." If you use the word, I have to think you might consider the use insensitive. Or, by using "monkey" in the clue for Jay-Z, you're betting the racial sensitivity of your audience will cause them to reject Jay-Z as a possible answer.
Jay-Z costs more than he is worth. When he came and played at the University of Arizona he charged $750,000. He would likely charge a fest upwards of $900,000.

they are still 2 different people. just because bonnaroo's twitter page uses the term monkey, doesnt mean that it has to do with DJJDs clues.

If you say "Jay-Z is the answer to the monkey clue," that sounds really insensitive. What I wonder is if the author purposefully used a racial stereotype in a backhand manner? I would rather hope he was just a tad bit insensitive.

The issue I have with that line of thinking rburro, is that according to it the solution to this clue can in no way, shape or form be anyone who is not white. To me that has more predjudicial implicvations than calling a dude in a band called The Monkees, a monkey. I think most people can see that noone is calling Jay-Z a monkey, but I can also see how referring to the clue as the" monkey clue" and then saying Jay-Z is the answer could cause some confusion on that count for people who don't know the whole clue and how the answer was arrived at. I certainly was not intending to be insensitive to anyone and only meant to refer to Nesmith as the monkey. Either way, this clue has now become a minefield and I think I'll just wait for the next one.

I would think twice before using the word "monkey" in a clue where the answer is a person of color. You could think of a billion other clues to arrive at the same answer without having to step in a minefield. It seems unnecessarily reckless.
I am trying to find the connection between Ringo Starr appearing and his offspring son Zak Starkey who is currently the drummer for The WHO.
Any thoughts on this
I posted this on the 17th and got shot down for it rather quickly. Ringo will be touring this Spring. I am still trying to find a Beatles/Monkees correlation to make it a solid guess. (other than the fact that Ringo was in a Pizza Hut commerical with the Monkees)
^^^keep at it. I have come to the conclusion that you can make these clues fit anyone. We even had acts to Jess' fake clue. So that is why I don't even try. That and I am lazy as hell ;D
Clue 1 came out via Radio Roo, right? So it was an audio clue. Isn't it possible (likely even, given where it lead us) that it wasn't 'the monkey who was warmest' but 'the Monkee who was warmest' which would eliminate the controversy, I think?
