The missing link is commonly considered a monkey, a singular monkey. The one monkey connecting primitive apes/monkeys to man in the chain of evolution.
I know what the missing link is, but as I said, "the monkey" would already refer to one monkey, one missing link, one anything. So if there is some significance to the word "one" in the clue, it's more than just the fact that it's one monkey, it's one out of a group, or it's referring to another number somewhere, or something like that.

A link is defined as "one" ring or loop in a chain.
Clue #1: The one monkey that was the warmest and his offspring
My Guess:
Les Claypool and one of his projects (his offspring) like the Oddity Fair or The Fearless Flying Frog Brigade
Les Claypool can be considered the front man of Primus
"Primus began as Primate...When another band called "Primate" threatened legal action, the group decided to change their name.[citation needed] They settled on the name "Primus." The word is Latin, meaning "chief" or "first" " (wiki)
Claypool as front-man of Primus is therefore the warmest monkey and his offspring can be any one of his projects

*sigh* This is the third time you've repeated the same argument, which still does not answer my question. Bonus points for getting more condescending each time. I'm done.

I adore this idea! I love Les! He does have the monkey mask!!!

Ooh, good thinking squirrel.
I wish I could remember what clues sparked so much Claypool discussion in 2008. I think maybe I'm missing some of the clues for the 2008 lineup additions on the website, but I'm not positive...I'll have to look into it tomorrow or something. Anyway, I'm pretty sure there was some stuff involving monkeys that had everyone thinking Claypool or Primus or something similar, which turned out to be right. And if that's the case, I'd be surprised if he's using monkey clues for Claypool again, but you never know. If it wasn't for that I would say Claypool was an excellent guess, but as is I'm not sure.

I'm certainly not trying to be condescending. "The monkey" is not specific enough to describe "the missing link." The missing link is "the one monkey" that forms an integral part in the chain of evolution that contains many monkeys leading to man. But hey, I'm probably wrong anyway so sweet dreams.

Hmm. So if it was referring to Claypool, and the "offspring" indicated one of his bands....which one? He's got so many that if it was one of them, I can't see DJ JD not specifying somehow. But I don't know if any of them would make more sense for "offspring" than another.
I also don't really know anything about Les, so I don't know if all of his various projects are really options, so maybe there aren't as many choices as I'm thinking. I tried checking his site and there's a column for "with" in his tour schedule and none of the shows have anything listed, so it looks like the only shows he has scheduled right now are solo shows.
I'm not to familiar with Primus, or Claypool. Could the Offspring part be referring to the full band Primus. With Claypool as the warmest monkey and the rest of Primus as his offspring. or do they not play together anymore?

That's where I got stuck as well. I Thought I would put my idea out and see if anyone else has any luck! From what I can tell, he was last touring with Matisyahu - which wouldn't make much sense to this clue, I don't think... Previous to that was the Oddity Fair which included at times The Yard Dogs Road Show, who have performed at 'roo before. So it's possible for them to return.
His Tour dates only go up to March so far, so there's luck he could be in the States by June
I wouldn't count Primus out as a possibility either, it would be a nice surprise since they haven't played 'roo since 2004

Haha I saw the thing about Matisyahu too! But yeah, I can't connect that to the clue at all. That was why I checked his tour dates, to see if he still was touring with Matisyahu, but I guess he isn't anyway.
Hmmmm. Of course, I guess this theory is just the same as another project for anyone from any monkey-themed band - Arctic Monkeys, Gorillaz, etc etc. I'm still wondering if there isn't some other interpretation of warmest that would make one option stand out. Or maybe it's the past tense we need to think about - if the monkeys were Primus, Les still IS the one warmest monkey, right? Primus still exists, at least at times, and when it does Les is still the front man. I tried looking into former members of Primus and nothing really jumped out at me, though.

Sigh~ I think you guys are over-thinking with this clue...soo...I'm going to change my answer back to George Jones. It's simple enough and there are no funny logics to get into the clues. I like the Arcade Fire guess, but it seems everybody is going into circles with this guess without any help from djjd. So, George Jones it is. If I'm wrong, sue me.
Something I thought about when I first heard about Claypool and his Oddity Fair, was sparked by my hopes for the Bonnarogue tent to return. I know Claypool has been involved with Bonnaroo a lot over the years and I thought how awesome it would be if they created the tent around Claypool's Oddity Fair, which he considered sort of a mini fair, with acts that would be plausible in a small tent like the Bonnarogue tent.
This was just a fun dream, but in a recent article interviewing Ashley Capps on Consequence of Sound, Capps mentioned this: "I loved the Cabaret experience which we haven’t had in the last couple of years but we are talking about reviving."
I think you guys are over-thinking things and grasping straws. I like the Curious George and his offspring part therefore equals to George Jones with his daughter Georgette Jones.
Besides he's available Bonnaroo weekend and is touring from east coast to west coast:

I don't get the warmest monkey/curious george connection. I wouldn't consider popularity being associated with warmth. But I would like to see the possum at Roo. Don't know if he could handle the heat. He is getting up there and is way outta shape these days.

Oh, I'm SURE I'm overthinking things - I always am! It's damn near impossible to shut me up but I am completely useless at clue solving. DON'T WORRY, I'm aware of it! ;D

There was a show in the late 70's called BJ & The Bear where "The Bear" was actually the name of his monkey. The monkey rode around with BJ in a heated 18 wheeler which would make him one warm monkey. This show was a product or offspring of NBC. Another product or offspring of NBC around that time was Grizzly Addams.
Clue #1: The one monkey that was the warmest and his offspring
My Guess:
Les Claypool and one of his projects (his offspring) like the Oddity Fair or The Fearless Flying Frog Brigade

Even if not Primus, a side project for "offspring" is a good idea
i am at a loss and am very confused figured I would down a bottle of absinthe and expand my mind for these clues now I am ready to do that sammurai suicide deal can I please just wake up after I pass out and you can figure it out plese? I do not want to try and read these things again when I have a hangover (but I did get Mike Tysons tiger locked up in my bathroom!!!!!!!!!) goodnight and I hope I do not have to resort to a lobotomy

I grew up worshipping Rock and Roll like a religion. I know its shortcomings and strengths but have loved it unconditionally all the same since I was eight-years old. I ran away and joined the circus and honestly, I'm still as obsessed as I was as a boy. I'm not a kid anymore but I still remember how it felt and it doesn't really feel all that different to me now.
I hope I am the warmest monkey!!!! Ive seen Neil twice and he is amazing!!!
but what about this: (acting this out helps with the answer!)
of the three monkeys which is warmer?
* Hear no evil * See no evil * Speak no evil
Now if you told that monkey who the headliner is, what would his first response be?
THE ?
Is the hear no evil monkey the warmest? ('Cause he's covering his ears.) So, we're looking for a musician with bad hearing? Les Claypool is deaf in one ear. Link Wray had to play loud to overcome his partial deafness. I'm sure there are others. Which "one?" Which monkey was the most deaf? But, then he wouldn't need to cover his ears... I'm chasing my tail.
Bill Laswell has an album titled "Hear No Evil." He's played with and produced tons of musicians. Maybe he'll host a stage?

The hear no evil monkey is the warmest 'cause he has his ears covered. If you tell him who the headliner is, he responds, "who?" Told multiple times, his responses will be "who?" "what?" "who?" "what?" Who on What?
