Did we ever find anybody in cali to go to the Julia Nunes shows these past two nights? I don't know if the offer is valid but there are 3 more shows beginning with Seattle tonight, then Minneapolis Monday & Chicago Tuesday. I feel like we had at least one twin cities poster in this discussion, am I right? If so you should totally hit up the show and meet djjd in person for another clue! I've got your crunchies if you can make it happen.
sorry no help on this one... but im going to go with the person who saidthe strokes... it semi makes sense, and i would be pretty damn happy if it were them... but doesent casablanca have a solo cd out now? but I also read they were playing another fest this year.. sorry cant remember which one, it was prob in this thread though
and pepper maybe? someone said it cant be van halen because they are "too big" for a first clue.. remember, before i was chased away by the snoop bashers last year.. snoop was the first clue... i doubt van halen would be booked any higher than he was...
this is no help at all i know, sorry got widsom teeth out so im working on 2 days of little sleep, no food, and loooots and lots o' vicodin!
i give up for now because i just try to make everything be paul mccartney... or radiohead of course.. and i dont think either fit...
Arctic Monkeys and Strokes are highest on my wish list for this one..
I will be in Minneapolis on Monday but I am going to a Devildriver/Goatwhore/Suffocation show so I wouldn't be able to make it to Julia. I wonder if BigLou or MonkeyMonkeyJoyJoy could pull it off...
From wiki; 'The word "fetus" is derived from the Latin word for "offspring."' The warmest monkey of the hear, see, speak no evil monkey trio is the hear no evil monkey. He's covering his ears making him both deaf and warm. The band Foetus' first album was titled "Deaf," released on Self Immolation Records. I gotta take a break from this psychosis.
I think you guys think way too much into these clues. I wasn't paying attention to clues last year, but were they that in-depth? and general you have to think. It has to be something easily connected. The way you are trying to solve them, seems like you are tI don't think the Arcade Fire guess is correct, but I think that's how broad hinking in circles and confusing yourselves. But, I don't know, as I said I don't have experience with these clues, so you would know better than I. PMO
One of the clues last year involved someone finding a flyer in a bathroom in a bar in West Virginia. (And I believe that was only for half of the clue.) Yeah, sometimes they end up being a lot of work. ;D
I wish I could remember what clues sparked so much Claypool discussion in 2008. I think maybe I'm missing some of the clues for the 2008 lineup additions on the website, but I'm not positive...I'll have to look into it tomorrow or something. Anyway, I'm pretty sure there was some stuff involving monkeys that had everyone thinking Claypool or Primus or something similar, which turned out to be right. And if that's the case, I'd be surprised if he's using monkey clues for Claypool again, but you never know. If it wasn't for that I would say Claypool was an excellent guess, but as is I'm not sure.
On the artist profile for Les Claypool on the Bonnaroo site there is a picture of Les and a monkey. The monkey is under a bush in the shade. Les is standing out in the open, so he is the warmest/warmer monkey, comparatively. His offspring could be a reference to the small monkey in the picture; See: www.bonnaroo.com/artists/les-claypool.aspx
It appears the entire clue was derived simply by looking at this picture:

Yeah, actually i took a look at the clues from last year on plastic pepper's clue page. they look like tons of work. Kudos to those of you that can crack them. I don't think I will be much help, but I do enjoy reading your ideas! I can't believe there were so many! If history is going to repeat it's self, this Sub-board will be exploding the next three weeks.
Do you think the word WAS plays more importance in the clue. It seems like most are looking for the monkey that IS warm, but WAS insists he isn't anymore.

The picture described by the clue is several years old.

Yep that was me. I was thinking of VH as bigger than Snoop, but I'm pretty horrible at judging how "big" acts are so I could easily be wrong about that. Although I don't think we thought of any way Eddie could be the one warmest monkey anyway.
Lots of good guesses flying around here...can't wait for DJ JD to get back home so he can maybe give us some help!

Well.....J.G. Thirlwell on the farm. That would be the day! I still have my Foetus albums.

Answer to clue no.1 is Les Claypool. I'm 99% on that.
Edit: To dispel any misunderstanding, I was disparaging *my* own guess for Foetus being the answer. Thank you, monkeyjoy, for entertaining my guess, but both you and I know there's little chance Foetus will be on the farm.

"All in all, the creative act is not performed by the artist alone.. the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his contribution to the creative act." -- Marcel Duchamp

Uh, can I just remind everyone that no matter how confidant you are in your own answer, that doesn't mean that it's right or that everyone else agrees with you? There's no need to disparage anyone else's guesses or act like you can just declare the clue solved because you think your own answer's the best.

I agree. Les Claypool wasn't *my* answer. Your comments spurred me on to investigate the Claypool-monkey connection. I also remembered the connection had been made for earlier Claypool clues in a previous year. I tossed out all of my own guesses (which I thought were plausible) in favor of some one else's Claypool guess, which I thought was very tenuous at first. I stated I'm not 100% on this guess, but everything fits.

Ooh, I'm inspirational! Haha. ;D
Does anyone know where that Claypool pic comes from? Is it an album cover or something? Seems like a weird pic to just be a normal photo, but then we are talking about Claypool...haha. Anyway, I'm curious about the pic. All I can find about it (well, all I can find with the very small bit of google-research I just did) was that it was taken at Rancho Relaxo, so I guess maybe it is just a normal pic.
I'm mainly wondering because I don't know what that thing actually is - the weird monkey thing. I guess a monkey would make sense given Primus and all, but it's not like it's a definite monkey, lol. Between that and the fact that it isn't really in the shade, the connection from there to Les being the warmest monkey is a bit tenuous for my liking - I'm not sure if that's a monkey, and Les isn't really warmer than it.
I'm also still somewhat doubtful that DJ JD would return to Claypool-monkey connections after they figured in to the 2008 Claypool clues so much. Especially something as odd as basing it on this one picture - of all the things to choose, would he be likely to choose that one picture when it meant the clues would be awfully similar to the last ones? Maybe, I don't know. Since this is only our third year of clues, we've never been in the position of getting clues for an artist we had other clues for in the past. So there's no way of knowing if he'd be more likely to make the clues completely different so they wouldn't be too easy, or make them share some common thread so we'd have an additional hint if we figured it out.
Oh boy....yeah I'm definitely looking forward to DJ JD returning to the Radio Roo studio in hopes of some feedback of some sort. Pretty sure I'm just talking myself in circles here as it is.
