Wait, I posted that before I saw this. Nevermind, don't stop. This is good.
Who specifically are you referring to with "they?" All of the bands on the lineup? This lineup has such variety that I really have no idea what you're talk about here.
Also, please elaborate on this particular sound that will not last long.
not talking about any bands in particular. just the whole indie thing. people like the stuff because it's not mainstream and trendy, but by so many people being of that mindset, it itself becomes a trend. not many indie bands last that long. any time a sound becomes popular there are immediate clones and then you have a bunch of bands that soundalike and it's all the rage for a while. then soon it's on to another sound that replaces it. rinse, wash and repeat.
And some jam fans don't like jam bands because it's what their pals like and what's "cool" in their social circle?
Look, it doesn't matter what type of music it is, there are always going to be people listening to certain bands because they want to fit in or they think it's cool. Maybe it's more common with the "indie" type bands, but even then, it's irrelevant. There are a lot of people, in any type of genre, who genuinely love the music. I happen to love a lot of the bands on the Pitchfork lineup, and find it worth it to pay $40/day to go see them. I also love a lot of the bands on the Bonnaroo lineup. However, there aren't enough that I love or haven't already seen for me to pay $300. Some people may think it is and that Pitchfork isn't worth the price. Hey, great. Everyone has an opinion. But to single out a type of music because some of it's listeners aren't listening genuinely is besides the point. Maybe there will be a bunch of people at Pitchfork who are just there to look cool. But there will also be a lot thrilled at the chance to finally see and sing along to Pavement

sang, the hypocrisy in your posts here is so blatant and irritating. You sound like more of a pretentious tool than any "indie kid" I've ever encountered. You're not hated, just completely retarded.

$90 tickets sold out right away but it's still only $120. Pavement especially is making this sell fast. All things considered this is the best lineup of a US festival this year. It's awesome how the city gives them money from the arts foundation so they can keep the price this low.

Really? Where did you hear that? I always thought it was the numerous sponsorships keeping the price low.

I'm sure the sponsors don't hurt. I heard it on the coachlle board, pitchfork music festival thread. This was fairly recently so I'm sure you can find it. I think it was bmack who said it. I haven't ripped on inforoo in awhile and I'll try to refrain so I'll just put it quite plainly. There is much more, better information on that board than this one in general.
Additions are KILLER. Big Boi, Robyn, Liars, The Tallest Man On Earth, Wolf Parade, Delorean, Real Estate, jj, Major Lazer, Beach House, Neon Indian, Surfer Blood, Washed Out, Best Coast???? Hellz yes

Plus monklish just got banned so all of you people who are so opposed to getting insulted through the interwebs can dabble over there in a little more peace now.
Hey now...Can't find anyone to go with me, and I want to see Friday. I was thinking of taking my son. He's 8, has been to shows and went to Taste of Randolph Street with us a couple of years ago. Is this something that is doable with him? Do they have a kiddy area like lolla? He is the coolest and I think it's time we did something like this on our own. Let me know.

I think an 8 year old would be all right. They don't have a kid area, but there are booths in tents and lots of shade trees, so you could get out of the heat if need be. Friday is a shorter day on the music schedule too, so that might be easier for a kid to handle.
The only issue I can think of is that in recent years it's been pretty crowded, but if he can handle Taste of Randolph without getting overwhelmed I bet he'd be okay.

I saw plenty of parents with younger children there last year. Yeah, it's crowded, but you can hang towards the back of the lawn, hear and see the music just fine, and have plenty of room to spread out on the lawn. Also, if you hang back closer towards Ashland, there are a few sets of bleachers that you can sit on. There are no kids areas, but I'd still say it is kid-friendly. Plenty of shade, lots of food options, cool record fair in the back.
Got my ticket today. Just got to get some Cubs tix for Sat. Stupid Phillies. Anyone have any ideas for getting decent tix to the game? Craigslist seems to be the best bet. Sorry off topic.

Going to Pitchfork for the 1st time this year. Does anyone know a good place to get info about it? Ive checked the Pitchfork site and it doesnt have much info. How many stages are there? what are the set times like? Do the main acts overlap, i.e Pavement and Big Boi playing at the same time like at Lolla? Thanks in advance.

There are three stages - A, B, and C. A and C are sort of opposite each other on a big field - not that big, though. If you stand between the stages, you can see them both just fine. Those stages alternate acts all day and don't overlap.
The B stage is smaller and set back in a sort of wooded area. That one will conflict with A or C, though the schedule tends to be staggered so that you can catch a few minutes of an act on B and walk back to A and C for a full set.
Pavement and Big Boi won't be playing at the same time. Likely Big Boi on the C stage right before Pavement closes A. A is the main stage.
The grounds aren't very big at all so it's easy to make your way between the stages.
Here's last year's map of the grounds; it's been set up like this the past couple years so I'd be surprised if it's much different this year. This year's map and schedule should be out within a week or two.
