this is the worst INDIE year ever wolfman. wake up.
Missing: Spoon, Arcade Fire, Surfer Blood, Pavement, Joanna Newsom, Beach House, Cat Power, Drive By Truckers, Fleet Foxes, Interpol, The Strokes, Broken Social Scene, The New Pornographers, Los Campesinos!, Yeasayer...
...all of these acts will have 2010 albums/tours
Phish will most likely tour this summer. Why not bring them back? I've barely seen it mentioned.
...and if you want to go "pop", you can do it a bit more tastefully or better...like tell me you wouldn't at LEAST take Gorillaz and The Killers over KOL and Weezer.
Weezer over the Killers, and Gorillaz over KOL, but I would also take Leonard Nimoy singing his greatest hits over KOL . In all fairness I would go see Gorillaz for all the crap I give them they do seem to have an interesting show, it is just not something I would seek out. I guess I do not really know enough about indie, and tend to lump a lot of stuff into that group.
I will say the Country part of the lineup is pretty good this year, I am really looking forward to Prine, Kris, and Zac Brown.

some of you are filling our heads with nonsense, we're not getting 2 more headliners, or 3-4 subheadliners. Expect one sub (hopefully SCI or Arcade Fire) and a few more indie acts (Spoon, Surfer Blood, Yeasayer), and not much else.
every year we speculate about a big add, and every year it does not happen. The backlash this year is big (probably because Neil Young backed out/postponed his announcement) so they will make amends with one decent size act. I'm not trying to suppress hope on the board, but we need to get realistic, this may be what we get this year.
I'm still going to enjoy myself, kick loose with my friends, see plenty of great acts and meet some awesome peeps. Lets at the very least brighten those attitudes, we're going to the farm to have fun and leave behind our mundane lives right?
If Spoon, Surfer Blood and Yeasayer add on after an Arcade Fire announcement, consider my naysaying put to rest. Even String Cheese Incident might be interesting to check out too considering that jam bands aren't necessarily my thing. I doubt any of those get announced though. Sigh.
Yeah, I think the so-called "indie" genre is pretty poorly represented this year.
There's a lot of good indie bands out there, but there are few of them on the lineup. How about:
Built to Spill ? Black Mountain? Black Moth Super Rainbow ? Constantines ? The Hold Steady ? Interpol ? Klaxons ? Les Savy Fav ? Liars ? Man Man ? Metric ? Mountain Goats ? New Pornos ? Silver Jews ? Sonic Youth ? Sparklehorse ? YACHT ? Yeasayer ?
Oh, and where the phuck is WEEN? Can we get them back already?
tobiasfunk. have fun with your Make Believe, Red Album, and Raditude albums you fool.
I'm sorry but even The Killers have more indie cred than Weezer.
"Smile Like You Mean It" for instance is better than ANY single Weezer song.
This isn't a matter of indie cred? Pinkerton in its entirety is better than the killers' entire body of work. Yes, weezer has degraded with age, but "human", is probably the worst song I've heard in quite some time, and both of my parents regularly enjoy christian contemporary rock.

Funny thing about Pinkerton. I used to have this thing in college when the arguments turned to music and we got to Weezer. I told my friends, "beware of the Pinkerton people". Why? Well, the blue album sold 4 million copies and it was a debut so people were definitely ready to buy the next Weezer album.
Upon Pinkerton's release it didn't even go gold (500,000 copies) until a year after the album's release....yet at every single party i went to the number of people claiming they loved Pinkerton more than the Blue Album were like 4 to 1. I smell hipster bullsh*t there people.
Kind of cynical, but there's a grain of truth to that I find. Pinkerton seems to be the go to for people who want to have something they think is unique to say about Weezer, BUT I find it to be a damn good album. Better than the Blue Album? Tough to call. But just because someone's favorite Weezer album happens to be Pinkerton is not always a tell tale sign of bullcrap.

most of the bands on the lineup are either: 1. rap/hip hop/reggae 2. country/bluegrass 3. hard rock/metal
seems like theres a serious lack of rock and roll, indie bands, jambands and folk
latenights should be pretty good though, with bands like lcd, deadmau5, lotus, bisco and deacon
they just went overboard in booking a ton of bands from a few genres rather than spreading it out covering all types of music
i also think the lineup can't get any worse. there will be additions. great bands will be added. bands i hate will be added
this lineup just feels weird, doesn't seem like something roo would do. i thought 09's lineup was by far the best they've ever put together and this '10 lineup is no where close to being anything like that. i understand they've got to change things and all that stuff, but whatever. i'm tired.

I smell good taste in music. It's completely ridiculous to deny my enjoyment of an album based on the fact that other people like it as well. While I realize that you are attempting to validate your point with the use of record sales, I would like to also remind you that we live in an age of piracy. In closing, I would like to add that your initial reaction to my statement was not that the killers were better, but simply that they had more "indie cred". To quote a wise man, "I smell hipster bullsh*t there people."

haha weezer-hipster lol, NO. Why are we arguing about weezer? They make Kings of Leon look like solid musicians. tobias, christian contemp. rock is better than weezer. And for the record... so are the Killers.
i base this upon the fact that i only know music people, and these people think weezer is a joke. literally. no seriously. like a knock knock. joke. yeah. period. redundant period. period.

+1 for this post. not only is 'human' a terrible song, but im pretty sure i read somewhere that brandon flowers said it was the best killers song so far. yuck. the blue album+pinkerton>>>>>hot fuss+take your pick of killers albums.
that being said, i wouldnt pay money to see either one today, and dont really care to see either one on a Bonnaroo lineup

lol yes, to quote a wise man indeed! I'll take your not so subtle diss and laugh it off with this red wine in my hand.
Living in an age of piracy? Really? In 1996? I don't think so.
You were the one who made the absurd post about fart noises and yetis being better than the Killers...i responded appropriately.
CMD...couldn't of said it better myself.
"Pinkerton seems to be the go to for people who want to have something they think is unique to say about Weezer"
I was 11 in 1996, clearly I was not a fan immediately upon the records release. This argument is neither topical, nor "constructive" as the title of the thread suggests. I'm done for now, but I can assure you that my affinity for pinkerton has nothing to do with my desire to be unique. If it was my desire to appear as such I certainly wouldn't be running around proudly labeling myself as a weezer fan...

so as a diehard wilco fan, i have a hard time saying this, but, you got no clue what you're talking about...
pinkerton, the blue album, even the abismal raditude, is better than anything the killers have done, save "indie rock n roll" and that was a BSIDE!
dya and age was shite. brandon flowers will agree when the put out their next album, he always does. he is a tool/hipster/forgotten musician. their biggest accomplishment still seems to be a vh1 fashion award. Now that's indie cred. go back to refreshing their website for new album updates. your time is better spent there instead of arguing a baseless statement.
I am not being overly negative, Im sorry you live in a world that does not tolerate dissent. It is not like I am saying Phil is never coming back, or that shakedown will suck. Or even saying I wont go, I am addressing the fact that to me the lineup seems overly weak this year. I am sure there is actually still a place on this board for polite discussion of all things bonnaroo like isn't there?
Uhhh, what are you talking about? Grover Cleveland never said ANYTHING about not tolerating dissent or shakedown sucking.

yeah yeah fellow wilco fan bash me endlessly. I don't LOVE the killers ok...i originally stated that if Superfly was going to go pop they would be better served with Killers/Gorillaz over KOL/Weezer. I stand behind that statement 100%. Flowers being douchey, a fashion award, blah blah...it doesn't really fit in the argument. Yes, "indie rock n'roll" is a great track and is offered with 2 other b-sides on the extended version of Hot Fuss...which i might add, is a better album than Pinkerton.
Let's give me some credit. I brought Surfer Blood, The New Pornos, and Los Campesinos! INTO this argument and now ppl are jumping on board..."oh yeah add them". Broken Social Scene and !!! saved 08...i saw it with my own eyes.
also, as i said in another thread this a.m., this lineup has lots of typical 'roo in it. seems people have forgotten?
we got jack white, kol (in thier fourth appearance), les, dmb, the lips,mmw... all bands that have played before... we have legends, indie, and exciting late nights in store....
these are all things roo always has... that undercard is being flat out ignored, i feel
Post by summerteeth99 on Feb 11, 2010 2:41:34 GMT -5
yeah mr. wolfatthedoor i skipped my buddy jack white and the raconteurs to see !!! and i don't regret it one bit. I was able to get right up front, shake it, and bask in the awesomeness. I was in shade, i was able to hold my spot for MIA and on and on...what an afternoon.
agrees w this.... but i guess then they can say "I saw them before homeboy died..."
also, i saw the gorillaz on their first us tour... fantastic show... don't really need to see them again.... but if "pop" is what you're looking for, it doesn't get much better than kol/=W=... the killers can really diaf...
if it weren't for that summerteeth icon, i'd really be questioning your integrity...
Post by awolfatthedoor on Feb 11, 2010 3:05:06 GMT -5
Uh pop can get a whole, whole lot better than KOL. I'm sorry if that was sarcastic because I'm a little too shaken by that statement to tell if sarcasm is involved.
