and truthfully i love seeing bobby and phil but if you really want to see a high energy dead show dark star is where its at. it sounds silly to say that. and its cool to see the og's but dso has the energy that just cant be found at bobby and phil. for me anyhow. age has caught up with both of them.
ditto. I'm going to All Good and Dunegrass this summer and selected those over other options because of DSO. I can't wait to see them at Bonnaroo next year! (mark my words...you heard it here first...etc...etc...)
2 nights of dark star at fall hookahville too. thats not too far from ya. the lineup isnt out yet but hookah announced it at spring hookahville. and of course gratefulfest. thast their fest. 4 nights of dso at nelson ledges. i cant friggin wait. and that jerry celebration to kick off gathering of the vibes. thats gonna be insane. its a big year for dso. and they are playing twice at fests with bobby. i hope to see a sit in. but i doubt it. that dunegrass is 2 hours from where i live now. thast a killer lineup for michigan. but ill be at jerry's bash at sunshine daydream. cant wait to hear how dunegrass is though. a fest on lake michigan with a killer lineup is a dream come true for me. i hate to miss it.

I'm sorry, Bonnaroo is not "all about the Dead". Even when it started it wasn't all about the Dead. If you want to go to something that is....go see the Dead. Bonnaroo is about music of all sorts, and that's what I'll be there to see!
yeah, Jam in the Dam too...and they're on Jamcruise next year. I'm happy for 'em.

He might...I'm pretty sure he has sat in with them a time or two before...I could be wrong.
I might have to hit up hookahville. I've got a couple vacation days to play with since f.u.n.k. fest is cancelled.
I'd love to go to Gratefulfest sometime but someone at work with more seniority always takes that 4th of July week. The band loves it there - it's like their home field.
I agree with dudewheresmyroo??? I'm a huge deadhead, always have been, always will. But I don't go to Bonnaroo to see the Dead. If you want Dead check out one of the other fests. I'm a fan of the Gathering of the Vibes myself. This year will be my third Roo and my third Vibes (last year was the first time I did both). Both fests are completely different experiences. The Vibes this year DOES have Bobby headlining Saturday night. They also have DSO Thursday night. If you haven't seen 'em, definately check them out. Mickey is there with his band and Donna will be there with hers (formerly a GD cover band I might add). Go to Roo and have a kickass time checking out some new music. Then hit up the Vibes in August for your Grateful Dead fix.

i go to jerrys birthday every year hell the guy that throws that party trip mcclenny is a good friend of mine i go to grateful fest and all good every year too i like the line up....but im a jam band fan first and i think bonnaroo created a fan base with the grateful dead in mind and anyone who said that bonnaroo isnt about the dead at all lets look at the headliner of the enitre show every year but this one
This year will be my third Roo and my third Vibes (last year was the first time I did both).
I'm trying very hard to wrap my head around this sentence, chefchick. Can you clarify?
I went to Bonnaroo in '04, '06, and am going in '07 I went to the Gathering of the Vibes in '01, '06 and am going in '07 I have been to many festivals, but last year is the first year I went to both Bonnaroo and the Gathering of the Vibes
You know, this discussion reminds me of a New York Times article about Bonnaroo written awhile back - this might give you an idea of what steelersyerface is talking about - tinyurl.com/24hojg
I have always gone out of my way to see anything Dead related but after the Ratdog show in 05 on the main stage I think I may pass on Bobby this year. At these big festivals all Bob does is roll out the hits. I prefer his setlists at small venues. He is a bit more experimental with smaller crowds. Besides I would be very surprised if he does not come out and play a few songs with WSP Sunday night. The 3 songs he played with WSP in 05 were my favorite part of Sunday that year. Fabulous Wang Dang Doodle and Little Red Rooster.

i have ratdog shows i like more than dead shows (not many but a few) bobby weir owns my face when jerry was on............in particular 1977 he was by far and away the gratest musican ever....nobody even came close the problem with jerry was the drug use and the fact that he did 180 shows a year but to me hes the tops....and if you guys think tool or white stripes or whoever will jam better or be a better show go check out rat doggy dog sunday or cheese friday night bob weir in my eyes is WAY more important than phil ever was.....bobby should be main stage late night instead of cheese even and im a huge cheese fan not to mention that the dead heavily influenced 75% of all the bands that ever played bonnaroo and bonnaroo stemmed from the grateful dead scene of camp outs i go to about 20 shows a year and about 7 or 8 are camp outs so its not like im a rookie to shows been to about 40 festivals in my day....
Actually the first and second bonnaroo (1st was with Phil and friends/w Bob Weir and 2003 headlined the dead) took only a couple days to sell out. I want to say the first bonnaroo sold out in 3 days of the start of sales and the second in 18 days. However, 2004 in my opinion with the dead was the greatest bonnaroo ever. On a side note. Hobner, What are you thinking? Ratdogg over Cheese late night? Bobby is great but "RatDogg" is no way gonna be a better show than cheese latenight. Remember- Ratdogg opened for Cheese last summer not the other way around. Although I will admit The Dead should headline over cheese anyday.

they rotated headlines they co headlined that tour dude im sittin here thinkin about john paul jones and how bad it sucks its not saturday night instead of frinday night
so, after reading this thread, I am happy to see bobby again since it has been a while for me....but back in the day during a dead show, (yes, I am old enough to have gone to a fair share of shows) we often went outside for a breather during the bobby songs.
All that said, I am really really hoping for some bobby and the midnights songs..not just same old dead rehash. I have seen and heard enough sugar mag---nfa---???. Don't mean to be mean, but bobby will tend towards the songs that that the audience can sing along with.
I am hoping for black throated wind or looks like rain... any body else have a wish list for bobby?

Actually if you read the link above from the local paper it says that bonnaroo did sell out in 2003. 2003 was the year Neil Young played. And yes I do think 2004 was the best with Dave,Trey, Tim Reynolds, headlining. Along with the Dead and then Trey's 13 piece band. Besides that they had North Mississippi allstars hill country review which was sick. Steve Winwood opened for the dead. David Byrne, Bob Dilyan, Robert Randolph, String Cheese, Primus, The Roots, etc. Uhh Yeah!!!!! My worst was 05 with 2 nights of Panic. Too much Panic for me.

panic is cool...but they arent as good as cheese in my eyes sci is the most mind bending band ive ever heard or seen they change my out look on life and fun i like cheese as much as i like the dead but i have a respect for the dead that is unmatched and if we're going by what would sell more tickets why not have britney spears or nsync im sure they would sell a whole bunch of tickets i wanna hear some rip an axe up

I am just grateful that there aren't any major conflicts for ratdog, I'll be there the whole show. Plus, last year the Flecktones played early in the day on sunday and that was one of my favorite shows last year, i just hope bobby does a little experimentation at least.
it probably won't happen but i wanna hear Rosalee McFall and Deep Elm Blues
