Whats the best way to find your tent during the day time and at night? I was told to tie balloons to the tent and let them go up but it doesnt sound like a good idea to locate it at night.

Find a landmark near your tent. I had two last year. A ginormous teepee that was one row over and that mine was straight back if you entered the section just to the right of the wash station.

It helps to know your pod number and your relevant position to it also, it may not get you exactly to your campsite, but in most cases it will give you an area in which you can find where you're going.
Flags or balloons help in the daytime, led lights at night.

Ah, I had this problem the first year I went to Roo. After one too many of something at the Neil Young show we got turned around coming out of centeroo and wondered about the farm for 3 hours before we found our tent.
The Next year my buddy I constructed a telescoping pole out of PVC pipe and machined a metal bass that you throw under your car tire. We then had a 30 ft. flag pole so we could locate our camp from very far away.
Some years it has even been visible while watching shows at The Other Tent.

Were you in Pod 1? Because we were camped right next to a giant teepee. And it helped me every night. And we were also the first row of cars in the campground so that helped too. All we had to do was walk down the path and find our car.

You have to bring them in. Plus you have to get helium in as well. I just use landmarks. Last year, we just had to walk to the general store and go left by the ice truck. Super easy to find.

I was going to stop at a card store or walmart or something and see if they have those foil birthday balloons since they hold air and usually float better than normal balloons (and that way they'll hopefully be able to hold the lights!)

There are street signs at the corner of each square of tents. Pay attention to them on your way to Centeroo and remember your address. I lived on the corner of 2nd Avenue and another street which name escapes me right now. As long as you can find your way to the corner of the square of tents you're in then just look for your flag or other marker from there.
Bonnaroo places large balloons throughout the campsite. A map is handy during the day, but may not work as well at night. I always find a nearby balloon from my site and note where it is in the sky with respect to where I am standing. This always works well.
By Saturday you should feel comfortable finding your site, just make sure you get your bearings before you run into Centeroo on Thursday.

No, I was over in the area of Camp Hansel. Funny that there was more than one huge teepee.
I was so worried about that my first year. Get a good eye for who your neighbors are as well. Last year we found our way home by looking for the pirate balloon and the NY Giants Flag.
we never found our tent the first night in 07. we walked around all night and never found it. of course you need to know which street/section you are in and pay attention to all the flags and stuff around you and you can find it pretty easily, even at night.
we just go with the landmark deal. Last year...pod 1 3 rows back from the first set of portopottys. good deal.
I think we were practically neighbors
Well hello possible almost neighbor from last year! haha. Its always funny to find out people that are on this site that you were camped next to/close to/with and you had no idea!
In '07 it was a Virginia Tech EZ-up. Walk to it, turn left, go three tent rows and there was home. The next year, we luckily were right against a road. Both times, the light blue pod balloon glowing in the night sky was a way for me to know what direction to head, and if I found the porta-potties, I knew how to weave back to where camp was from there.

I'm a n00b to Roo but I'm bringing the Garmin Handheld. However I'm the only one in our party with one, so we're going to go with baloons w/ sparkelys attached, something random like Passover baloons or something.. Baloons are a part of Passover celebrations right?

i'll never forget getting lost my first roo in 05 after trey. even walked around the general area for 4 hours and still couldn't find it. was completely sober. only found it because the sun had come up. looking back, i probably should've just hung out in centeroo from 3-7am. i've lucked out the past two times, in 07 we were like right on the edge of the main road in the handicapped area that goes past the entrance near the ferris wheel. last year i was pretty much along the same main road, but instead was down farther by the which stage. looking at the maps though, i still can't figure out which camps i was in.
looking at the 2009 map, it appears last year i was in camp biff tannen, about a 5-10 minute walk to the arch. but looking at the roads on this map, i know for sure that the roads weren't shaped that way. i remember that if i left the what stage through the arch, i would walk past tent only, past the back of that tent, and take the first road to my right that pretty much went parallel to the what stage, but looking at the map, that road doesn't exist.
in 07 i was in camp daniel larusso, although it doesn't look like its the handicapped area anymore. literally a 1-2 minute walk to the ferris wheel entrance.
my first year in 05 however, we were in camp rusty griswold, which was about a 30 minute walk to the arch entrance.
for some reason, parts of the campground never seem to look the same as they did in previous years. i'm sure this year will be no different. i'll never get used to how freaking big the campgrounds actually are.
