Use a bike lock to attach your cooler to something else that is large or heavy... makes it a lot more difficult to grab. It will make it less appealing than your neighbor's cooler 10 ft away.
I'm just trying to figure out the odds of having my tent sliced into. Other than an air bed and a cooler, there's nothing in there. Is it likely that my cooler will be raided?
We have one of those huge tents and we keep our dry food and stuff like clothes in there. It has two doors so we use identical lock in which both of us have our own keys. We have had no trouble, but we keep our beer in two huge ass coolers under our table. No problems except we drink all the beer!

We did zip ties, figure it was enough of a deterrent to keep the opportunist at bay but at the same time not advertise that I have something of value in me.

I've always left our coolers and chairs out under my shade tent and never had anything happen to them. If someone needs my stuff that badly that they need to steal, they can have it.

We didn't use a tent lock and never would. That's just advertising that you have something expensive in there. I accidentally left my DSLR in the tent with the door open. It was completely visible from about 10 feet away but no one took it. Prob just got lucky. We left both of our coolers under a table in tent only and no one fucked with them. Using a bike lock will make sure no one steals your cooler but anyone can raid it.
I'd rather someone steal my beer than slash a hole in my tent that I'll be needing for the duration of roo.

DO NOT LOCK YOUR TENT! I had mine locked last year and someone came by and slashed a huge hole in the door just to get my carton of cigs inside and some cash. My two coolers full of beer sitting outside the tent didn't even get touched. It wasn't pleasant trying to sleep saturday and sunday night with nothing to block the moisture and bugs due to the hole.

From what I've heard, your cooler is the most popular target among thieves, especially wooks with no money for beer. I always try to keep my cooler out of sight if possible, but we've never had any problems with theft, and there have been times that we've been quite careless with respect to leaving s.hit lying around.
As for your other stuff, I would either not bring valuables or lock them in the car.
Don't put a lock on your tent. It's as effective as a screen door on a submarine, and it shouts, "I have Leno to steal!!" Instead, worry about this:
Ha! Apparently in 06, dust devils were all over the farm while people were setting up camp. I saw at least 3 tents thrown like that. Stake down your guy wires and weigh down your tents, yo.
Say hey johnny boy, the battle call United we stand, divided we fall Together we are what we can't be alone We came to this country you made it our home
We have a 5 day cooler, and use an ice/ frozen bottle water combo and leave the windows cracked. Haven't had a problem with the coolers in the car. We never leave anything out. Had someone unzip our tent and throw the clothes that we had in there all over the place. I always wondered if the tent would have just been cut had we locked it up. My advice is if you want to better your chances of keeping it, lock it in your car. For everything except your car keys that is!

In the past, we have moved the cooler into a tent just so it's not as visible... also put the good beer at the bottom and the randomness on the top.
I don't lock my tent - nothing of value is in there, it's all in the car. And the only thing we have ever had stolen was a few beers from a cooler. And yeah, if you're that needy of a cold beer, you can have it man.

My thoughts exactly. I certainly don't need all the beer I plan to bring!
i would advise everyone to never place your keys in anything that might be taken. if someone takes your backpack you will be more upset to have lost your keys than whatever is in the backpack in many cases. put the keys by themselves somewhere or on your person and bring an extra car key and give it to your roo buddy.
this thread reminds me of one of my favorite roo stories
about 4am i guy yells out "someone took a crap in my tent' then 30 seconds of silence and then he says "and i just paid someone 5$ to clean it up" then 30 seconds of silence and then he said "and i think its the same guy" then 30 seconds of silence and then he says triumphantly "and IM NOT MAD"

That probably started out with the "cleaner" saying "Hey, I'll bet you $20 I can get that guy to pay me $5 to take a dump in his tent"

Bring a roll of duct tape so if your tent gets slashed, you can fix it. Or as a preventive measure, slash your tent yourself to throw off thieves, then tape it up at night.
