I'm following Bonnaroo on facebook and the last post had comments saying that there's a possibility of increased roadblocks and k-9 along the way. Does anyone have any info if Tenn. has to tell the public in advance when doing roadblocks? I know in Ohio they have to tell the public I think 24 hours in advance. Or does anyone have any info about this increase?
First of all, I can't find on Facebook where you read this. I've lived in TN all my life (Memphis and Knoxville) and the roadblocks that I've encountered happen on predictable nights (St. Patty's Day, New Year's Eve, etc.), and are performed by city police, not Highway Patrol. I never recall being informed ahead of time, but maybe I wasn't looking.
There could be roadblocks, but Interstate roadblocks during summer travel months don't seem likely. DTF agents are stationed along I-40 and I-24 and WILL pull over vehicles with out-of-state plates for no reason (you've been warned). The closer you get to the festival, the less likely you will encounter a road block, as their main concern will be to get cars OFF the freeway and into the festival.
Be careful kids, there has been increased anti-drug activity through most of eastern tn the last couple months. i've probably seen 7 or 8 K9 roadblocks in the last couple months.

just today from cedar bluff to watt rd exits, we saw 4 cars getting tore apart with 2-5 patrol cars at each! Ive never seen anything like that in the Knoxville area and Ive lived here my whole life.
Tennessee does announce their sobriety checkpoints. I found one notice that might affect some coming to Bonnaroo. This notice pertains to commercial vehicles and buses. Here's a link with details. I'll keep looking to see if there are any sobriety checkpoints.
"Cory Jacob Fields yep, investigate back roads, just don't get yourself lost. I think there's actually a nook in 24 where cops set up some kind of road block with canines (or at least that's what some people said last year). Just be careful, happy 'roo 3 hours ago · Flag"
If this is the post on Facebook that got the OP so worried I'm just gonna snap. "I think there's a nook with K9 roadblocks. There either is or there isn't. C'mon dude....
I've been to every Roo since 2006 and yeah, I've seen a couple of cars pulled over on I-24 being searched but they were probably speeding or doing something stupid. It's a law in TN that you have to get into the opposite lane if a cop is on the side of the road. I've heard stories of people getting pulled over for that alone. But all in all, I've never noticed an increased police presence other than cops blocking off exits to control traffic getting into the festival. Drive the speed limit, don't light up anything until you're setting up camp and you'll be fine. Drive safe everyone!
I have been pulled over on my way down. A bunch of squads were on the side of the road. I pulled to the left hand lane as I should. It is the law. Went back to the right after I passed up the squads. A squad raced in front of me and pulled over to the shoulder. The squad behind me pulled me over for failure to yield. It was total BS. We were quizzed heavily and he pointed out his K-9 unit patch (Probably put on that day). I was pulled over for nothing, did not receive a ticket. Still total crap.

Hahahaha, that's my overly-paranoid 'Roo boy and I can almost guarantee he has no idea what he is talking about. We talked to some dumbass girls last year that pulled themselves over when a cop was waving them by and they thought he wanted them to pull over so then he called the K-9 unit.
NO CAUSE FOR ALARM, Inforoo! Go back to your preparations and arguments.

i got pulled over a few years ago. was straight as an arrow and looked the cop right in the eye when we talked. he asked to search the car the the girl who owned the car said yes. he searched us then the car.
if you get pulled over and they ask if they can search you, tell them NO. tell them you have friends waiting on you in manchester and your already running late. DO NOT SMOKE OR DRINK UNTIL YOU GET IN.

Why would you tell them you are going to Bonnaroo or at least strongly suggest it. That could be the cop's BS plea for probable cause. They phrase questions to get you to do just that.
If it's just a traffic violation they have no leg to stand on. Be respectful but bluntly tell them no.
You are absolutely right on the no smoking or drinking. Any contraband, smell, or look of impairment are all grounds for probable cause.

on I-40 around Cookeville, TN, or anywhere in Putnam County, they will pull you over for doing 1mph over the speed limit, and they find a way to illegally search you.

Don't give them a reason to be pulled over and they won't pull you over.
I'm sure all this paranoia and the horror stories in this thread about being pulled over are from people with multiple speeding tickets, parking tickets, and with a general obliviousness to the world around them.
Cruise control is your friend.
Right lane is for chillin the left lane is for passin.
I've been pulled over 9 times in my 8 years of driving, never once been given a ticket. Don't let the passengers in your vehicle speak unless they ask them something, use respect, don't act nervous and most the time you'll be fine. Speed limits are to be followed.

^^^THIS!!!!
Also if you see a cop with lights on get out of the right hand lane or slow way the heck down. They passed a cop protection law a few years ago, and they like to sit behind abandoned cars pretending they already have someone pulled over just waiting for you. Also though this should go without saying DO NOT paint Bonnaroo or bust or something else on the outside of your car, also save the tie dyed window curtains for when you get set up.
