^I agree. Daft Punk isn't nearly as popular as some here seem to believe. Look at 2010's four headliners in terms of platinum records and Top Ten singles. Daft Punk is nowhere close.
How many platinum records and top ten singles do Widespread Panic, Phil Lesh & Friends, and Trey Anastasio have?
None of those three artists can headline Bonnaroo anymore either. It's outgrown them in terms of commercial, mainsteam appeal. Phish--yes. Widespread, Phil, Trey solo--no. Bonnaroo isn't a jamband festival anymore. Look at how crowded it was this year. There's no way they're going to scale back down to catering primarily to the jam crowd--not when they bring in three times as many college girls by booking the likes of KOL and Jay-Z.

NoDepression, you're right that Daft Punk is big in the 17-30 age group, and you're definitely right in that things aren't measured in platinum records anymore, but still: midnight is onto something by pointing out how many people were there this year. I'm underqualified to compare it to past Bonnaroos (this year was my 1st), but I will say that it was staggering how many people were there specifically for Jigga. What if they book, say, Eminem next year as a headliner (as much as I would HATE that)...There would be a lot of college kids/teenagers there specifically for Eminem who don't know a great deal about music they can't hear on a major radio station. They will not hear Daft Punk on a major radio station, and thus will probably not know who Daft Punk is. And Eminem is just an example that can be substituted with anybody who's well-known in a mainstream sense. With how mainstream-friendly the headliners were this year, I think there's a good possibility (unfortunately) that we'll see something similar next year, in which case there WILL be people on the farm who don't know who Daft Punk is.

There were just as many people there last year if not more for Phish and Bruce for what it's worth. Most of the fest was there at Jay it seemed though, like the crowd at Pearl Jam in 08. Everybody is an exaggeration, but I don't think I'm too far off. Daft Punk's live shows have taken on this mythic proportion at this point, that I think if it was their first show back in awhile or even part of that first tour back, it would have the biggest buzz of the fest, sort of like Jay this year.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

I agree with you on this point, and let me reiterate that I would be beyond pumped to see Daft Punk on the lineup next year, but I wonder how many people actually KNOW how legendary Daft Punk's live shows are supposed to be. Again, I think they could/would be a headliner, but I don't think it would draw more, or even as many, people as Jay-Z or Bruce or Radiohead probably did (again, I can't accurately speak to Radiohead or Bruce, since I wasn't there).
I am by no means a Daft Punk fan, but I'd not be opposed to them playing an opposed late What set... I know tons of people would love it, plus that would 'llikely be the only big electronic act at the time. In that scenario you'd have This, That, and Other to cater to the non dance genres.
Saying Fat Mike shouldnt be there cause he is 43 is kind of dumb, when Dexter of the Offspring is older. However, Nofx is terrible live. There is no coherence to their shows. they take 2 to 3 minutes after each song to tell jokes. If you have never seen them it is kind of funny, but after a few times its really frustrating and annoying. PLus Fat Mike is an egotistical pompous prick making it harder to enjoy the show. Only way the show would be good or worth it is if they played the decline, which they probably would since they play it in cities where they have never played before. The Offspring are a much better live band. Really they should book Bad Religion and Rancid (even though recent records arent great they are still awesome live), Flogging Molly would also be very fun.
I've seen NOFX live plenty and i've loved them everytime. I am also horrible at criticizing bands. They can go off the deep end and I'll be there rooting.

There are at least 10 Classic Rock type acts I could think of off the top of my head that I would rather have than the Eagles, but worse headliners could be booked.
Inforoo would be a happier place over the course of the next year if people stopped betting on/ hoping for Bowie, Prince, Zep/Floyd/Talking Heads reunions, now.
More likely/possible to see
Friday and Sunday: two of Radiohead, MMJ, Arcade Fire, RATM, Chili Peppers, Coldplay, Soundgarden, Allmans, TAB, Panic, Further, Phish
Saturday: one of Neil Young, Clapton, The Eagles, The Stones, U2, Aerosmith, Santana and guests
2 Big LN's: Daft Punk, SCI, Eminem, The Killers, someone from my Fri/Sun list

oh, no d...forgot about your response from a couple of pages back regarding the new Dre. Yes, the new Dre's latest song with Jay-Z sucked, however, Dre being the leader in name only with Eminem, Snoop, Nate Dogg, Xzibit, Warren G, D12, Ice Cube, etc. etc. with him as Dre & Friends would be pretty kickass. Combine it with NY & CH early headliner and MMJ as late headliner Saturday night, it's a sweet festival.

I'm skeptical about Arcade Fire being able to command the headliner spot on Friday. Their appeal simply isn't as broad as, say, Kings of Leon's is now. I think they could work in Jay-Z's spot on the What Stage this year following some classic-rock behemeth. Love to see them next year in some capacity.
Unfortunately, after thinking and dreaming of the possibility since this years lineup dropped I have very little hope for Neil Young. I see Neil sticking with this current solo deal for at least one more year with the album dropping in the Winter and two tours of Europe in 2011 Spring and Summer. While it would be fine with me I don't see a solo Neil headlining and for some reason I can't see him playing in a non-headlining spot.
That said I think the big names will probably include 1-2 of McCartney, Waters, U2, The Rolling Stones 1-2 of The White Stripes, Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket 1 of Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Pink,

I'll buy your ticket when all those names are billed together as one act with Dre.
I actually think Lady Gaga would be fun and entertaining. Taylor Swift, on the other hand...that would just plain suck. My 16 year old doesn't even like her, but then again she's a pretty cool 16 year old. And I don't think I could deal with Pink either.
