The Protomen... I suppose it's best to describe them in their own words:
"At the time, we noticed a void in rock and roll. A hole that could only really be filled with grown men and women painting up like robots and playing some fierce and furious rock music based on a 1980's video game. We were fairly certain no one else was going to fill that hole. But, by god, it's filled now. You can thank us later"
Basically, a Megman rock-opera that works out WAY better than it should. The first album is a bit rougher, but still solid. The second album is a blast straight out of the 1980s, probably the first concept album in a while that completely blew me away. It's like Springsteen met up with Meatloaf and watched The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Seriously, Act II: The Father of Death hits EXACTLY what it's aiming for, especially if you read the linear notes along side it. To give a specific suggestion... it's hard, lots of solid songs in there but none that really define the album as a whole. I'd go with "Light Up The Night", "The Hounds", "The Good Doctor" or "Breaking Out", but definitely read the story going along side it if you plan on listening to the album as a whole
And yes, there are stage theatrics. They give epic speeches about joining them in the battle, put on their helmets every few songs, and stay in character for the most part.
My wife did the photography for their show the other night, really great guys. They're actually doing a Queen "cover" set next month in Nashville. Mostly Queen, but a good bit of their own
Here's a shot of a helmet at the bar the other night
how 'bout a cheer for all those bad girls. . and those boys that play that rock and roll.. They love it, like you love Jesus ..it does the same thing to their souls...
The snake the cross the crown would be awesome. Also, the tallest man on earth is amazing. My number one lower tier act or Roo '10 is the Rumpke Mountain Boys. They're an amazing bluegrass band from Cincinatti. They do a ton of Dead covers and even some Pink Floyd and Tom Waits. They will blow your mind... Also the Dirty Grindstones would be a good choice but they might be too small yet: www.myspace.com/thedirtygrindstones

Totally not in alphabetical order...
Alberta Cross - GREAT live band... great energy but melodic as well. At the Drive-In - This would probably be a bigger text bill, but it would be awesome. The Bakerton Group - A comeback would be great... best small stage act i've seen at a festival Beirut - I think they've played before, they should come back. Black Mountain - Hippy Metalheads, PERFECT. Brotha Ali - intelligent hip-hop A Decent Animal - A little known band that has a creepier version of Band of Horses going on. Dredg - They have a new album out in March and they've ignored the farm for too long. East of the Wall - Instrumental Metal... really great energy. Foxy Shazam - Just flat out fun. If these trees could talk - Progressive instrumental metal... would be a good tent show. Iron and Wine - huge beard and tasty melodies Judgement Day - Three piece string metal band, they're flippin awesome. Check em out. The Life and Times - Just a space rock band, but would be sweet to see em. Minus the Bear - Because i haven't seen them at the farm. Mogwai - Because i like them. Oceansize - They are loud, and people like them. Omar Rodriguez-Lopez - His new album is really good and his gf has an amazing voice Pelican - Awesome metal instrumental... been around a long time. Plants and Animals - They're recent album is not so good, but theyre first is amazing. Portugal the man - because they DESTROYED two years ago.

Morning Teleportation. I saw them open for Flaming lips last weekend and they blew me away. Really great performance. I found out they played Cafe Where last year. Their first LP comes out in a few months, and I really think they need a Thursday tent spot.
They are, we practically have a confirmation already.
How? Where?
While coachellaleaks.com is not a very credible site, Alex from COS said they got their confirmation straight from the band that they will be at Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. I emailed PtM a few weeks back and Zach emailed me back and said "they can't comment until the lineup is released, but they will be around."
Country musicians: Jamey Johnson needs to come back. Ryan Bingham needs to be there too.
While I have never been much a fan of (especially) modern country, I got into Jamey Johnson in preparation fer his set at 'Roo this past summer. Unfortunately I missed it (can't recall why, prolly just the horrible heat this year) so I support his return.
