These guys are one of the best live shows I've ever seen. Among the hard rock/metal bands I think they're one of the best fits for bonnaroo. They were pioneers of the whole nu metal thing, yet they really set themselves apart from all the disposable garbage that resulted from the rise of the genre. Their music is really unique. It ranges from really chill to exploding with energy. They have alot of great trippy atmospheric stuff I think alot of the Roo crowd would enjoy (See white pony era stuff). And alot of heavy stuff to really get the crowd going (See adrenaline). They have a new album, they're currently touring, and if luck will have it they'll be touring next summer and play a set at bonnaroo.
Oh, and Tool in 08 has been and will probably always be the best live show I've ever seen. I've seen them on 3 other occasions with the same setup but when they rocked the What stage it was unbelievable and then put Tom Morello in the middle with the solos.....OMG
i'll admit that when i was a preteen, 12 to 13 years old, i was entranced by the nu-metal scene. it was my transition from coming home from school and watching nickelodeon and cartoon network to coming home and watching mtv. i remember owning cds to shitttty bands like korn, limp bizkit, linking park. but no band ever sucked me in as much as deftones.
got older and started getting into other stuff, threw away all my other nu-metal albums but always kept my deftones cds around. it was kinda like the scene in Toy Story 3 where Andy has to decide which toys he wants to throw away and which he wants to put up in the attic as keepsakes.
even though i didn't go to bonnaroo this year, i would without a doubt be at bonnaroo in 2011 if deftones were on the bill. even if they were latenight, i'd have no problem with any conflict. i'd be there no question about it no matter who else was playing at the same time. i feel like i owe it to myself, and to them. they were my favorite band for like 3 years.
i havnt seen the deftones since 96 so this fall in atl will be an experience....seeing them added to roo late night or not, like laggy said is long over due... if given a late night spot or even 11:30 friday morning i would most definatly be there.

whats the best deftones album? i used to be kind of into them but never really had any of their Leno
my personal favorite is their self-titled album. it's very different than the others, very raw. most other deftones' fans would disagree with me though.
i'd say your best bet is Around the Fur or White Pony.

So difficult to say... I would definitely suggest one of their first 3.. Back in my highschool headbanger days I would have suggested Adrenaline, which is overall their heaviest work. A while later my favorite album became White Pony. This album is a departure from their initial sound. Most of the songs are much more chill, mesmerizing, and atmospheric. These days the album with the best replay value for me is Around the Fur. It's a good middle ground, with some really cool soft-into-loud dynamics going on. And to me it's the album that really started to best showcase Chino's unusual vocal styling.
I would definitely suggest one of those 3, depending on what you're most into. Around the Fur would probably be the best to start with.
Self titled has some really really great songs, but overall as an album I don't think it was as strong as their first 3 albums IMO.
I agree with Around the Fur, but White Pony is also a great album. I personally liked Saturday Night Wrist a lot but that is a very different sounding album.

Diamond Eyes is one of my favorite albums to come out this year. I agree with you man. Such pure emotion. Also...I have yet to see Deftones live....even though I have been a fan for years.
yes yes yes this this this. I've mentioned this for a couple years but i see it takes a new thread and some sweet video action to get the bandwagon rolling. I remember the last day of my first bonnaroo ('08) when this official looking fellow approached me to take a survey. He asked me all sorts of questions but when he asked what bands I'd like to see there i talked his ear of about deftones for at least ten minutes, as if he alone were responsible for making this happen. Also I have flown my Deftones flag at my campsite every year (look for me!) I got lucky enough to see them in Nashville a few years ago and I'll be going to Atlanta to catch the blackdiamondskye tour in October. Cheers Laggy for representing def love. this thread = the truth

I'm with summerteeth214 on this one. Never understood the love of Deftones music. I've heard I think four songs I can enjoy (two bein' covers at that) and the rest make me want to stick an electric drill into my ear. While I would hate the Deftones at 'Roo, if they are booked I know I'll have at least one band I won't be seein'. If they are there, hopefully y'all will enjoy 'em!

I can actually understand. I really did not enjoy deftones at first. It put a bad taste in my mouth. But, luckily for me, I had a friend who would listen to them repeatedly, relentlessly. I began to enjoy them a little more with each listen. At first "eh I guess they're not toooo bad". Soon I was singing the lyrics. Then I was asking to burn their CDs. Then they made their way into my top favorite bands. For many, they can be an acquired taste. Give them a chance.
