I saw them in March of last year in Nashville. It was during the part of the tour where Howard was out and Phil from ATR was singing. I took my brothers (15 and 13 at the time). I ended up having to play bodyguard for my little brother for the entirety of the show (Killswitch is his favorite band). I spent most of the show pushing forwards through the crowd and we made it to the front just in time for them to encore with Holy Diver. After the show we relocated the other brother and it turns out he got messed up in the pit and had a quacking huge shiner over his eye. Besides GWAR, that was probably the most intense show I have been to. My arms hurt for like a week afterwards.
Yeah Killswitch is pretty raw live. I saw them at ozzefest some years ago at Alpine Valley. They were on the second stage so the pit area wasn't super packed because there weren't any barriers or anything. The craziest I've been to is Slipknot for sure. I was like, 10 feet from the front and literally was in a coffin stance the entire show. My arms were just crossed on my chest and like half the time my feet weren't even touching the floor. Slipknot just knows how to do a live show, I don't care what anyone says about them. I barely listen to them on cd anymore, but if the chance came up to see them live I probably would.
Not trying to be realistic but these are some good options:
System of a Down Rage Against The Machine Shadows Fall Mastodon Horse the Band Slayer Opeth Dillinger Escape Plan Killswitch Engage Dream Theater Everytime I Die 3 Inches of Blood Black Label Society Alice In Chains (I consider them a metal band... Grunge is not a genre) Lacuna Coil CKY
well coachella completely stayed away from metal this year. usually they have a few token metal bands. i hope bonnaroo still has the 4-5 that they have been getting.

I agree, a couple good metal sets just get the energy flowing.
If anyone cares, I think the answer to Clue #3 is Kylesa... which someone had already confirmed to be at Roo, but it fits with the clue really well.
Still need help with Clue #1. Bishop, Juggs, laggy... anyone want to help?
i don't think kylesa is big enough to have a clue dedicated to them.
Perhaps not but not all of the clues are for larger bands. From reading online, they are an up-and-coming band. The logic fits and something we've guessed in the last few hours is correct, according to Gary.

hmm, i dunno. i quit paying attention to the clues thread. was the clue announced after it was leaked that kylesa is playing? maybe they are just going to give us the ones we already know.
Our poster on the boards (Sanjuro) posted the Kylesa "confirmation" on Jan. 16. He had talked to the band the night before, presumably Jan. 15. We received clue 3 on Jan. 17.

sounds like that's it. i posted a theory about deftones in the clue #1 thread. also think mastodon could be it.

I've been doing some Mastadon research. I'm also thinking Opeth for #1.

just for the non metal bands, how big is Opeth? I'm looking at some lists and they have them up there with Tool and I've never heard of Opeth until this forum.

Opeth's 2008 album Watershed opened the ears of lots of people on this side of the pond. As far as Scandinavian metal goes, they rule the roost in the US and Europe. It ain't a huge market but it's become more socially acceptable to be a metalhead again in the last few years.

one of the fake posters that has been making it's rounds lists the following metal bands:
Mastodon The Sword Iron Age Kylesa Torche
i would maybe rather see Mastodon and The Sword swapped out with some first timers like Neurosis, Opeth or Boris. will still be cool if they go with something close to this though...

I know a lot of people that would flip their shit if Opeth played the farm. That would be an EXTREMELY unique get as I don't think they have played any American festivals before.
I don't know if Dax Riggs would count as metal anymore, but he would make an excellent addition
I doubt anyone could really classify him as metal anymore. Hell, he doesn't classify himself as metal, but I'm so with you. I hope for Dax to return to the farm every year.
