Heyo. I finally took the plunge and started a blog. It will house a whole bunch of things. Everything from music and film to food and travel. As of right now I just have some of my photos up (I'm using it for that as well), and my first record review! Anyway, check it out and I'd love some feedback.

Oh! Do you guys think I should use the album artwork as a link to a download of the album? I don't know what the restrictions are as far as getting caught doing something like that.. I really like the layout of tumblr and don't want to get banned or anything.

As far as linking to downloads of albums, that stuff is pretty tricky, so I don't know for sure. If I were you, I would probably not link them to downloads just to be safe. Plus, to me, it makes your blog seem a bit more legit if you don't link to downloads of the album. If you look at the most successful/legit blogs, they usually post songs on their blog but they dont link to album downloads.
Plus, the artist/label could always threaten legal action or whatever against you or tumblr, which might threaten your account. So, I wouldn't do it.
Cool I downloaded it. I'm working on the Broemel and then homework for the remainder of the evening, but I'll definitely listen to the Boombox a few times over the next couple of days and get a review up by the end of the weekend.

Zapp.........what kind of camera(s) do you use? And do they take video at all?
I'm trying to find good SLR-type camera that gets good video...like high quality stuff. But i'm clueless and researching. Just curious to what you have.
I have the Canon Rebel XSi 450d. Right now I'm using a 50 mm fixed zoom lens but I'm working on saving for a nice zoom lens and a wide angle lens as well. No video option, but I really couldn't be happier with it. I got it in April and use it every day. It's amazing how clear the SLR is compared to a point-and-shoot. I want to live inside the optical lens so everything looks as good as it does through the camera.

The Walkmen are back. They technically never went anywhere, lodged deep in our heart’s memory, if such a thing even exists. They saunter out of said memory pocket of our hearts, yawn, stretch, pick up their instruments, and rip right into Lisbon, without even offering us breakfast.
Lisbon opens with the familiar jangle of Paul Maroon’s guitar on top of the powerful drumming Matt Barrick pounding a simple, yet thick back-beat, in “Juveniles”. Singer Hamilton Leithauser enters with his raspy howl, proclaiming “You’re someone else tomorrow night, doesn’t matter to me/Cause as the sun dies into the hills, you’ve got all I need.” The hook is huge, a common recurrence on Lisbon, these songs are catchy without yielding any of the raw sound and emotion that we’ve come to expect from The Walkmen. “Angela Surf City” is no exception to this rule, a bouncy tune with a simple, grounded sound which elevates into the clouds when the chorus hits.
“Stranded” sounds like a battlefield hymnal with trumpets blaring into the rain, while Leithauser acknowledges the storm falling around them: “Oh why does the rain fall so cold when I’m stranded and starry-eyed?” Almost as if the battle against the storm has been won, comes “Victory”, a celebration of all sorts. The verses can barely contain the outburst of joy the chorus will bring, brimming with energy until it all explodes into proclamations of victory, both musically and lyrically. On “Woe Is Me”, The Walkmen channel surf rock vibes while keeping it distinctly their own sound. “Torch Song” slows the pace, yet has an incredible level of energy, sure to work a club into a frenzy. The album closes with “Lisbon”, a loose, sauntering end to a brilliant album.
The Walkmen have always made everything sound so effortless. The melodies come to them as if whispered in their ears by some ethereal American beings, spirits who can write songs we know and love yet are hearing for the first time. It is with this gift that they bring us Lisbon. Always familiar, always fresh. Most importantly, always refreshing.
Haha, I loved this review. AND, you beat Pitchfork to the punch!!! You're gonna be a star blogger before we know it, Zapp. Can't tell yet if that is a good thing or bad thing.
Haha you know it. I'm searching out a copy of that new Sharon Van Etten to review, but not having much luck. Possibly closer to the day of release. I also decided I'm going to do a monthly mixtape for the blog, not only new music that's being released, but also songs that really got me through that particular month. It's looking good so far, halfway through the month and halfway through 80 minutes worth of music. I'm pretty excited about that idea, it will be a fun way to make album art and be creative.
Edit: D'oh, "Epic" is on iTunes. I'm taking your word for this one Karosko, and buying it.

I splurged for the lifessweetbreath.com domain today. I was told by Caribou's people that they "don't deal with blogs on tumblr" so I guess this is a way to disguise it, make it look more official. I am still waiting to get my answers back from The Octopus Project and Neon Indian, but I have a phone interview with (I believe) Jason Hann of EOTO/String Cheese Incident at 5 Eastern. I'm sure I'll get on transcribing it once Always Sunny is over, and I'll try to get the interview up tonight. I appreciate all the support I'm getting from you beautiful Inforooers. Much love.

That's kinda strange to me that Caribou's people would be that picky about which blogs they will "deal with." Hard to imagine Dan Snaith being anything but a really laid-back guy. Guess stuff like that always gets weird when labels get involved.
Congrats, though, Jeff...sounds like your little blog is rising pretty quick; it's the Jahvid Best of blogs.

Thanks laggy. Unfortunately we were never able to work out a phone interview so he took the time to answer by e-mail. I love how he actually gave a specific piece of visual art, and one which seems to relate so much to what EOTO does. I haven't been able to find the "77 Million Paintings" software he's talking about, but it sounds really cool.
